ROUND THREE: Conquer the Maze!

You couldn't miss today's event if you'd tried. The entire atrium has been repurposed for the grand heist and much of the open area is blocked off by ominous modular walls, each of them stretching over eight feet tall - the freshmen insisted that none of the upperclassmen giants be able to spy on their work.

A set of ominous doors mark the entrance to this strange contraption. And just outside, a row of familiar briefcases wait on a table. Participants are asked to open their briefcases (and those who could not solve their puzzles last round are assisted by an especially smug freshman), because the key to solving this week's puzzle is waiting inside: a map. What's beyond the walls is the final event: a maze full of shifting pathways and frankly obnoxious traps. And somewhere, in the middle, the grand prize.

If you're going to pull this heist off, you'll need to conquer the maze.

Welcome to Round Three of Let’s Steal Prom!

HOW THIS WORKS

• Competitors are limited to those teams which previously signed up. In the first round, each team was presented with a set of cards listing their 'role' for the event. These roles are for flavor purposes only and have no effect on the final outcome.


• Stewart Ocean and his band of merry freshmen were still primarily responsible for this round, but Ursula did make sure nothing in the maze could seriously harm someone. If something seems too complicated for a freshman... assume staff helped.


• Post your pair under the THE MAZE heading, and play out a scene based on the current round's scenario. For every tag, Manx will RNG a number between 1–25 to add to your pair's score.


• Current Scenario: As soon as your team enters the maze, the wall closes behind them. That's not the only wall moving - every 30 seconds, the maze rearranges itself, but thankfully your map updates itself as well. Throughout the maze are trip wires, pressure plates, statues that resemble various staff members and magical proximity sensors that can trigger a variety of traps (see team assignments). At the end of the final hallway, there they are - a pair of crowns! Unfortunately there's a magical laser maze that has to be bested first and a team of eager looking freshmen perched high atop the maze walls ready to dump buckets of green slime if they hear the buzzing sound of one of the lasers being tripped. In a final twist, once obtained, the crowns explode in a burst of confetti and there's a note saying the winners will be announced at prom. In the distance, you can hear the sound of a wall opening. Have fun getting back out!


• Please note! This information is being provided for flavor purposes. There's no need to encounter all traps or actually reach the crowns. Just pick somewhere in the maze and have fun putzing around. All gas effects encountered last 1 minute.


• Up to 6 tags per pair will count for your score each round, i.e. you only get a maximum of six RNG numbers to add to your score. But feel free to tag more or less!


• Double jeopardy! Team lagging behind in the weekly rankings? At some point during the maze each team will encounter a door labeled "SHORTCUT???". Passing through this doorway could bring a team closer to their goal... or it could land them back at the start of the course. Teams that opt to try the shortcut will receive an additional RNG score between -50 and +50.


• The team with the fastest time through the maze will gain 5 bonus points.


• Scores for round 3 will be rolled on all tags posted through Friday, May 25th 11:59 PM EST. For the sake of suspense, third round rolls and results won't be revealed until prom. Scores from prior rounds will carry over.

THE MAZE

Salubrious Sneezes

Incapable of keeping his hands off of things, Yancey slides his fingers across the walls as they pass through the maze. It's amazing this hasn't bitten him in the ass, yet. At the end of a long hall that splits off in two different directions, a statue of Ms. Lilywhite stares back at them.

Yancey only gives it a passing glance. "Almost scarier than the real thing, yeah?" He quips before turning his attention to Lachlan and the map in his hands. "It's right next, right?"

Titanic Panic

Cameron had considered just skipping this final leg of the prom heist. They don't intend to win it, and he's still a little hungover from last night. On the other hand, he feels obligated to participate. He was on Event Committee, after all, so he shouldn't just abandon the event. Besides, he had promised Iliya that they were going to have fun throughout the games, and he's still sticking with the plan.

"Hey, a maze. Deja vu, huh?" he says, gently elbowing Iliya. "Okay. How do we most suck at a maze?" he muses, as soon as they step inside. "We could just stay here, but I got a feeling that the freshmen will try to prod us along. We could just amble, but we might still accidentally end up where we're supposed to go. We could find a dead end and spend the whole time making out." He shoots him a sideways glance and a grin. "What should our losing strategy be?"

Spira

Spencer's feet have long since come loose from the nefarious vegetation, but his lips remain planted on Ira's. They're not gonna win this thing anyway, way more competitive couples are out there, desperate to be prom royalty. Illegal prom royalty, but ran by Event Committee, so still some kind of school-sanctioned prom royalty? WHATEVER it doesn't matter! Sometimes Ira's got the itch to take first, and so does Spencer, but mainly when there's, like, a sport. His sport.

This is all pointless justification for when he slides his arms around Ira's waist and kisses him again. Then the corner of his mouth. Then his jaw.

Catwomen

Stewart had gone above and beyond again, and Jade's proud of the smartest freshman she'd gone head-to-head with. She's also not great at direction, and there are trip wires to avoid here. Her fingers are curled between Ari's, so if one of them fell afoul of something, they'd at least have a point of contact.

"They did so well, didn't they?" She sounds a little delighted, even as she sidestepped what looked like a funny tile. "I'm...oh!"

She doesn't get to fully wax poetic about the accomplishments of their freshmen friends, as she does land on a strange tile, or something, and without much warning, a net falls from the ceiling.

Nap Mom & Squonk Take the Long Way Home

So there had been a setback. Whoops!! The SHORTCUT??? had spit them back at the start of the maze and they had to pick their way through Nerf Darts and Mistletoe and that one statue of Mr. Chettri that they both wasted at least two minutes trying to talk to because it looked so realistic, but they're finally here. The crowns are IN SIGHT, and they just need to make it through this MAZE.

"Ready, Datsun?" Poison Sumac whispers unnecessarily, pulling her hair into a sloppy braid to avoid setting off these deadly lasers. Time to put all that yoga time to good use. Georgie drops down to the ground and starts to slide under the first beam of light.

Flotsam&Jetsam

At least this is the last one. There are only a few ways left that the freshmen could torture them now. That's only a good thought until Ferdie sees the floor turn into a pit of balls before his very feet. He nods and begins to step across. But of course this isn't that easy, and he sinks up to the waist immediately.

"I guess I should've seen that one, huh." He grins up at Ursula. There were worse things.

Danger Butt

Chad looks worse for the wear like three minutes into this. He keeps jumping away from the wall, and then realizes he's close to Dinah, and has to jump away from her too. He decides that it's a good strategy to walk directly behind his taller "friend" and hope she doesn't notice.

That's especially true when he hears a rumble and sees a huge beach ball barreling toward him. In a fit of self-destruction, he pushes Dinah toward it. "SACRIFICE YOURSELF." He commands her.
That's probably a mistake.

Adverse Drug Reaction Has An Adverse Drug Reaction

"You know what, I kind of hope we win this thing," Danny muses, smug, as he carefully steps over a rather obvious floor trigger. "Winning something's even better when you're not even going to the event it's for." Another uneven tile he skirts around. "We could have JD or Jonah go up and accept our heist crowns in absentia."

He pauses just before a statue of Ms. Vector and turns to prop a hand against one of the walls, leaning on it, thinking now's a good a time as any to flirt. His hand sinks in - farther than it should - and there's a loud click.

"Shit."
