It would be truly terrible if anyone were to consider it. We need your good cheer around the school. Although perhaps you're right and it might be better for all involved if you provided that cheer while not, technically, being a cheerleader.

Oh no, I wouldn't phrase it like that. In a way, texting abbreviations are real words too. Our language continues to evolve as we find different ways to use it, and yes, one of those ways is acronyms for speed in texting or typing, but these acronyms take on their own proper semantic meanings as well. The things you say are real words... like communicating in your own English dialect.
