Hey I hope everyone's okay after last night.

I know we're usually just blowing things up (by accident!!!) but things are getting [...] bad and I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to just wait and hope things all work out so I wanted to put out a call to all my fellow mad scientists to join me and Mr. Oakes in the shed to try to build something to catch these things before they can mess with us. I'll be there whenever I can, not just my normal office hours. Come if you want. No pressure!!!.

I know you guys are all amazing and smart so if we all put our heads together, we're bound to like come up with some decent prototypes to try out on these things???.

I'm sure Mr. Oakes is already working on something because he's like a genius, but I've asked any of the Artificing students who're interested to come join me and him and try to figure out how to make something that'll help us catch these things before they can confuse us. Like a Stranger Sneakoscope or something. If you guys have any ideas, let me know???

Hey, so I was just gonna reach out to Lachlan cause because he's responsible for Hermeticism and I think I'm dealing with like NEW MAGIC new magic here, but really I think I should maybe talk to all of you???.

Last night was [...] really, really bad. And things have been weird for awhile. And it's like [...] okay, I know we're not supposed to go into the forest and look for things, but this stuff is coming for us, just like stuff did last year and I can't be the only person who doesn't want to just do nothing. So I'm gonna be in the shed doing what I do and working with the other Artificing students to try to find a solution, but like

You guys are all at the top of your subjects so you probably have some ideas on ways to help too and like what I'm trying to say is that we need to take advantage of every option we have to protect ourselves so I'm reaching out to all of you, even if it's not like an Artificing specific thing.

Way ahead of you. If I can, I'm going to the shed today. And I'm not leaving til I've got a few ideas, but sneakoscopes are good too. I'll start there. Bring food, too, we may all be here a while.

I'm thinking maybe something small that can be charmed to the person, to verify that's the real student or teacher. Help us tell at first glance.

We need something on more than one front. I don't have the materials to do anything about what we hear, though. It's cheaper to buy sneakoscopes at this point, but they are largely useless as anything other than a general alarm. They just make noise, they don't tell you what the danger is. But I'll grab a couple, take them apart, and see if I can reverse engineer something more specific.

I was talking with the other senior Ribbonfins last week about collaborating with some Hermeticism students to figure out the identification charms at work on the journals and apply those to items that would identify who you're looking at on the fly. I'm not much for the complicated stuff, you know? So, I figure, if we can get more people working on this, it'll be better.

I've been thinking about it. I don't know how realistic any of this is, but, I'm going to talk to Mr. C-B about it.

From all the stuff people were saying last night, it sounds like they're easy to kill. And that they'd rather run than fight us. So, something that identifies them like a sneakoscope seems useful. Let them know that you know what they are, and they won't be so inclined to continue their interaction. That way, people who don't want to fight won't have to.

Ideas

The Protean Charm would let us have items that link together as a form of identification. It is [...] complicated. That's end of senior year stuff, but I think I might talk to Cesaro Mr. C-B about at least pushing up the date, or incorporating it into the junior curriculum due to extenuating circumstances.

A modified Age Line that rejects beings that pass over it if they don't belong. It's the sort of thing we could lay down at the entrances of our cabins, just be sure the Charm includes all students and teachers. Otherwise we'll catch flack.

Anyone in Hermeticism want to futz with Anti-Cheating Charms with me and see what we can do? I know a few of them from having to grade papers.

If we knew more about these things, we could modify Revelio to reveal them specifically, I bet.

I mean, I guess if you're in a room with seven of your friends, and you cast Homenum Revelio and you only get six pings, you've got your answer, huh? Assuming they can't fool the spell, that's a relatively easy and non-invasive test to run.

But you're right. It's difficult to know what will work when we know so little about the Str them, but we can still try. Maybe defining what they aren't will be enough to make a spell functional. I'll start going through the common identification theorems to find the most reliable framework for something like this and see what I can come up with from there.

Thanks, that would be good. Some of the Artificing kids want to try linking up the same identification magic the journals use into an object we can carry around. Which is like a great idea on paper but that magic's serious business so we could use some help.
