CARNEY PARTY 3; WILD WEST

Saddle up, partner. This New Year’s Eve, we’re heading out west!

The Carney house is decked out in a rustic Wild West theme. The place is covered in hay bales, mason jars, and cacti (even inside). Cameron greets each guest that arrives with a silver pistol that shoots paintballs. For dinner, a house elf catering company appears, cooking barbeque over a pit in the yard. There’s also plenty of alcohol - beer, liquor, wine, you name it.

HOW THIS WORKS

Everyone in the school is invited! As with parties Cameron has held in the past, the rules are simple: have fun, don’t make too much of a mess, and if you break something reparo it. The party starts at 6 PM, and anyone is welcome to stay the night and take the bus back to school from here in the morning.

Characters without costumes can pull an item from the costume chest, but once they pull, they’re obligated to wear it or risk mockery for being a spoilsport. There is also a mechanical bull riding contest out in the yard. The character with the longest ride will win a prize! You may do each of these up to three times, and I’ll keep rnging for them until 11:59 PM on 1/1.

There will be party games including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» FOYER; COSTUME CHEST: Those without costumes are encouraged to pull at least one item from the chest set up in the foyer. Whatever you pull out, you have to wear! The chest is charmed so that you can’t see what you’ve got until you pull it out.

» LIVING ROOM: Have a seat on a hay bale! Or a regular couch.

» BACKYARD: The yard is surrounded by facades that mimic an old western town. There’s a heated pool and a hot tub, but the lows tonight are 21. Beside the pool, there’s a mechanical bull surrounded by padding. If you can go for the longest ride, you’ll win a prize!

» DEN; PARTY GAMES: The den has been set up for party games, including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» BEDROOMS: Anyone is welcome to stay, but it’s up to you to figure out where, because Cameron isn’t organizing it. There are five unlocked bedrooms, plenty of couches and chairs, five full baths, and lots of floor space. Work it out.

» MIDNIGHT: Near midnight, Cameron encourages everyone to stop what they’re doing and come outside, where champagne and sparklers are handed out. The fireworks start about ten minutes til, crescendoing during the countdown, with a big finale at midnight. Grab someone to smooch!

» MORNING AFTER: Who’s hungover and where did you puke? Did you stick around to catch the bus back to school from Olympus?

Fern's pretty sure that's a lie, but she prefers to let it stand. She shrugs and taps her cup against his. "To postal workers."

"Oh noooo." She mourns, at first, trying to make her eyes sad to match Nia's, but they irreversibly spark up soon enough.

At some point she was going to offer Nia the bottle for a toast or something, but she's easily distracted by the warm breathlessness that comes hand in hand with being in Nia's arms. Is it bad luck to kiss a New Years' kiss before midnight? Addy can't remember the foibles of that particular superstition, but to be cautious, she just lets her lips feather over Nia's cheek as she speaks against it.

"How on earth do I keep getting so lucky?"

When Casper removes his hat, Iliya fixes his own, after it had been hit askew by Ulysses. He imagines he looks ridiculous. For once, he doesn't mind.

His expression softens a little as he watches Casper and his obvious frustration. Cameron's advice is solid, and doesn't require elaboration. Even so. "She will not be 'done with this' so quickly. You are not easy to forget," Iliya says quietly. "But it is your choice alone how she remembers you."

While Casper would like to protest that he isn't being dramatic...he knows that he is. He can feel how tangled up he's become in doubt and how he wants to dwell on the situation. Find a way to solve it, even though he knows it doesn't work like that. Still. Cameron and Iliya could be right about Gwen's feelings toward him and there could still be time to act. Make the choices that might make the difference. If he wants to make them.

He gives a small nod. "I'll apologize," he agrees stiffly, "That's first. Then the rest." He tucks some of his dark hair behind one ear, then adds, "...Before the next party at the Grotto if I can. I told her I'd see her there." He is not about to mention that he'd promised he'd dance with her. His dark eyes flit in Cameron's direction, hoping to say it before he can, "Not a date."

"No one's gonna ask who we're talking about, huh?" Ulysses says to the group, the beginnings of a smirk tugging up one corner of his mouth.

He's got a sneaking suspicion that he knows the girl in question — although, he wouldn't feel confident making a guess outright, what with how half the school was nursing a crush on Casper at any given time. Or so Ulysses assumed, anyway; nothing was more fun than picking on a sourpuss, and you didn't get much more sour than their beloved prefect.

“Karma,” Nia says definitively, drawing back to shoot Addy a confident, but serious look. Maybe it’s the alcohol, but she sounds distinctly unguarded when she explains, “It’s all that good you put into the world, honey.” A slow blink follows before her expression melts back into a playful smile. “Now, me, on the other hand? Someone’s for sure overcompensating me for the Head Girl work. But I won’t tell.”

She glances, then, over Addy’s shoulder. “Should we find a good spot for fireworks? Somewhere...” Nia pauses, shrugging at the crowd of their peers around them. “Quiet?”

"Howdy," Cameron says, inclining his head towards his roommate as he comes to stand beside him. He found a new white hat to replace the one he passed to Iliya, but he can't tip it, because he has a sparkler in one hand and two champagne flutes in the other. He holds his hand out to offer him the glass held between his pinky and ring fingers.

It is, she thinks, probably the alcohol that makes Addy not immediately rebuff that by saying she's not as good a person as it all seems. By making a joke about all the people she's prooobably made suffer in her short time on earth. She smiles into Nia's cheek instead, pleased in spite of herself. "You make the world better every day, beautiful." She says softly, with quiet conviction. That's true.

And though usually the energy out here is something she'd want on New Years, all of the people she loved best boisterous and hopeful, the idea of something a little more secluded with Nia suddenly sounds very good. She separates just enough to walk, having enough sense to know they're in a slight time crunch. "We could go inside," she offers. "Most everyone's out here. We could get a whole window."

"She thinks I'm prettier than a lot of girls," Spencer brags from his spot on the floor.

"Deal," Spencer agrees without even thinking about it. "You stay on that bull longer than me and I'll wait on you hand and foot all night, cowboy." As soon as it comes out of his mouth, Spencer wonders if calling Ira cowboy was one step too far. Which, yeah, of course it was. When does Spencer ever not accidentally go too far?

Ruby is not even a little put out by this. She leans in towards Cash, and drops her voice to a conspiratorial tone she knows full well Spencer can hear. "Don't you think so too?"

Cash can read Ruby's tone loud and clear, but even if he was interested in... flirting-by-proxy or... whatever this was, he wouldn't be good at it. Ruby. Hi. Cash gives her a Look. Don't drag him into this.

So, instead, he takes her question at face value. Cocks his head, squints a little — processing, processing. Processing complete. "He has a very symmetrical face."

As a kindergarten graduate, he can keep his hands to himself, thank you very much. ... he does briefly consider it, though.

"I hope this partying will suffice," Cash replies, glancing down at the bottle, then back up to Hazel's face. There is approximately no amount of kiss tutoring from Hazel that will convince him to repeat this performance at a Grotto party. This time, he's definitely learning his lesson. Hopefully.

Ruby smirks, both at the pointed look, and Cash's conclusions. "I like yours better," she says, and gives him a kiss on the cheek before moving back to her place in the circle. Sorry, Spence. She tried.

"Rude." Spencer's whining is made a lot less convincing by the laughter he's fighting back. He's never been so pleased to be called symmetrical.

Ruby's touch is light. A single swipe with her fingers to move Madison's hair away from her face; then her hand on Madison's cheek, barely enough pressure to hold her there. If she wanted to escape, it would take almost no effort at all.

They kiss. Ruby pulls away after only a few seconds. Not enough to get hot and bothered. Not enough for anything. "Thanks," she says, carefully neutral. Her hand drops back to her side.

"Okay okay, I'm shutting up, I—" The kiss cuts him off, apparently being the only thing capable of shushing him. Despite promises to make it quick, Spencer's in much less of a hurry than he claimed.

Sorry everyone, this is now a mega make out. They really should've gone for the closet. Either move around them, or throw empty plastic bottles to get them to stop.

"Mmmm, we'll see how I'm feeling at the Grotto," Hazel practically chirps, still smiling brightly.

Despite harassing the other Coppertale, Hazel does want to give him a chance to back out; she closes the distance between them slowly, intent on giving Cash a mostly innocent kiss.

Oh. Strange. Now he has to kiss Ira, too. Of course, each spin was an independent event, so everyone in the circle had the same probability of being selected, but still. It felt funny. Two roommates. Cash nods resolutely, then shuffles forward with as much dignity as he can muster, considering he's very drunk, on his knees, and about to kiss his friend; he's slightly too far back to take Ira's hand.

"This won't be weird," Cash says, in what is half promise and half untimely reference to Spencer and Ira's situation earlier in the year. Alcohol is doing nothing for his filter, unfortunately.

"You can get a birthday makeout closet, if that's what you want." She's been watching this girl aim for all of the boys in the circle, so Ruby can guess what her preference is, but it never hurts to offer. "But a kiss is just fine. What'll it be?"

"Cameron," Iliya says, sounding more surprised than he means to. "I was just thinking about you. I mean... that is, I should give you back—" He touches his cowboy hat with one hand, ready to take it off, then he looks at Cameron's own hat, and realizes forcing Cameron to wear two hats would be silly, and then he finally sees the champagne flutes. "Oh. Right. Sorry."

Mercifully, Iliya only wastes another two seconds figuring out how to not take the champagne with the same hand holding a sparkler, or accidentally burn Cameron with it. Not injuring anyone is truly the best Iliya can hope for in any social interaction.

For some reason, the thought of kissing Hazel doesn't inspire the same abject terror in him that kissing Calvin and Spencer and Ira does. Maybe it was because of her willingness to provide constructive criticism. That made it feel a little more clinical — a little less out-of-control.

It's fine, Hazel. He can do this.

Cash does not use tongue.

It's at this point that a very drunk Wilde enters the circle. He lurches in, resting an arm on Ulysses' shoulder and looking extremely fashionable -- sans the giant sombrero he was gifted earlier, of course, as that is now floating in the pool.

"What up," he says. "Is it me? You're totally talking about me, right?"

A joke. They obviously aren't. He's quiet, swaying, and asks for no catch up; he probably wouldn't be able to follow it anyway.

Cameron nods at Casper's conclusion. "Well, there's your plan! I like it. Taking it slow, nothing wrong with that. Gotta get a feel for each other." He nods. "Anyone else got any problems we should collectively solve?"

Cameron waves at Wilde enthusiastically upon his arrival, like he hasn't seen him in ages. "A girl's got a crush on Casper. He was just contemplating telling us who. Eventually. Maybe," Cameron explains. Ulysses has the beginnings of a smug expression, but Cameron can't quite tell if it means anything or if it's just his face. "If we get him drunk enough."
