VERITASERUM LESSONS

In Potions, the juniors and sophomores are being introduced to Veritaserum. Mr. Elmasry allows a few students from both years to volunteer to try it and experience the effects first hand, but warns them not to do it if they aren’t prepared for the consequences. He also advises that they not write in their journals before it’s worn off. The effects of this batch will last three hours. Be careful, it only takes ten seconds to do real damage!

As per the Harry Potter wiki: "Veritaserum is a powerful truth serum. The potion effectively forces the drinker to answer any questions put to them truthfully, though there are certain methods of resistance." The primary method of resistance is Occlumency, so unless that's something your character excels at, you're SOL. AFAIK, there's no "truth-blurting" effect to this potion, so you'll only have to divulge information if someone asks for it specifically.

WHO'S AFFECTED

• Sophomores Sebastian LaCroix, Jade Otterwell, Solomon Webb and [OPEN] volunteer to take the potion.


• Juniors Avery Davenport, Reece Downing, Rosemary Stoker, Veronica Powers and Kurt Wolfhart volunteer to take the potion.


• Passerby Diego Morales also gets roped into taking the potion, somehow.

SOPHOMORE POTIONS LESSON

During class and under Elmasry's watchful eye, Charlotte asks the potion takers a series of rather innocuous questions like, "Who's your favorite teacher?", "What do you want to do when you graduate?", and "Which school clubs do you think should be added next year?"

Jade Makes Choices

When Jade hears this lesson through probably the door, she's immediately prompted to intervene and step in, volunteering to take the potion. Look who's an Azurcrest, after all. She's showing off. For no one in particular, but it seems like a necessary obstacle to climb over. Can Veritaserum outsmart Jade Otterwell? NO IT CANNOT.

Yes it can. She will perhaps live to regret this.

Sebastien Lacroix has some regrets. And this - Yeah, this is definitely going to be one of them.

Calvin

You could not pay Calvin to do this. He cringes as people actually volunteer. Although he's in no danger of being called on, he still sinks in his chair like he's concerned he might be.

Calvin will be alternately too brusque or too protective for this. He's a bull in an emotional china shop.

Ariadne

Ari hates this. What the hell? Why is this happening? Why do students at this school keep getting dosed with highly controlled potions? At least this is happening during class hours, she supposes.

She sits a row further back from the front of the class than she normally does. She's not even going to risk inhaling truth serum fumes. The fact that Jade volunteers to take it is like, unfathomable to her.

Cole

Normally, this wouldn't seem like a big deal to Cole. But lately...no. No, he doesn't want to do this. He turns his head and looks out the window while Mr. Elmasry waits for volunteers.

Aiden

Aiden thinks y'all are all crazy for volunteering. Why would anyone subject themselves to that. He crosses his arms in his seat, as though that could somehow ward off the sheer stupidity of a Veritaserum potion or make him somehow invulnerable to it.

He's safe because he's not volunteering. But he maybe internally winces at every question thrown at those who did. It's all highly unpleasant for him.

JUNIOR POTIONS LESSON

Why did Reece think this was a good idea? Well, it's not like he's harboring any deep dark secrets or anything. He'll do his best to draw attention away from his fellow volunteers if they seem to be getting uncomfortable with the situation.

Avery!

Avery has almost identical thoughts to Reece. She did not think this one through. She hops up to the front of the class and takes the potion, waiting for something dramatic to happen. Apparently nothing does until someone asks you a question. She doesn't really feel all that different but something is definitely different?

Casper

Casper is seriously questioning the judgment of anyone that would agree to something like this but he doesn't intend to take advantage of it. Leave him alone and he'll leave you alone, you idiots. If he sees anyone getting vicious toward those that took the potion, though, he may play prefect and jump in.

Rosy

Nobody has ever enjoyed a game of It's None of Your Business, Don't Touch Me more than Rosemary Stoker, so what the fuck is she doing? Rosy is quietly panicking over here, she will be of no help to anyone else.

Kurt!

Kurt was naught but a passerby. Kurt was going to go see Lacey. Kurt was asked by a very nice teacher if he wanted to volunteer, and Kurt couldn't find it in himself to say 'no.'

He tries to follow a policy of unwavering honesty in his regular life, so this can't be THAT different, right?

Vee almost immediately regrets volunteering. She's not a dishonest person, but she does keep a lot to herself in the hope of not offending anyone or seeming too sensitive or anything else. But oh well, no turning back now!

ADDY does not take this potion

Addy is here for all your intervention needs. She knows how powerful Vertiaserum is. She doesn't need that proven to her. She'll be on the lookout through class and the rest of the day for people abusing this. If she sees it, she's stopping it, and giving Addy-grade lectures on respecting the powers of potions.

Why is she going around school letting people ask her anything? Because she's an idiot, has things to do, and does not want to hide in her room for three hours or be babysat. Also, she's an idiot. Hit her up for some #awkwardlyhonestconversation.

Reece doesn't have DADA, and spends second period hanging out in the Atrium. You might notice he's unusually frank today, but unless things get awkward he's not going to tell anyone that he's under the effects of Veritaserum if they don't already know. No point in making himself an unnecessary target!

In Magizoology, he sure is glad the squonk lesson is over.

During Lunch, it's probably common knowledge around the school what's going on. Do your worst to him before the potion wears off.

Charlotte & Open, after class (Open to all years)

After class, Charlotte stalks after [Veritaserum'd Volunteer - Sophomore] for a few paces until they're away from the classroom before she starts hounding them with more personal questions such as, "Who do you have a crush on?"

For the rest of the day, she'll go up to various people she knows who have taken Veritaserum to ask them embarrassing questions. Let me know if you want her to figure out your character is affected!

Vee and Open to anyone!

Instead of hiding in her room, Vee is out and about. She has classes and homework to do, people to see, practices to run, etc. She probably shouldn't be out, or repeating drunk entry-like offense in her journal, but alas.

• Kurt hurries off to the stables as soon as the juniors' Potions class concludes. Helping Mr. Covington care for the horses is his normal Monday morning ritual and nothing about his behaviour seems amiss after a few minutes spent brushin' a good ol' Granian.


• Then he's off to Magizoology! Though attentive, he's reluctant to both ask and answer questions in class.


• Okay, fine, he glues himself to Kenzie's side for lunch. Asking him questions right now... probably won't get you very far. She has claws nails.

Rosy & Not Talking to Anyone

Rosy basically ran from Potions to DADA, where she glued herself to Sy's side. He'd better not be even a second late. He'd better have the weird twin sense to be fucking early.

She's even following him to Magizoology today to complain about the smell and dirt.
