SCHOOL TRIP: Seniors

Ah, Paris. The city of love. This weekend it will be host to Gooseberry's senior class as part of their school trip. The weather's a little rainy, but not cold. The clouds and afternoon drizzles add a bit to the ambience.

Students are given packets that contain their hotel room key, museum pass, allowance, a map of the city and its Floo network, the itinerary, and a basic list of rules. For the most part, it looks like they'll have a lot of freedom, so long as they don't break any rules. "We want you to explore the city as independent young adults," says Mr. Calderon-Boot. "We're trusting you, so don't let us down."

HOW THIS WORKS

• The senior class is going to Paris, France! They'll be staying at the Hotel Les Theatres. Rooms can either have two twin beds, two queen sized beds, or one queen sized bed.


• Staff presence: Mr. Calderon-Boot, Mr. Merrill, Ms. Lilywhite


• Students will have to go through international magical customs, so they can't have any contraband in their bags, such as weapons or drugs. They will be travelling via the Floo network to the Parisian Magical Transportation & Travel Station, after which they'll be taken to their hotel.


• For the two non-travel days, in the morning there will be a set school activity that's mandatory, and in the evenings students can do whatever they want to.
  • Friday: Palace of Versailles, the Catacombs. Students leave at 9:00 AM, and return to the hotel at 3:00 PM
  
  
  • Saturday: Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, Notre Dame. Students leave to see the city at 9:00 AM, and return to the hotel at 3:00 PM
• Students are given an allowance of €40 (~$50) per day for food and leisure. They have student passes to get into museums, gardens, etc. with no charge, and the hotel has a free continental breakfast. Any room charges will come out of your character's allowance. They may spend their own personal money however they please.


• The staff are aware that many of the seniors are of legal drinking age in France. They simply ask students not to overdo it, and to contact a staff member if they ever get stranded or drink too much. They won't get in trouble.


• Curfew is 12:00 AM. Teachers will come through to make sure everyone is in their rooms. Reid Wainwright has a curfew of 10:00 PM as a consequence of skipping Cotillion.


• ALTHOUGH THIS IS BEING POSTED ON 11/22, STUDENTS WILL NOT ACTUALLY BE LEAVING UNTIL THE MORNING OF 11/23!

It's fairly late by the time they've arrived in Paris and settled into the Hotel Les Theatres but that doesn't bother Casper much. He isn't particularly interested in hitting the tourist traps (and it sounds like the school schedule has that covered for them anyway) and he doesn't mind the idea of wandering through a dark, unfamiliar city. It actually sounds pretty fucking great. And he can be back well before curfew.

So, after dropping off his things and grabbing his cell phone and slipping on a leather jacket that will be more than a match for the mild drizzle, he heads for the hotel entrance.

THE HOTEL

TRUTH OR SHOT: Drunk Manicure Edition

It's Saturday night, the night before they're supposed to go back to boring old Utah, and these classy lassies need to get rid of some of this fancy French alcohol they've managed to accumulate. Riley dumps her frankly ridiculous nail polish collection on the floor and they decide to combine drunk manicures with a rousing game of Truth or Shot, in which the rules will be forgotten in almost seconds.

THE SCENE OF THE CRIME: Room 508, the home base of the fanciest females in France.
THE CULPRITS: Riley, Addy, Nia, Ursula, and anyone else they invited to join the fun.
THE RULES: Answer the question or take a shot and paint a nail with one of Riley's ridiculous bottles of nail polish. The idea is that you can only take up to ten shots and you need to be very strategic with the questions you want to skip. The reality is that you're going to get ten shots in and either greatly regret your choices, or just ask Riley to use "Daddy's Credit Card" to paint a mustache on your nail.

Now get to drinking and embarrassing yourselves, ladies!!

Dominic and open

Dominic is having a great time the entire trip. He speaks French at every opportunity he gets, and probably does to several characters until his brain switches back and he remembers who he's talking to. Those who he ends up interpreting for will realise just how fast he is when he talks in his native tongue, but he's not bitching about you to the locals... honest!

Each night in his hotel room, he's thankful that he has a sweet deal. He knows that the two girls get on well, and he's good friends with Olivia and has no problem with Avery, so he'll be more than happy to chat and hang out.

He'll pick your brain about what souvenir to pick out for Ree, though!

Sofia + Open

Sofia sat outside the hotel with a cigarette hanging from her mouth. The city was beautiful and the shopping was phenomenal, but the spark it had didn't quite pull her in like it did others. Maybe it was because she wasn't into love and romance, or maybe she was just a scrooge. It was good to be away from the boring woods in Utah either way.

Night Two: A Post-Party Pickup

Vacation is strange. Beautiful, certainly, but ultimately still strange. It isn't even halfway through and Roxie already feels like the roof hangs just a bit too low - like she's sitting much too idly and doesn't quite know what to do with the rest of her energy. But she does know, with relative certainty, that pacing along the length of the balcony's railing more than likely isn't it.

So the slow progress of words makes her grin, small and warm and fond, down at the paper. She's up and walking toward the door before she even has his reply, journal left neatly by the door to her hotel room after she scribbles one last line into it and still pulling the oversized sweatshirt over her head when she walks out.

Her steps are quiet, even and measured and confident until she comes to a stop in front of Room 510. She bounces up an onto her toes, then back down and flat-footed, her fingers curled into a hesitant fist. Does she knock? Would it be rude to interrupt or is it expected? Why doesn't she know appropriate social cues?

TRASH PARIS (Riley, Addy, Nia, Ursula)

"I have nail polish on my eeeyes," Riley announces to the group, though she's honestly not sure who's awake, alive, and hasn't wandered off to join the French circus at this point. "Because I'm a mothafuckin' artist, I wanna paint your eyes."

She rolls over and just paws at the person closest to her.

DAY TWO: PALACE OF VERSAILLES, THE CATACOMBS

The Lost Smoochers (Riley, Casey, Cameron)

"The hotel is, like... that way, right?" Riley wrinkles her nose, pointing in just some vague direction. Please do not listen to Riley, she honestly has no clue where they are, she's sloshed on wine and has spent the last five minutes of their wandering staring at herself on her blinged out phone. Her hair looks tousled and it's hot, and that's literally everything she knows right now.

"I mean, I'm sure we can find some cuties to put us up for the night if we get stupid lost, it's not the end of the world." Again, do not listen to Riley.

DAY TWO: Kenzie & Uly

This whole narrative should feel a lot more natural to her than it does. She's had a year of practice being someone's girlfriend, she's dressed perfectly, and she's in Paris. For their earlier date, she chose a cafe for its idyllic looks first and its menu second. It had boasted wrought iron tables and chairs arranged down a tiny street, absolutely picturesque. Any girl or boy would have been jealous to sit across from Ulysses down that covered alley.

And then she'd insisted on going to Père Lachaise Cemetery. "So many great artists to pay homage to!" she'd pointed out. Her enthusiasm was and is genuine. Wilde, Proust, Chopin, Édith Piaf... the list goes on. Kenzie has a bouquet cradled in one arm so they can hand out flowers to their favorite deceased geniuses.

Like the cafe, the cemetary looks good enough to be a painting. Walking side-by-side with Ulysses, Mackenzie lightly, playfully swings their clasped hands. She's been waiting to tell a story, and needed to be here to do it. "Have you ever heard of Victor Noir?"

DAY TWO: Jaime & Lachlan

After spending much of the afternoon in the catacombs beneath Paris, an endeavor which had seemed more morbid than actually interesting in his opinion since the history behind the ossuary is relatively simple, Lachlan is more than ready to do something fun! He'd considered going to a museum or to a garden to try his luck at spotting some of the local birds, but then he'd remembered Jaime's ice skating situation and asked the other boy and some of their classmates to accompany him to Patinoire Sonja Henie for a little practice instead.

Now, sitting beside the other boy and lacing up his rented skates, he smiles. "Dinnae worry, mate. You'll probably be a natural; pick it up in no time at all." It's a stupid thing to say. Jaime isn't the type to worry about things like this. He is the type to worry about things like this. But oh well. Laces neatly and securely tied, he stands up and balances easily on the blades and looks at his roommate.

DAY THREE: EIFFEL TOWER, THE LOUVRE, NOTRE DAME

NIGHT THREE: Ennis and Jaime Partayyyyy

Being responsible at Gooseberry has been an uphill battle for Jaime, so now that he has a chance to let loose he's definitely taking advantage. The club he's dragged Ennis to has been just what he needed - loud music, lots of dancing, and lots of people. Oh, and alcohol. The last two drinks he's had haven't worn off just yet, but he's pulled the Ribbonfin along with him back to the bar anyway. It's a little quieter here, and Jaime has won them a pair of seats along the edge of the bar top with a few winning smiles and a bit of shouldering through.

"Ennis!!" He sounds excited, as though he's just seeing the other boy for the first time that night despite the fact that they've been together the whole evening. "Are you having fun??"

MORNING: Parisian Cafe (Open All)

Nia is wearing sunglasses for two reasons:

1. It looks hip.
2. The dark circles under her eyes have an event horizon.

She nurses a large cup of white coffee, fingers wrapped tight around the mug for warmth, and occasionally glances at the croissant in front of her. Oh, croissant. You will be eaten. Eventually. Your fate is inevitable. As soon as Nia works up the strength to eat you.

Instead she stares out at the street and watches people wander by. It's very French - she's like 80% sure it's very French. Sitting in a Parisian Cafe with a coffee and a croissant, people watching. It'd be perfect if she didn't also feel like shit.

"Three days and I haven't scored a single French girlfriend or boyfriend," she jokingly laments to the people at her table.

NIGHT THREE: Yancey & Lachlan

Lachlan still isn't entirely certain why Ennis had been so keen to switch rooms for the night but he didn't mind and Yancey didn't mind and moving a few belongings from Room 515 to Room 514 hadn't been much of a hassle so...here he is. And, after spending the evening with the Ribbonfin boy wandering the Parisian streets and throwing back a few drinks at a nearby bar, he's forgotten any small inclinations he might've had to feel awkward about sharing a room.

Well. Mostly. He's got a few too many uncertain feelings and has been too clumsily bold toward Yancey in the past a few too many times to have forgotten completely. Still. He's enjoyed himself tonight and he's content as he sits on Ennis' bed, sipping from a bottle of water and flipping through the small bundle of photographs he took today. He's organizing them and labeling each one in a small, neat, certain hand. As impressive as Paris is, though, the ones with his friends are definitely his favorites.

After a while, he pauses and glances over at Yancey and smiles a little. "...This is your first time in Paris, innit? What do you think?"

Reid's going to spend a lot of time alone sending the Lewis siblings photos, but Kenzie will be more SOCIAL. SHE AND SOFIA WILL TEAR UP THE TOWN.

She might try to be ROMANTIC with Ulysses, so long as it doesn't result in them alone in a hotel room together. :x

I want to do Paris things with Addy and things with everyone for ALL THE LOCATIONS PLEASE TELL IF YOU WANT ME I AM DROPBOXABLE FOR OTHER DESTINATIONS TOO ❤️

Also the last time I went to Paris I did it with like 10 euros for food for 3 days and just bought a baguette and cheese and walked around and it was v fun so if your kids want to be boozehounds I endorse this method

HMU if you want riley mae for anything!! my primary plans for her involve hitting on french girls and doing truth or shot: drunk manicure edition with her roomies. she definitely deserves this trip.

andddd Ennis is OVERJOYED to be here if anyone wants him for anything specific. He'll be doing some bar hopping at night and enjoying the shit out of some sightseeing and other touristy things during the day.
