Who: Clementine Decourt, Veronica Powers, & surprise guest
When: Monday night, ~10:30pm
Where: Near the docks.
What: Breaking rules for the sake of breaking rules.
Warnings: In-progress but none so far

It was cold and damp out, even for an October night, and on any other one Clem probably wouldn't have bothered to leave her cabin at all.

But while she wasn't exactly angry about all the new campground rules the prefects had decided on, she was feeling a little cooped up and restless. Taking a walk around the grounds after-hours seemed like a suitable remedy to both, so she'd tagged along with Veronica on a whim. Heading to the docks hadn't been a particularly inspired idea, though, as she was now realizing. The light from the moon was dim, the wind off the lake was nippy, and they had to be quiet to avoid rousing the teachers.

Still, the upside was that she could use Vee as a sounding board for her complaints.

"Having someone tell you when you're allowed to break the rules just sort of takes the fun out of it, doesn't it?" she said, following up a long string of other criticisms. She'd spent the walk over picking up little rocks suitable to skipping, and lobbed a third one out over the lake as she waited for Vee to respond. Like her previous two attempts, it only managed to skip once before sinking into the dark water, and she let out an irritated huff at the failure.

Vee wasn't typically one to break the rules. She didn't consider herself a goody-goody (though many would likely argue that), but she certainly didn't go out of her way to do things that weren't allowed. Not usually, at least. Hearing about the new rules the prefects had decided on kind of threw a wrench in her typical behavior. Vee wasn't a huge partier, at least not in the sense where she needed those substances that were banned, but having people be told they couldn't use them on their own camp grounds was a bit shocking. There had always been a sort of live and let live mentality when it came to the separate camps and the rules on each, and the system worked.

Or so she thought.

Now that it seemed they were being told what to do in the place where they lived, well, Vee felt a sudden urge to be a little rebellious. She decided a walk would do her good, curfew be damned, and was pleased when Clem decided to join her. While she didn't want the other girl to get in trouble, it was nice to have company. A feeling she began to experience more and more as they situated themselves on the docks by the lake. There was a slight fog hanging over the water, making everything look eerie in the dim light of the moon. Vee shivered as a brisk wind kissed her skin, making it seem like the hoodie she wore wasn't even there. It was dead silent, as to be expected, which only added to the overall uneasiness.

At least Clem's voice and presence was there to anchor her.

"It just," she started after her friend finished, though she paused and grasped for words. "It just seems so extreme. So sudden," she finished, her words musing as reached over and grabbed one of Clem's rocks. Giving it a toss, she sighed. "I wonder what prompted it, is all."
