What: Breaking rules for the sake of breaking rules.

It was cold and damp out, even for an October night, and on any other one Clem probably wouldn't have bothered to leave her cabin at all.

But while she wasn't exactly angry about all the new campground rules the prefects had decided on, she was feeling a little cooped up and restless. Taking a walk around the grounds after-hours seemed like a suitable remedy to both, so she'd tagged along with Veronica on a whim. Heading to the docks hadn't been a particularly inspired idea, though, as she was now realizing. The light from the moon was dim, the wind off the lake was nippy, and they had to be quiet to avoid rousing the teachers.

Still, the upside was that she could use Vee as a sounding board for her complaints.

"Having someone tell you when you're allowed to break the rules just sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?" she said, following up a long string of other criticisms. She'd spent the walk over picking up little rocks suitable to skipping, and lobbed a third one out over the lake as she waited for Vee to respond. Like her previous two attempts, it only managed to skip once before sinking into the dark water, and she let out an irritated huff at the failure.
