MEXICO

MEXICO

The wedding guests have all been expected to arrange beforehand with a representative of the Ramirez estate regarding when they plan to arrive, or if it's with Rafael or Reece themselves. If they're arriving later, a time and place will be scheduled where a man or woman in fashionable business attire greets them, and directs them to a portkey, which will deposit them outside of where they will be staying.

The home that has been lent to Rafael and his friends is jaw-droppingly huge and elaborate. There are enough rooms for everyone to have their own space, and Anita Ramirez seems mildly distressed that her initial plans to have a girls wing and and boys wing isn't going to work out as chastely as she planned. Still, she greets the teenagers with graceful poise, and assures them that she'll have someone check in on them from time to time. (Is that a warning or...?)

But now you're at liberty to explore the home, and Mexico at large. Anyone who arrives before the wedding itself is invited to stay busy enjoying a free vacation in Mexico with one obscenely wealthy teen as their host.

The house is three stories, with plenty of bedrooms, sitting rooms, balconies, dining rooms and bathrooms. And, of course, a pool. The kitchen is fully stocked, and there's alcohol available, although Rafael initially seems anxious about getting into it. Apparently his parents gave him a talk about not being a wanton lush this vacation. (But what they don't know can't hurt them, right?) There are also two friendly maids who come by and keep the place clean, in addition to two house elves. No one will need to lift a finger this week.

SCHEDULE
  • Monday the 20th: First arrivals.

  • Tuesday the 21st through Thursday the 23: Being tourists.

  • Friday the 24th: The bachelor party.

  • Saturday the 25th: The wedding.

  • Sunday the 26th: Going home.

» The house: Explore the mansion that you're staying in, enjoy the luxurious rooms, take a dip in the pool. Rafael explains in an offhanded manner that this is not the house he grew up in, so none of you need to worry about making out in his old childhood bedroom.

» the beach: While the mansion is not directly on the beach (it's actually surrounded by fragrant, lush greenery), it's only a small walk down a cobbled street to the beach. Along the way you pass a patisserie ran by an old witch and wizard. They speak enough English to make purchasing treats or breakfast here easy for non-Spanish speakers. Photographers are sometimes seen in the area, particularly after a visit from Rafael's parents, but otherwise their interest in Rafael himself is mild.

» being tourists: In the days leading up to the wedding, Rafael is excited to show his friends Mexico, and let them indulge in their vacation like tourists without a budget. Feel free to make up other activities, but few spots of note are:
  • Uxmal. Beautiful ruins in the middle of the jungle.

  • Xel-Há. An "aquatic water park." Swimming, snorkelling, cliff jumping, animals, tubing down natural rivers.

  • The historic center of Mexico City. Architecture and museums.

  • Clubbing. Rafael can go to one (1) club without getting in trouble. Everyone else is welcome to enjoy the nightlife more than that if they like.

» The bachelor party: Ricardo does nothing by halves. Everyone's invited to the bachelor party, where there will be dancers, live music, and lots of alcohol. No one is carding Rafael or his friends. The bachelor party is taking place on a private beach that's being watched carefully. There are a few tough looking wizards and witches keeping an especially close eye on Rafael and his guests. Thanks, mom and dad.

» the wedding: The wedding is taking place at a luxury hotel that is partially left in ruin for that slightly decayed, antique look that the Ramirez family seems to like so much. Press are present, snapping photos and writing eagerly about the ceremony. Afterwards there's a reception that's much looser, and the press are not allowed in. There's an open bar, and no one's getting carded.

FRIDAY MORNING - Quinn & Ty

Honestly? Quinn doesn't mind the rambling about languages. At all. Given how often she rants about Healer applications, or the latest artificing snafu, or the Leafs(, or...), Ty's usually content to listen and ask questions; but instead of dance or Cheer, maybe sometimes she dominates the conversation? So, learning about this Mermish passage she totally doesn't understand as well as she's letting on—yes, she's totally into this.

She mutters "No," and knocks his foot affectionately with her own when he mentions shutting up, but mostly she's noting the dropping of hands, the uncomfortable shuffling of hair, how much she'd like to reach out and pat it all back into place. But what he says next confuses her. She's been on edge since she handed him the gift—no, since she wrote the note for the gift last night—because, as much as she told herself 'It's just a word,' she knew she was taking a risk. If anything, though, calculated risks are kind of Quinn's modus operandi; so she crosses her arms and tries as hard as she can, as hard as she has been doing, to just act natural. "Are you talking about the threat, or my stepping on your feet?" Because this is Quinn, and trying to deflect the awkwardness she feels with humour is second nature.

Despite what she may look like to the unseasoned observer, her stomach's churning. Her palms are sweaty. She's fifty percent sure she's about to find out that she made a very, very big mistake. Otherwise, why would they have been so obviously dancing around the issue?

Fuck. She should never have written it. 'Warmest regards' is a perfectly acceptable way to sign off a letter.

FRIDAY MORNING - Quinn & Ty

Despite the tension of the moment, Ty is still Ty. The affectionate little kick makes him laugh and the quip makes him look at his girlfriend with a 'well played' smile written all over his face. "All of it," he reiterates brightly before stepping closer to Quinn and reaching for her hand again. His expression softens, though, as he searches for the right words. The right...anything. He really doesn't know what he's doing.

"I...like knowing that I'm the guy that can make things better for you just by being around. Because I always want to be around you. And knowing that someone as amazing as you can see all of that good in me makes me think it might actually be there. And..." His words are definitely failing him. Instead, abruptly, he leans in and presses a deep but gentle kiss to her lips. And this seems to steady him. Enough that, when he's just barely drawn back, he manages to murmur, "...I love you, Quinn."

FRIDAY MORNING - Quinn & Ty

Resting her forehead against Ty's, Quinn lays her other hand on the nape of his neck to pull him closer. "Me too," she replies quietly, and although it's supposed to carry the significance of the moment, she realizes... that makes no sense. There's a reason that Quinn usually opts to share her stronger emotions in writing and with few degrees of separation, delivered by owl or left on a desk: she's... not exactly the most apt at discussing such things in the moment, even when she wants to—like right now, with the boy that she's come to realize that she loves standing in front of her and telling her the same thing.

"I mean, yes, I agree– ah, fuck this." She kisses Ty, trying to keep it soft despite letting her lips linger on his longer than is necessary (or appropriate, probably). When she pulls away her heart's no longer trying to break out of her chest and make it on its own, and she can think a little more clearly. She realizes she's basically mirrored what he did, and gives a small, sheepish laugh. "I love you, too... but you figured that one out, huh?"

This awkward verbal stumbling earns a small laugh from Ty, but it's more a sound of relief than amusement. Because, no matter how she's saying it, she feels the same way he does and he hadn't misunderstood her after all. The kiss cuts the sound off abruptly and he presses his lips into hers with obvious enthusiasm. He's a little breathless and a little flushed by the time Quinn draws away, but obviously elated, and moves to touch her cheek almost immediately.

"I may have guessed," he teases fondly, looking at her with renewed adoration and affection. The girl he loves and the girl that loves him. And isn't that surreal?
