MEXICO

MEXICO

The wedding guests have all been expected to arrange beforehand with a representative of the Ramirez estate regarding when they plan to arrive, or if it's with Rafael or Reece themselves. If they're arriving later, a time and place will be scheduled where a man or woman in fashionable business attire greets them, and directs them to a portkey, which will deposit them outside of where they will be staying.

The home that has been lent to Rafael and his friends is jaw-droppingly huge and elaborate. There are enough rooms for everyone to have their own space, and Anita Ramirez seems mildly distressed that her initial plans to have a girls wing and and boys wing isn't going to work out as chastely as she planned. Still, she greets the teenagers with graceful poise, and assures them that she'll have someone check in on them from time to time. (Is that a warning or...?)

But now you're at liberty to explore the home, and Mexico at large. Anyone who arrives before the wedding itself is invited to stay busy enjoying a free vacation in Mexico with one obscenely wealthy teen as their host.

The house is three stories, with plenty of bedrooms, sitting rooms, balconies, dining rooms and bathrooms. And, of course, a pool. The kitchen is fully stocked, and there's alcohol available, although Rafael initially seems anxious about getting into it. Apparently his parents gave him a talk about not being a wanton lush this vacation. (But what they don't know can't hurt them, right?) There are also two friendly maids who come by and keep the place clean, in addition to two house elves. No one will need to lift a finger this week.

SCHEDULE
  • Monday the 20th: First arrivals.

  • Tuesday the 21st through Thursday the 23: Being tourists.

  • Friday the 24th: The bachelor party.

  • Saturday the 25th: The wedding.

  • Sunday the 26th: Going home.

» The house: Explore the mansion that you're staying in, enjoy the luxurious rooms, take a dip in the pool. Rafael explains in an offhanded manner that this is not the house he grew up in, so none of you need to worry about making out in his old childhood bedroom.

» the beach: While the mansion is not directly on the beach (it's actually surrounded by fragrant, lush greenery), it's only a small walk down a cobbled street to the beach. Along the way you pass a patisserie ran by an old witch and wizard. They speak enough English to make purchasing treats or breakfast here easy for non-Spanish speakers. Photographers are sometimes seen in the area, particularly after a visit from Rafael's parents, but otherwise their interest in Rafael himself is mild.

» being tourists: In the days leading up to the wedding, Rafael is excited to show his friends Mexico, and let them indulge in their vacation like tourists without a budget. Feel free to make up other activities, but few spots of note are:
  • Uxmal. Beautiful ruins in the middle of the jungle.

  • Xel-Há. An "aquatic water park." Swimming, snorkelling, cliff jumping, animals, tubing down natural rivers.

  • The historic center of Mexico City. Architecture and museums.

  • Clubbing. Rafael can go to one (1) club without getting in trouble. Everyone else is welcome to enjoy the nightlife more than that if they like.

» The bachelor party: Ricardo does nothing by halves. Everyone's invited to the bachelor party, where there will be dancers, live music, and lots of alcohol. No one is carding Rafael or his friends. The bachelor party is taking place on a private beach that's being watched carefully. There are a few tough looking wizards and witches keeping an especially close eye on Rafael and his guests. Thanks, mom and dad.

» the wedding: The wedding is taking place at a luxury hotel that is partially left in ruin for that slightly decayed, antique look that the Ramirez family seems to like so much. Press are present, snapping photos and writing eagerly about the ceremony. Afterwards there's a reception that's much looser, and the press are not allowed in. There's an open bar, and no one's getting carded.

Usually the words "drinking game" has Ravi putting up his hands and saying thanks but no thanks. But this is a bachelor party with some of his favourite people in school, and he feels like he missed out a little by arriving after everyone else. He takes a seat at the table.

Diego props his chin on his hand and looks at Ravi. "In your opinion, what is the nerdiest thing you've ever done?"

Ravi looks back at him, aghast, because Diego knows the nerdiest thing he's ever done. Unless Diego means the nerdiest thing he's ever done which did not directly involve another person, in which case... Yes. Alright. That's fair.

It takes him a moment. "Um... last year, I recreated Legolas' costume from The Lord of the Rings movies, including his belts and bracers and everything. It wasn't even for LARP or Halloween, I just... wanted to do it." He looks slightly ashamed. "I made it my Magical Rudiments project and convinced Prospero to help me."

Danger, danger, danger, indeed. Ravi doesn't even bother trying to answer this one. "Absolutely not." He takes the shot.

"Ah, well, I broke my tooth by climbing a tree..." Ravi stops, and thinks about it. He did get in trouble for that, but it seems like such a silly story, all things considered. What else is there? He never stole anything. Never fought anyone else. Never destroyed something in a fit of boyish enthusiasm...

Oh. "When I was six, my sister and I ran away from home because we didn't want to move to America. Our plan was to take the bus to see my aunt... but then we got hopelessly lost. We were actually gone for the better part of the day."

That makes Leo smile. The very little he's had to drink is already loosening him up enough to be kind and say, "We're all very glad you made it back, and came to America after all. Do you know where you ended up?"
