ROUND THREE: Conquer the Maze!

You couldn't miss today's event if you'd tried. The entire atrium has been repurposed for the grand heist and much of the open area is blocked off by ominous modular walls, each of them stretching over eight feet tall - the freshmen insisted that none of the upperclassmen giants be able to spy on their work.

A set of ominous doors mark the entrance to this strange contraption. And just outside, a row of familiar briefcases wait on a table. Participants are asked to open their briefcases (and those who could not solve their puzzles last round are assisted by an especially smug freshman), because the key to solving this week's puzzle is waiting inside: a map. What's beyond the walls is the final event: a maze full of shifting pathways and frankly obnoxious traps. And somewhere, in the middle, the grand prize.

If you're going to pull this heist off, you'll need to conquer the maze.

Welcome to Round Three of Let’s Steal Prom!

HOW THIS WORKS

• Competitors are limited to those teams which previously signed up. In the first round, each team was presented with a set of cards listing their 'role' for the event. These roles are for flavor purposes only and have no effect on the final outcome.


• Stewart Ocean and his band of merry freshmen were still primarily responsible for this round, but Ursula did make sure nothing in the maze could seriously harm someone. If something seems too complicated for a freshman... assume staff helped.


• Post your pair under the THE MAZE heading, and play out a scene based on the current round's scenario. For every tag, Manx will RNG a number between 1–25 to add to your pair's score.


• Current Scenario: As soon as your team enters the maze, the wall closes behind them. That's not the only wall moving - every 30 seconds, the maze rearranges itself, but thankfully your map updates itself as well. Throughout the maze are trip wires, pressure plates, statues that resemble various staff members and magical proximity sensors that can trigger a variety of traps (see team assignments). At the end of the final hallway, there they are - a pair of crowns! Unfortunately there's a magical laser maze that has to be bested first and a team of eager looking freshmen perched high atop the maze walls ready to dump buckets of green slime if they hear the buzzing sound of one of the lasers being tripped. In a final twist, once obtained, the crowns explode in a burst of confetti and there's a note saying the winners will be announced at prom. In the distance, you can hear the sound of a wall opening. Have fun getting back out!


• Please note! This information is being provided for flavor purposes. There's no need to encounter all traps or actually reach the crowns. Just pick somewhere in the maze and have fun putzing around. All gas effects encountered last 1 minute.


• Up to 6 tags per pair will count for your score each round, i.e. you only get a maximum of six RNG numbers to add to your score. But feel free to tag more or less!


• Double jeopardy! Team lagging behind in the weekly rankings? At some point during the maze each team will encounter a door labeled "SHORTCUT???". Passing through this doorway could bring a team closer to their goal... or it could land them back at the start of the course. Teams that opt to try the shortcut will receive an additional RNG score between -50 and +50.


• The team with the fastest time through the maze will gain 5 bonus points.


• Scores for round 3 will be rolled on all tags posted through Friday, May 25th 11:59 PM EST. For the sake of suspense, third round rolls and results won't be revealed until prom. Scores from prior rounds will carry over.

"It's definitely babbling gas. It's like I can't stop talking, even if I don't have anything to say. Ugh, I hate this. Who invented this and why, it doesn't even have the possible uses that veritaserum does. It's just annoying. And, hm, definitely still your fault. You're supposed to be so big and strong, how are you going to let one little girl knock-"

Heathcliff grabs her hand and yanks her back down on top of him so that she lands on his chest, almost nose to nose. He was more prepared to catch her full weight this time, but she grins and digs her elbow into his side playfully. "Oh, is that supposed to impress me?" she says, still talking over him at least half of the time. "I'm not that easy. You'll have to try harder than that." Half desperate to stop chattering, and half because Heathcliff's so cute, Fern leans in to kiss him. It's a good thing neither of them care about winning this.

Cameron grabs Iliya's shoulders, turning them both to put himself between Iliya and the source of the darts. It's almost completely useless by the time he does so, because the darts have mostly all fired. He only manages to catch a couple with his shoulders. Then again, it's also all for show, as he has suddenly decided to pick back up with their role playing game. He puts a hand to his chest, then looks down at it, as if it's covered in blood from an exit wound. He sinks heavily to his knees. "Ah. I fear that it may be the end for me," he says softly, picking his faux Bulgarian accent back up. "You will have to go on without me, my love."

Loot the Booty

Riley jumps and lets out a little squeal when January honks her booty, but even all the extra slime slopping down on their heads now can't make it seem like she's upset about it. Oh, were they trying to be careful here? Or racing for something? Because uhhh Riley immediately forgot about that.

"Shit girl, I'm just a whole damn mess," she says, like that's a sexy thing to say or whatever, and twists to face January. The buzzer means nothing now. The freshmen have effectively been neutralized.

The slime makes her hands slip out from under her, but honestly, it was probably on purpose because she reaches up to grab the front of January's top and pull her close. "Might as well make it worth it."

The Varmints! (ง •̀෴•́)ง Do What They Do Best

What?? NO!!! How could Essie have POSSIBLY foreseen this ruse??? (Had Luxembourg even been a real place to begin with?!?) Nothing like this had EVER happened in the history of their games together!!!

Well, not EXACTLY like this!!!

Essie pushes through the sea of balls, dodging the sudden EARTHQUAKE as best she can, but not without a great deal more of squealing, which makes her the least sneaky wannabe shark ever as she circles around behind Jeffy.

It also means she isn't necessarily ACTUALLY behind Jeffy when she launches herself out of the balls again, using momentum and her finely honed toppling-Lucas-over skills to try to topple Jeffy over because apparently she's far less concerned with accidentally breaking her boyfriend's nose this close to prom than she ought to be. "Then I'll just smash YOU!!!" she hollers, making everything going on inside of the maze very confusing sounding to any poor students still waiting their turn.

It's also right at that moment that Mr. Merrill's statue has apparently had enough of their rough housing and a giant blue cloud erupts from it.

Titanic Panic

There's a ridiculous stutter in Iliya's chest at those last words, and he twists around to find Cameron in the process of slowly and dramatically expiring on the floor, surrounded by harmless Nerf darts.

"Carney, I am not carrying you," Iliya says. He's already forgotten their heist names. "And I do not think I can win without you. Literally, we are supposed to be a pair." He touches Cameron's hair with one hand, trying to look annoyed and utterly failing. God help him for finding Cameron Carney's dramatics endearing. "You cannot give up so soon."

Catwomen

Ari still has netting caught in her hair. She's not risking taking it off with shoddy charm-work. She can fix it later. Right now, they have a race to win.

"It better come out in the wash," she agrees, tugging Jade forward by the hand as she resumes their path through the maze. "I wasn't told to wear clothes I don't care about for this activity." Ari still thinks this is kind of an oxymoron, but at least she has her gym clothes and her school uniform to fall back on when the term comes up. Right now she's wearing one of her favorite blouses, and she'll kill Ocean herself if it's ruined forever.

"We'd better hurry," she says, checking her map as the walls shift again. They're getting close to the finish line.

The Varmints! (ง •̀෴•́)ง Do What They Do Best

Jeffy's center of gravity is a little different from the gangly Lucas, his sense of balance might be kind of better from years of trying to keep himself upright on a broom going [insert appropriate speed] MPH on a broom, but that doesn't mean he's completely prepared for an Essie missile attack. He stumbles forward and to the side, crashing to his knees in the pit. He's about to start on an epic near death sequence, a losing fight against Eszilla, determined to smash Jeffy Jaws, Protector of Luxembourg, when he hears a distinctive sound that can really only be the sound of gas escaping from the mouth of a statue that looks like your Head of House.

Yeah, literally nothing else.

"Uhhhhh," Jeffy says, arms held awkwardly aloft. "MAYBE smashing can resume... somewhere ELSE in the maze??"

Cameron clearly isn't worried about getting up off the floor so that they can make better time through the maze. After all, they don't want to win, so there should be plenty of time for silliness, right? He's still on his knees, but slowly sinking to the floor like melting ice cream. "Alas," he says, taking Iliya's hand. "To die, to sleep, perchance to dream, for in that sleep of death, what dreams may come?" Cameron can be a good actor when he puts his mind to it, but for now, he's putting his mind to the soap opera type of melodrama where the dying just won't go ahead and die. "Do not cry for me. With luck, I might dream of you. But, perhaps with a kiss," he says, still sinking slowly backwards in a way that takes a lot more core muscle strength than he anticipated, "I might find the strength to go on..." He grip his chest with his free hand and wheezes, just so his partner in crime knows that he's not long for this world.

Iliya presses his lips together in that way that makes it's obvious he's fighting to not smile. Ridiculous.

"I have never heard of a Healer recommending a kiss." But he ends up crouching down beside Cameron, because he has Iliya's hand in his grip and their arms aren't that long. Iliya watches Cameron carry on for a bit, just long enough to get his facial expressions back under control. "That was very stupid, what you did." Still deadpan, he leans in, and brushes a kiss against Cameron's forehead. "Next time I am about to die, you had better not jump in."
