[Ennis has been working under his bunk with his privacy curtain drawn since he returned from his last final. If anyone's awake, they may notice a dim light from under his curtain when it occasionally moves, but not a single sound comes from his area.]

I'm really sorry to ask this, but do you think I could have the cabin to myself for a couple hours tomorrow? Or... I reckon today, when you wake up? I haven't gone to sleep yet.

It's not for anything ~~gross~~ questionable. Some of my masquerade plans changed and I have to finish a different set I was working on. I don't want people to see so I don't want to work on it in Rudiments and it's getting real cramped under my bunk.

I'm so sorry. I wouldn't inconvenience you if it didn't matter this much to me.

No matter how far in advance I start working, I always end up pulling last minute all nighters on these things. I always, always change my mind at the last minute.

I wish you could help. If it was anything but a secret project...

I tried to sew all the individual ~~feathers~~ pieces on it and now I'm just firing transfiguration spells at it. If I'm screaming for more hot glue sticks, that's a sure sign that it's all going to hell. My Cinderella Moment will be when it all falls apart at midnight.

There's a boy I fancyied and I warded the girls about it for help and one of them suggested sending an anonymous candygram asking him to meet me at the dance and find me by my mask? And I thought it sounded like a good idea at the time? So I spent six hours drafting a letter and then 36 Dragots on chocolate roses and [...]

At lunch, he was opening his candygrams and reading the cards on some of his roses and he stormed out. And [...] my friend opened the card on one of their roses and it was a note from the boy saying that they need to discuss the two of them. [...] It didn't occur to us at the time that it might have been a prank. So I really thought the boy fancied them a lot. And it makes sense? They're close friends and the other person is cute and petite and really smart and plays sports.

And then I realized how stupid my plan was. So I threw my mask into the forest for the ghosts to have.

But I just found out that the letter from the boy I fancy was a prank? He didn't send it? But the boy also said the letters he received were weird. And that includes mine. Which he doesn't know is from me. And can never know.

So that's why I'm rushing to make an entirely different mask and coordinate a new outfit to go with it. [...] I didn't need a whole new outfit but at this point I think it's spite that's fueling me? It's not just enough to look good anymore.

Well, y'know, Cinderella had a happy ending. And you're too good at costuming for everything to fall apart at the last minute.

Uff, En, that's awful to hear. I'm really sorry. But, hey, try to look at it this way, it sounds like your boy got inundated and the unfortunate result of that is that he's probably viewing all his candygrams in a negative light. I don't think your plan was stupid? I think it was just [...] real awful luck? Which [...] I don't know if that'll make you feel better? But it was a cool idea and good that you were even willing to try it, yeah?

Hey, thanks for telling me. I'm glad you're not letting this knock you down completely. I don't think you should give up just yet, but I do like the idea of really going all out at the dance, yeah? Have you thought about playing it all in character?

After the masquerade I'll be waiting for my prince(ss) to come cabin to cabin, comparing the fingerprint I left in the hot glue... when they set their eyes on my burned and blistered finger, they'll know I'm The One.

That does make me feel better. You're right. I think if that happened to me, one bad note would ruin the whole bunch? But also... he's most likely straight and it was a bad idea to begin with so it's kind of a relief it fell through? I think it'd be worse if I went and felt self-conscious the whole night, waiting for him to find me? I don't even know what my plan would've been if he had approached me.

I [...] definitely thought about going in-character. I also thought about doing a bit of pre-gaming before the dance to help with nerves.

Josephine does have a lot of outfits to choose from... ~~I spoil her too m~~ Is it too dishonest? To play as a different person?

Ah, the dreaded straight crush. I mean, sometimes it's hard to tell at this school, you know?

I was planning on playing a character, so I sure hope not! It just adds an extra layer of mystery and keeps things light. Bet it'll be doubly good for you - distract you from your old plan, yeah? It gives you something fun to focus on. Also, pre-gaming isn't the worst idea. It'll make it even easier to get into character.

Until I begin to feel unrest from having my creative freedom stifled. Then I'll turn from Cinderella into the Wicked Queen.

I'm just used to assuming everyone is bi until proven otherwise. This boy is [......] really straight, though. So straight, I was starting to suspect it was just a cover and suddenly felt bold. I reckon the unattainability is a huge appeal? Like... Ah! Yes! Ignore me harder! Call me your friend!!

... If you're going as a character then maybe I will too. Someone new, possibly. I'm getting more comfortable with LARP so it might be time to branch out.

Do you want to do some shots with me after EC setup and we'll go our separate ways to get ready?

I'm a big fan of this character arc, En. I hope you wind up tormenting plenty of young royals during your tenure.

We always want what we can't have kind of situation? Well, in that case, I guess it's good to move on. And getting a little tipsy and partying with strangers is a great distraction. Especially when no one can know who you are. I was thinking I'd try to cut out before midnight. That way, if I goof up somehow, I can still get away with my pride intact.

Yeah! I'll join you for a few shots before the big event.

I'll have a secret society of those loyal to me, branded with the same hot glue scar on their thumbs. We hold crafting club every Wednesday.

You know, this would be the perfect setup for a LARP murder mystery event. One thing at a time, though...

I cut out before midnight last year. I feel less self-conscious if nobody can put a name and face to my bad dancing. There were fireworks at the end of the night last time and it was the perfect time to make a getaway. Race you home?

Of course. I've got no great reason to be there anyway.

They were probably all fake, except for the signed ones. For me, anyway - I still cannot believe that someone signed my name. I got a few weird ones.
