SHINNY GAME 1: PROFESSOR PARKS V. QUINNISHERS

The first shinny game of the year is finally here, with new organizers Hazel Keating and Rosemary Stoker at the forefront. Students and supporters are invited down to the lake, which has now been deemed frozen enough that probably no one will fall in and die--though Mr. Thorn has laid down neon yellow markers to indicate the areas where skaters are least likely to fall in and die anyways. A red rectangle has been charmed into the ice to show the rink’s boundaries, and two piles of snow connected by a thick blue line in the ice make up the goals.
Before they begin, the rules are explained to everyone. If you know what's good for you, you won't try to push your luck with these girls.
Before they begin, the rules are explained to everyone. If you know what's good for you, you won't try to push your luck with these girls.
GENERAL RULES
- No wands on the ice except for the referee.
- Players must abide by the Personal Contact Policies
- Any player found to be ignoring the badge system will be immediately ejected from the game.
- Players are not allowed to administer contact beyond their own level. (ex. Green badges cannot check Red badges and vice-versa.)
- There are no positions or goalies.
- As the teams are so large, the game duration has been extended to two hours to allow each player ample time on the ice. Each player will spend at least 10 minutes on the bench (with 7–8 benched at a time).
- Helmets and mouthguards are mandatory for all players, any other padding is left to the discretion of the student. Figure skates are not allowed for safety reasons.
- For their safety, no students are allowed to cross the neon yellow markers.
The teams this year have been named in honor of Gooseberry Shinny's progenitors: Quinn Cunningham and Christopher Park. As they arrive, each player receives their team assignment, a pinny in the color of their team (red on orange for the Professor Parks and black on blue for the Quinnishers), and their Choose-Your-Bruise badge. Every badge is in the shape of a circle.

HOW THIS WORKS:
- You can still sign up any time in the season! The cut off is two days before individual games to give the organizers time to balance the teams, but the season is always open.
- The puck drops at 9:30. Push the tiny thing towards the larger thing and try not to let anybody else get it!
- Fill out the form posted under the appropriate team heading to find out how your character did. Did they score? Did they get hurt? Did they fall through the ice? (Probably no one will fall through the ice. Probably.)
- For this game, the goals and puck are charmed to be brightly-colored, rotating through red, yellow, and blue.
- If the colors match when the puck crosses the goal posts, that goal is worth DOUBLE points.
- If they don't match, then it's just a regular old goal. Still exciting!
- The referee for this match is Clementine Decourt. She's been authorized to blow that whistle as loud as she possibly can, so listen to her if you value your eardrums.
- There's a slight chance your character might get hurt! Healer Mufferaw is on the sidelines to handle any injuries the kids might sustain on the ice, but minor cuts and bruises might be handled by Pre-Healer Studies students!
- Goals and injuries will be reported by either
browbeats or
lilwitchhazel
- The final scores will be determined 7:00 PM MST Monday, December 4! Characters can still check in to see how they did and whether or not they were injured, but any goals they score will not count toward the final score.

» RESULTS: Progress reports will appear here when we hit around the halfway point and when the time is up.
» SPECTATORS & BENCHES: Each team has its own bench closest to the shore for players currently not on the ice, where 7-8 players will be benched at any given time. Temporary benches for spectators have been set up on the shore, and all students and staff are welcome to cheer on their favorite team. Blankets and warming charms are recommended, and hot chocolate is available. Snuggle up, wave flags, show blatant favoritism!
» AFTER THE GAME: Players have just enough time to stow their gear before filing into the cafeteria for lunch. Merciless gloating is basically tradition by this point.

TEAM 1. THE PROFESSOR PARKS
Play: How are they playing today? You might mention if they’re particularly offensive or defensive and if they’re improving. Perhaps they’re worked up, and break the rules by accident? Are they trying to deal contact to anybody in particular?
Are you okay with being injured? If yes, there’s a slight chance your character may be injured. If not, the invisible hand of fate will keep your lucky child safe for another day.
- GREEN: Falling on butts. Sore faces from gloating grins about feeling a'right.
- ORANGE: Mild bruising, existential crises at potential pointlessness of existence.
- PURPLE: No broken bones is the best we can guarantee.
- RED: Uh you won't die and you *probably* won’t break an arm. Broken noses are fair game, though.
Score: Rate their performance on a scale from 1-10.#23 Heathcliff Lacey
Play: Heathcliff is full of energy today and maybe a little overeager to prove he's not a wimp after yesterday's poor showing at the Polar Bear Plunge, so he's in it to win it! He'll be playing pretty rough and he'll be on the offensive, going for the goal whenever he can. He's also maybe trying to show off for Fern.
Are you okay with being injured? Yep~
Score: 7

HEATHCLIFF INJURED!
#37 Spencer Sweet
Play: Enthusiastic! Maybe a little over enthusiastic??? Spencer's thrilled to be on the ice, and is definitely more enamored with zipping around and showing off than scoring. He's most focused when he can affectionately pick on Ruby, Ira and Todd.
Are you okay with being injured? Sure!
Score: 10 for skating, but probably like a 6 for actually playing the damn game.
GOALS & SPENCER INJURED!
SPENCER INJURED!
#3 Ferdinand Ayers
Play: Okay, so he's really, really bad at this. He mostly joined because Ursula wanted him to, and his time is mostly divided between: a) trying not to die, b) trying to look like he knows how not to die, c)flirting with Ursula, d) scoping out anyone who LOOKS like they might be dying or about to start a fight, and taking it into Head Boy mode even on the ice. So...don't expect great things from him. He will really try to make a concentrated effort to score or keep others from scoring...but he's pretty intimidated by all this. (Not showing that is item e.)
Are you okay with being injured? KILL HIM

Re: #3 Ferdinand Ayers
#1 Rosemary Stoker
Play: Rosy is, by default, a defensive player. But, like, an aggressive defensive player, and she does not seem particularly concerned for her own wellbeing on the ice today. This is for fun? Are you sure about that? Being at the forefront of one of the teams brings out the monster in Rosy a little bit, and this red badge is NOT going to waste today.
Are you okay with being injured? Fuck her up, son.
Score: 8. She's determined.

ROSY INJURED!
# 21 Concordia Knight
Play: OFFENSIVE! HYPED! CHEERING LOUDLY! EXUBERANT! She spent a lot of time trying to MURDER Nisha, Dinah, and Quentin! (Out of LOVE!) She may or may not break rules because she doesn't know all of them and gets TOO INTO IT. Di is totally fast-fast-fast moving and she's an OK skater but not that great. She's better at the game than skating. She's not purposefully trying to break rules or cause injury but she gets very into the game and focused on it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Are you okay with being injured?
KILL HER.Yes.Score: 6

#35 Sylvester Stoker
Play: Offensive all the fuckin way. It's been months since he played hockey proper, but he knows his way around, and he's got the strength and body mass to make good use of that red badge. Since Rosy's in charge, Sy isn't looking to break rules, but... well, he might pretend he's thinking about it in order to flirt with the referee. Don't worry, Sy never forgets that WINNING is on the line.
Are you okay with being injured? He deserves any pain you give him.
Score: 8, but next time I'm giving him a 10 in order to goad Alex into giving Rosy better than an 8. COME ON STOKER

#29 Tuesday North
Play: Tuesday is an air bird, not necessarily a snow bird. She tries to play gracefully, but gravity's a bitch, and she could very well end up falling. She could also very well end up in sophomore distractions of any shape. She'll be fine with exploring offense and defense both, because she's at least very EXCITED about learning this new-ish game.
Are you okay with being injured? KILL HER TOO
Score: 5
GOALS
#31 Antonia Papadakis
Play: Unskilled and playing defensively but having a blast while doing it. She's not as interested in winning as she is in maximizing fun and may get distracted with flirting and/or playfully roughhousing.
Are you okay with being injured? My characters exist to be murdered.
Score: 3.
GOALS
#39 Reid Wainwright
Play: Aggressive and focused. Reid's an old hand at this now, and he's feeling pretty confident. He's focused on scoring and if you have a red badge, he's not pulling his punches. Unfortunately, Reid's... not actually a big guy, and if someone large checks him he might be in trouble.
Are you okay with being injured? Fuck him up.
Score: 8 I guess but the Stokers should really be 9's and 10's, he's not quite as good as them.
GOALS
#5 Evangeline Bagman
Play: Offensive as fuck. Eve is a scorer. Her only level is offense. But she’s also not great at skating or stopping or body checking people on purpose.
Are you okay with being injured? Yep
Score: 7
GOALS & EVE INJURED
EVE INJURED!
#15 Noel FT
Play: Mostly defensive. "Body checks" are just skating full-speed at someone to give them an overly-aggressive bear hug. He's not very mean.
He'll also use his prosthetic leg to try to block flying pucks or defend himself if he has to.
Are you okay with being injured? Yeh
Score: 7? idk
GOALS
#11 Jaime Castillo
Play: Jaime shows up ready to play!! He tries to focus, but... he's not great at skating. His stick handling is actually decent, but he can't really stop and changing directions quickly is an adventure. He's playing defensive simply because he's pretty incapable of be offensive, but he is trying to pass the puck to someone who can move properly if it ever comes near him! Maybe he needs some more skating lessons
Are you okay with being injured? Yep!
Score: Solid 5 for effort.

Re: GOALS
#9 PHINEAS BONES
Play: Uh, Phineas still doesn't 100% have this game down, and that's obvious. He loses track of the puck a lot and is a bit of an awkward skater, but he's good about following the general action and is clearly invested in his team winning. :u He makes his mission defense and getting in the way.
Are you okay with being injured? Yes!
Score: 6
GOALS
#13 Reece Downing
Play: Like he always plays: cautiously. He understands the point of the game and he's actually solid on skates, but he's just not... athletically inclined at all. Very standard nerdy highschooler playing sports performance.
Are you okay with being injured? He's green but sure.

#25 Essie Morales-Tran!!!
Play: WOO!!! Hockey time!!! This is SUPER EXCITING!!! Plus she even gets to be the same number again?!? Essie is a VETERAN PLAYER now but this does not mean too much. She'll be spending more time pestering her friends than worrying about stealing the puck, but whatever!!! And NO she is NOT pestering Jeffy more than anyone else, what are you talking about. ⁄(⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄

Score: UM. Let's give her a RETURN TO HOCKEY ZEAL BONUS and give her a 5. (•̀ᴗ•́)و ̑̑

#19 Paris Holloway
Play: This northern child is très aggressive and more interested in keeping people off the puck than taking it for herself. Expect a very physical game from her, but she'll be tactical with her targetting rather than just checking the first person she sees. (Unless you're her brother!!)
Are you okay with being injured? Oui!!
Score: Ehhh.. wobbling on this but I'm gonna match Yancey's 8.

Score: Rate their performance on a scale from 1-10.#14 Lachlan Galbraith
Play: Lachlan is a good skater and he's got good stickwork for a beginner but he is not prepared for the chaos of actually playing hockey. He has fun but also looks periodically horrified by the red badges knocking the hell out of each other and sometimes just nopes out of the way rather than risk getting plowed into by other players. He knows the badge system is supposed to protect him, but still. It's not a terrible debut but it's not overly impressive either. He's fine.

He's bundled up on the bench, cozy, warm, and safe as he watches these children destroy each other. The injuries are getting a little out of hand and he cringes each time somebody's body part bends in an unnatural direction, but otherwise he's having a pretty good time.
"Kill them, Rosy!" he chipperly calls as their Fish Mom tears across the ice.
"Yancey! Show these summer children the ferocity of the North!"
