DRAMA AUDITIONS

Every year at Gooseberry, a performance is held right before winter break. This year, the Drama Club will be putting on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Inspired by the Halloween Dance, Mrs. Acuña and Ms. Thrussell explain that their plan is to use a Victorian costuming and setting theme, which they hope to be quite ambitious.

Students may try out and potentially be cast as any role, regardless of gender.
Shenanigans may cost you a part!
Drama students get preference for roles, but anyone may try out.
If you have multiple characters trying out for roles: We're going to try to spread out the roles to as many players as possible, so you may only see one of your characters getting a spot.
Not everyone will get a role.
Students may also apply to work backstage in the technical crew.

The Athenians

Theseus: Duke of Athens
Hippolyta: Queen of the Amazons, betrothed to Theseus
Philostrate: Master of the Revels
Egeus: father of Hermia, wants her to marry Demetrius
Hermia: daughter of Egeus, in love with Lysander
Helena: in love with Demetrius, Hermia's friend
Lysander: in love with Hermia at first but later loves Helena and then returns to loving Hermia
Demetrius: initially loves Hermia but later loves Helena

The fairies

Oberon: Titania's husband and King of the Fairies
Titania: Oberon's wife and Queen of the Fairies
Puck: servant to Oberon
Peaseblossom: fairy servant to Titania
Cobweb: fairy servant to Titania
Moth: fairy servant to Titania
Mustardseed: fairy servant to Titania

The mechanicals

Peter Quince: carpenter, leads the troupe and plays Prologue
Nick Bottom: weaver, plays Pyramus
Francis Flute: bellows-mender, plays Thisbe
Robin Starveling: tailor, plays Moonshine
Tom Snout: tinker, plays Wall
Snug: joiner, plays Lion

Members for the technical crew are also needed! These can be people working on lighting, music, set design, costumes, makeup, etc.

Are they in Drama Club?: Characters in Drama are more likely to get a part, as they are assumed to be more practiced.
Preferred Roles: Which roles would they (or you) want? There's no guarantee that they'll get a preferred role.
Their Audition: Describe how their audition went.
Rating: Rate their performance on a scale of 1 to 10.

Character: Ty Hawkeswood
Are they in Drama Club?: Yep!
Preferred Roles: Reading for Puck, but he'd be happy in any role.
Their Audition: Ty has a natural talent for words and, by the time he's on stage, he's memorized the relevant section of the text and delivers the lines with clear understanding, distinct rhythm, and perfect pitch. Though his lisp, as always, does make itself very plainly audible. Rather than just standing still and delivering the lines, he moves around the front section of the stage, using a dancer's precise control to adopt a quick and nimble stride and radiating confidence and dramatic flare that (he hopes) seems appropriate for the mischievous fairie. He casually incorporates some minor acrobatic feats into the audition to further illustrate how the character might move. Clearly, he's got a concept in mind.
