SHINNY GAME 4: HAT TRICK HYDRAS VS. BLUE LINE BOGGARTS

Hope you all had a good time visiting with your families! But just in case you didn't and you were hoping for a mild concussion so you could forget the whole affair, come on down to the lake for the FOURTH game of Lake Gooseberry Shinny! Organizers Hazel Keating and Rosemary Stoker remain dictators of this intramural league, and it has nothing to do with their love of power. The team names, however, have changed again. Can you even remember what team you're on? How many different mascots could these girls possibly come up with?
Spring may be on the horizon, but the lake is still quite frozen. Mr. Thorn has still laid down neon yellow markers to indicate the areas where skaters are least likely to fall in and die, a red rectangle has been charmed into the ice to show the rink's boundaries, and two piles of snow connected by a thick blue line in the ice make up the goals.
Before they begin, the rules are explained to everyone. If you know what's good for you, you won't try to push your luck with these girls.

GENERAL RULES
- No wands on the ice except for the referee.
- Players must abide by the Personal Contact Policies
- Any player found to be ignoring the badge system will be immediately ejected from the game.
- Players are not allowed to administer contact beyond their own level. (ex. Green badges cannot check Red badges and vice-versa.)
- There are no positions or goalies.
- As the teams are so large, the game duration has been extended to two hours to allow each player ample time on the ice. Each player will spend at least 10 minutes on the bench (with 7–8 benched at a time).
- Helmets and mouthguards are mandatory for all players, any other padding is left to the discretion of the student. Figure skates are not allowed for safety reasons.
- For their safety, no students are allowed to cross the neon yellow markers.
As they arrive, each player is reminded of their team assignment and is given a pinny in the color of their team (red on orange for the Hat Trick Hydras and black on blue for the Blue Line Boggarts) and their Choose-Your-Bruise badge. Every badge is in the shape of a circle. They're also informed that, while the gameplay is generally the same as normal hockey... there's a twist.

HOW THIS WORKS:
- You can still sign up any time in the season! The cut off is two days before individual games to give the organizers time to balance the teams, but the season is always open.
- The puck drops at 9:30. Push the tiny thing towards the larger thing and try not to let anybody else get it!
- Fill out the form posted here under the appropriate team heading to find out how your character did. Did they score? Did they get hurt? Did they fall through the ice? (Probably no one will fall through the ice. Probably.)
- For this game, the goals and puck are charmed to be brightly-colored, rotating through red, yellow, and blue.
- If the colors match when the puck crosses the goal posts, you score!
- If they don't match, then you have a choice. Either opt for no point or a shootout.
- But it's not a normal shootout. It's a three-legged shootout, where you and another person (determined by RNG) will be attached at the leg and given one chance each to earn your points.
- If you both make the goal, you get double points! Anything less than that is worth nada.
- The referee for this match is Zachary Zheng. He's way nicer than Clem.
- There's a slight chance your character might get hurt! Healer Mufferaw is on the sidelines to handle any injuries the kids might sustain on the ice, but minor cuts and bruises might be handled by Pre-Healer Studies students!
- Goals and injuries will be reported by either
browbeats or
lilwitchhazel
- The final scores will be determined 7:00 PM MST
Monday, January 29Tuesday, January 30! Characters can still check in to see how they did and whether or not they were injured, but any goals they score will not count toward the final score.
» TEAM 1. THE HAT TRICK HYDRAS & TEAM 2. THE BLUE LINE BOGGARTS: Where the action happens. Check in here to see how your kid did!
» RESULTS: Progress reports will appear here when we hit around the halfway point and when the time is up.
» SPECTATORS & BENCHES: Each team has its own bench closest to the shore for players currently not on the ice, where 7-8 players will be benched at any given time. Temporary benches for spectators have been set up on the shore, and all students and staff are welcome to cheer on their favorite team. Blankets and warming charms are recommended, and hot chocolate is available. Snuggle up, wave flags, show blatant favoritism!
» AFTER THE GAME: Players have just enough time to stow their gear before filing into the cafeteria for lunch. Merciless gloating is basically tradition by this point.
» OOC: Questions, Comments, etc.

TEAM 1. THE HAT TRICK HYDRAS
Play: How are they playing today? You might mention if they’re particularly offensive or defensive and if they’re improving. Perhaps they’re worked up, and break the rules by accident? Are they trying to deal contact to anybody in particular?
Are you okay with being injured? If yes, there’s a slight chance your character may be injured. If not, the invisible hand of fate will keep your lucky child safe for another day.
- GREEN: Falling on butts. Sore faces from gloating grins about feeling a'right.
- ORANGE: Mild bruising, existential crises at potential pointlessness of existence.
- PURPLE: No broken bones is the best we can guarantee.
- RED: Uh you won't die and you *probably* won’t break an arm. Broken noses are fair game, though.
Score: Rate their performance on a scale from 1-10.#1 Rosemary Stoker
Play: Rosy is usually aggressive on the ice, but she's playing like she's got something to prove today. Mostly because she does. She's laser-focused on the puck and not exactly the best at passing today, but she'll throw herself in the fray when it looks like someone needs help. She acts like MVP is a title she could potentially win today, which it's definitely not and she probably wouldn't be eligible for it anyways.
Are you okay with being injured? please include death in your roll for her rin
Score: GIVE MY GIRL A 10
GOALS
#13 Dinah Dixon
Play: Well she's super warmed up from playing YESTERDAY so she's like basically a pro by now? Or, well... she's less like Bambi on ice than usual. Dinah is still all splayed limbs and no self-awareness when it comes to playing hockey, and prone to just fucking off like an asshole if the opportunity presents itself, but she's fearless enough to maybe sometimes get lucky shoving through a pack of people. Catch her with the puck for .3 seconds before she furiously just slaps it away to someone else because she was never meant for this level of responsibility.
Are you okay with being injured? she's going to cause herself harm
Score: 6. She's improving probably.
GOALS
#29 Fern Mufferaw
Play: Fern is focused. She has some feelings she doesn't know how to deal with, so she's channeling them into hockey instead.
Score: 10.
GOALS
#5 Evangeline Bagman
Play: Eve is exhausted. This was an exhausting weekend. And it's probably apparent by how disinterested she is right now. She plays the game, because sports are fun, but her heart isn't really in it. She doesn't purposefully deal damage to anybody, and she doesn't go out of her way to grab the puck with. She's moderately good at playing defense.
Are you okay with being injured? Yes
Score: 5
GOALS
#27 Essie Morales-Tran!!!
Play: Essie's kind of a mess of emotions today, getting herself worked up early about family inevitably leaving again, but she's going to play her very best while they're still here to cheer her on!!!
Are you okay with being injured? Yep!
Score: I think I usually rate her in the 4-6 range, so let's be nice and give her a 7 today.
GOALS & ESSIE INJURED!
ESSIE INJURED!
#21 Paris Holloway
Play: She just wants to impress her father with how well she can utterly destroy Yancey on the ice. All the checking, as usual!!
Are you okay with being injured? Oui!!
Score: A murderous 9.
GOALS
#11 Jaime Castillo
Play: Not bad! He's doing much better than he was two weeks ago, even if his problems with Ennis haven't exactly been resolved yet. He's still... not great at hockey. But he's trying! He's improved some and tries to be a little more offensive, but... he's not, really.
Are you okay with being injured? Yarp.
Score: Have a 5, Jaime.
GOALS
#33 Nia Papadakis
Play: Back to old habits. (read: being bad at hockey and goofing off.) But she's most of a season down, so she kind of knows what she's doing now, at least? That's good, right?? Still, goal prime is have fun.
Are you okay with being injured? Murder murder murder.
Score: An admirably average 5.
GOALS
#?? Griffin Flowers
Play: I feel strongly that he might be accidentally playing on the wrong team right now. And that's okay. Fly high, little squonk.
Are you okay with being injured? Of course
Score: 4 for thinking he is and/or actually playing for the wrong team.
GOALS & GRIFFIN INJURED!
GRIFFIN INJURED!
#31 Tuesday North
Play: Hey, you know what, the last couple weeks have been very good to Tuesday. Her confidence is at an all-time high. She's showing off today, as she's come to learn that works out for her. She's still not as good at this as she as flying, but she scored that goal one time, and YEAH she's trying for another one.
Are you okay with being injured? Yes. Teach her what hubris is.
Score: 8
GOALS
#25 Heathcliff Lacey
Play: Heathcliff is pumped and so ready to play hockey! But, like Todd and Ira, he's distracted by messing around and roughhousing with his buddies today too. Sorry again, Hazel! At least they're having fun?
Are you okay with being injured? Yep~
Score: 7
GOALS
#3 Ferdinand Ayers
Play: This is his like third game, right? He can skate in a straight line now! He can hit the thing with the other thing!
He's still mostly using it as an excuse to talk to people and not be in head boy mode, though. Whoops.
Are you okay with being injured? Break him.
Score: 4, mildly below mediocre, yayyyy

#9 Phineas Bones
Play: This might be Phin's best performance yet, which isn't saying much. He's skating with more finesse now, but still not taking things entirely seriously -- mostly just getting in the way and occasionally cackling over stealing the puck unexpectedly.
Are you okay with being injured? Y
Score: 7
GOALS
#37 Sylvester Stoker
Play: Back on speaking terms with the captain, which is nice. Being around in parents always gets in an aggro mood, so he's looking to work off that extra tension. He's focused and no-nonsense, and not looking to goof off with anyone, even his own Quidditch kids or Clem. If Rosy's on defense, Sy will take offense; and vice versa. He's watching his sister carefully.

#35 Micah St. Clair
Play: Not playing on Hazel's team continues to be a huge bummer, but it does mean he has an excuse to harass Hazel, Calvin, Jeffy, Ana and Todd. He's... kind of playing offense? If playing offense just means he's always trying to put himself in the way of his friends and steal the puck from them.

Score: Rate their performance on a scale from 1-10.#18 Jefferson Key
Play: Jeffy is in REALLY HIGH SPIRITS today, because seeing his family is really great??? And they just bribed him with the possibility of a LETTERMAN JACKET if he keeps up his 4.0?? This should translate to being a better player, but instead it makes Jeffy more easily distracted. Any time anyone does something good, no matter what team they're on, he cheers loudly. Are they on the SCHOOL TEAM? Oh man, he's going to give you a high five or a slap on the back or a punch in the arm then because you guys are AWESOME!!!
Are you okay with being injured? smear my sweet baby
Score: 7!!!

#24 Nisha Lewis
Play: Uneven. Nisha isn't sure if she's relieved the weekend's over or what. She is a lot more bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhh today than normal, so a physically violent sport is just the thing to distract her.
Are you okay with being injured? Of course.
