AMNESIA BUG

It's a somewhat dreary morning, with a light, misty rain all across campus. It's business as usual, though, except... some students are acting particularly forgetful today.

HOW THIS WORKS

• Full symptoms will have set in by 11:30 AM. You can decide exactly when and how quickly your character is hit with the amnesia bug, i.e. from the time they wake up, or later in the morning.


• Your characters have two brief windows in which to do amnesia things around campus: 7 AM-12 PM, before Mufferaw is certain what's happening, and 5:00-5:45 PM when there's a brief breakout.


• Teachers are on high alert to make sure that none of the affected students are hurt or otherwise taken advantage of. They'll break up any canoodling that's not between people they know are a couple, and there will be no opportunities to have sex. Please just use this as your blanket OOC safety net: Staff will save your character from doing anything you don't want them to do.


• Characters will be allowed to keep their journals while in quarantine.


• They'll all be given a cure before bed.


• Everyone affected is spending the night in the lodge.


• In the morning, they'll wake up with all of their memories intact, including memories of what they did Saturday.


• Memory loss is entirely defined by you. You do what works best for your character. It does not need to be consistent across characters.


• However, the bug does not create new memories. Your character will not think they're a different person unless some outside influence successfully convinces them. And they'd need to be, like, ridiculously gullible.


• Similarly, it does not take away skills, although your character may forget they have them. For instance, they might forget they can speak another language, but they still have the ability. No one will forget how to walk, talk, etc.

» symptoms set in: When the infected wake up, they feel a little off. Forgetful. Small details escape them. Their short and long term memories are spotty. By 11:30 AM it's clear it's yet another plague, and everyone is going to enjoy another classic Gooseberry Quarantine.

» the lodge: quarantine: It's not long before all the infected students are gathered up by staff, and everyone's in quarantine by 12 PM. Because the infection is really more of a mild magical curse, it's easy to tell who's got it and who doesn't with a quick detection spell.

• » the lodge: the infirmary: This is where Mufferaw would prefer you all be so he can keep an eye on you, but he can't entertain dozens of energetic teenagers in here.


• » the lodge: the atrium: A portion of the atrium has been cordoned off, and the amnesiacs can access the Wii, the TV and the ping-pong table. Their friends can come visit them, but there's always a teacher on guard to make sure no one picks on the forgetful kids.

» breakout: After several hours locked in the lodge, Rafael "Definitely Not a Prefect" Ramirez gets impatient enough to stage a breakout. He waits until Healer Mufferaw takes a break and is replaced by Ms. Whittle, and then sends a freshmen to go ask her what Star Trek is. After that, he leads a number of interested students to the sole balcony they have access to, and reveals there's a rarely used fire escape that leads down to the shore.

• If your character escapes: You have about 45 minutes of freedom before the teachers track everyone down again. Because no one's in their right mind, they won't give detention, but oh my god you're all so difficult.


• For our sanity and everyone's comfort, if you plan on having anything uniquely bad happen to your character, please privately run it by the mods first. And let's just say everyone's too busy scattering and running to get up to any accidental amnesia cheating, hm?

» the next morning: remembering: Everyone wakes up Sunday morning feeling a little bleary. All of their memories are back, as well as the memories of how they behaved yesterday.

Confused Goofasses at the Ornery Oak

Ennis... has no fucking clue what's going on, but he doesn't mind it. Someone started drawing a map and he's already learned a lot from this helpful fellow: for one, he knows that his name is Harper. Ennis Harper, though Ennis may be some sort of title.

The "GOOSEBERRY HIGH" oversized shirt he woke up in isn't referencing a hallucinogenic fruit. It's the name of this small Wizarding village that also shares a name with a school here. He may have already been inside the school house when he trailed behind a group of people into a large building this morning and followed their lead to acquire food. He recalls a lot of rooms there and too many people for it to be someone's home.

Maybe this whole town is also a school? It's been a very educational experience so far. He hopes to find out more from these people who seemed to recognize him over the journals. ... If they haven't mistaken him for the wrong person, that is.

Approaching his Senior year now, Ennis looks a fair bit different from his awkward in-between stage at Hogwarts and the weird little pupa he started out as before puberty hit him like a sack of bricks. His floppy blonde hair is pushed back and out of his face, there's a bit of scruff along his jaw, and his black-framed glasses already have a smudge on them. It's hard to tell if he's going for effortlessly cool or just lazy. It looks like he just rolled out of bed and put some jeans on. Because he definitely just rolled out of bed and put some jeans on.

Ennis isn't sure what these people look like except that one of them has pink hair, so he just stands near-ish to the irate oak and looks from his journal, to the path, and back to his journal to read the flurry of responses filling up his page. Isn't that just neat??

Riley doesn't know why she's back at Gooseberry, but she's back at Gooseberry now and she couldn't be HAPPIER. Yes, she knows exactly where the Ornery Oak is, it's just down the hill from AZURCREST where everyone is PERFECT and not HORRIBLE TO HER. And even though she doesn't want to go back to dumb stupid Hogwarts, she guesses they should figure out what's going on so she can figure out how to make sure she can stay here.

Skipping down the trail, Riley skids to a halt when she sees Ennis! Her only friend at school!! Thank GOD he's here!!

"En!!" she squeals and runs up to throw her arms around his neck. "Is my head bleeding???"

Dimi is writing feverishly in his journal as he walks, trekking back the way he came. Away from the Lodge and toward the Whomping Not-Willow. He's given up on the map, because this positively ridiculous notebook has exploded with commentary from unfamiliar hands, rendering it impossible to continue his cartography. How does anyone tolerate this? Is this Dark Magic? Certainly seems like it.

How are you going to fix this, Dimi Evercreech? Because, of course, you have to be the one to fix this. That's what heroes do.

He spots someone who looks like Ennis Harper's older, slightly cooler also slightly less adorable brother. And then Riley Stamper, sporting pink hair today, as warned. He quirks his head to the side. This is all so very, very odd.

"Harper? Stamper?" He asks as he approaches them. "You look, er, different. Both of you."

Ennis doesn't recognize either of these fucks, but their presence makes his heart feel warm and fuzzy and that's definitely a good sign. He closes his journal and lightly tosses it in the grass beside him before opening his arms to catch Riley. He briefly swings her to and fro before setting her back down and tilting her head forward and lightly brushing his fingers through her hair to inspect for wounds. "No, you're fine," he concludes in a soft tone, angling her face toward him to study her features. Her presence feels familiar and comforting, but her face doesn't register.

He withdraws his hands and looks toward Dimi. "Hello!" he greets warmly, followed by a stilted, "Evercreech." Process of elimination. He is Harper, the pink one is Stamper. "Thank you for the map! It helps a lot." He cants his head, "-- Did you bump your head too? Are you okay?"

Riley jumps slightly when she hears the voice behind her, but her heart rate slows again when she turns around. Right, right, it's the Evercreech! Nothing to worry about!! And yet she still has a light hold on Ennis' arm when she turns around.

"I'm not bleeding!" she announces. "Are you bleeding?? We should make sure no one's bleeding."

"Glad you're both all right." Dimi sighs, momentarily pushing past the fact that neither one looks completely as they should. He rubs the his temples. "No blood. Although I do have a splitting headache. It might have something to do with how we found ourselves here?"

He looks up at the ornery oak, exasperated with the day's events already, "Neither of you knows what's going on at all, right? It sounds like a small army of people is coming this way, at least, so I'm sure I can get us some answers eventually."

Ennis rests his hand hand over Riley's one on his arm and gives it a reassuring patpat. He shakes his head in response to both their inquires. "Not bleeding... I'm also not certain what's going on, or..." He hesitates, uncertain if he should reveal that he is not the Harper they knew. Ennis feels much like an alien wearing a human disguise, trying to blend in and navigate this world using clues he learns from his interactions. But he's already revealed too much over the journals, he might as well fess up. "-- Where I am. It feels as though I have just come into existence a few hours ago."

He holds up a hand, as if to halt them from dismissing him just yet. "Ah-- but I will help you both any way I can! If anything, I may be able to brew something for that headache. Now, are we waiting here for this small army to arrive? They seemed hostile." His lips twist into a wry grin as he delivers some very Ennis-like sass, "Unless you wish to fight him, Damon Evercreech?"
