AMNESIA BUG

It's a somewhat dreary morning, with a light, misty rain all across campus. It's business as usual, though, except... some students are acting particularly forgetful today.

HOW THIS WORKS

• Full symptoms will have set in by 11:30 AM. You can decide exactly when and how quickly your character is hit with the amnesia bug, i.e. from the time they wake up, or later in the morning.


• Your characters have two brief windows in which to do amnesia things around campus: 7 AM-12 PM, before Mufferaw is certain what's happening, and 5:00-5:45 PM when there's a brief breakout.


• Teachers are on high alert to make sure that none of the affected students are hurt or otherwise taken advantage of. They'll break up any canoodling that's not between people they know are a couple, and there will be no opportunities to have sex. Please just use this as your blanket OOC safety net: Staff will save your character from doing anything you don't want them to do.


• Characters will be allowed to keep their journals while in quarantine.


• They'll all be given a cure before bed.


• Everyone affected is spending the night in the lodge.


• In the morning, they'll wake up with all of their memories intact, including memories of what they did Saturday.


• Memory loss is entirely defined by you. You do what works best for your character. It does not need to be consistent across characters.


• However, the bug does not create new memories. Your character will not think they're a different person unless some outside influence successfully convinces them. And they'd need to be, like, ridiculously gullible.


• Similarly, it does not take away skills, although your character may forget they have them. For instance, they might forget they can speak another language, but they still have the ability. No one will forget how to walk, talk, etc.

» symptoms set in: When the infected wake up, they feel a little off. Forgetful. Small details escape them. Their short and long term memories are spotty. By 11:30 AM it's clear it's yet another plague, and everyone is going to enjoy another classic Gooseberry Quarantine.

» the lodge: quarantine: It's not long before all the infected students are gathered up by staff, and everyone's in quarantine by 12 PM. Because the infection is really more of a mild magical curse, it's easy to tell who's got it and who doesn't with a quick detection spell.

• » the lodge: the infirmary: This is where Mufferaw would prefer you all be so he can keep an eye on you, but he can't entertain dozens of energetic teenagers in here.


• » the lodge: the atrium: A portion of the atrium has been cordoned off, and the amnesiacs can access the Wii, the TV and the ping-pong table. Their friends can come visit them, but there's always a teacher on guard to make sure no one picks on the forgetful kids.

» breakout: After several hours locked in the lodge, Rafael "Definitely Not a Prefect" Ramirez gets impatient enough to stage a breakout. He waits until Healer Mufferaw takes a break and is replaced by Ms. Whittle, and then sends a freshmen to go ask her what Star Trek is. After that, he leads a number of interested students to the sole balcony they have access to, and reveals there's a rarely used fire escape that leads down to the shore.

• If your character escapes: You have about 45 minutes of freedom before the teachers track everyone down again. Because no one's in their right mind, they won't give detention, but oh my god you're all so difficult.


• For our sanity and everyone's comfort, if you plan on having anything uniquely bad happen to your character, please privately run it by the mods first. And let's just say everyone's too busy scattering and running to get up to any accidental amnesia cheating, hm?

» the next morning: remembering: Everyone wakes up Sunday morning feeling a little bleary. All of their memories are back, as well as the memories of how they behaved yesterday.

Levi swings a leg over the side and takes a seat behind him, sliding up as close as he can to the other boy and looping his arms around his middle. Cecil's much larger than any of the other boys he's given these lessons to and it doesn't have quite the same swoon-worthy effect when he can't protectively envelop him and it feels more like he's jet-packing him, but Levi can work with it.

"Oh, I won't," he impishly replies, resting his chin on Cecil's broad shoulder to see over him. Oh, wow, and he even smells good. "Is this okay? When you're ready, just push off."

Cecil blushes faintly and smiles to himself, both because he likes the feeling of Levi pressed close with his arms around him and because it's bit ridiculous that he's blushing at something like this. After all, the two of them have been in far more intimate situations. But...this is different and it feels special for a reason he can't quite put his finger on. "This is perfect," he assures the other boy, touching his hand briefly before focusing on task in front of him.

Carefully, he pushes off, sending the broom a few feet up into the air and into a leisurely glide. It's like Levi said: start slow. While he has done this before, he's out of practice, and the broom wobbles a little before he manages to steady it.

Ohoho, it's not just okay, it's perfect!!! That, and the brief yet intimate touch to his hand confirms his Big Fat Crush theory but also raises the question: is there something more going on here? The Cecil he knows is shy, and Levi likes shy, and this Cecil is also blushing, but there seems to be no reluctance or bashful uncertainty behind his more tender gestures.

What is their relationship?

Before he can ponder further, the broom begins to wobble and he breaks their "deal" as a chuckle slips from him. Oh well. He uses it as an excuse to hug him tighter.

"That's totally normal when you're getting the hang of it. You're doing good," he tries to reassure him, then offers, "Try not to focus on the broom and how strange it feels, or you'll want to overcompensate to correct the motions. Instead, try focusing on a fixed point as your destination." He lifts a hand and points toward a cluster of trees up the path. "Keep your eye focused on those trees, and lean forward slightly when you want to pick up speed."

Hearing the light laugh from behind him, Cecil's blush deepens but he's still smiling as he calls back a playful accusation, "Liar!" Still, that doesn't change the fact that he's beaming, because he's flying for the first time in years and because following his boyfriend's advice (shifting his focus from the broom to the distant trees) steadies them almost immediately. It's all exhilarating. He hesitates for several moments, then leans forward a little, prompting the broom to move more swiftly through the air. Even if they're still not very far off the ground.

The accusation only causes more laughter to bubble from him and he sing-songs a very unapologetic, "So-rry~!" in response.

Levi leans forward as Cecil does, resting his chin on his back now as he beams at the sight ahead. "Yes! Yes!! You're getting it!" he cheers, "You can pull up slightly on the handle and upright yourself whenever you wanna to stop. Make sure you have your feet down to touch the ground for the landing."

Cecil can't help laughing too and he calls back cheerfully, with obvious affection, "No you're not!"

He acknowledges that he's heard the instructions about how to slow down and how to land with a small nod. But he isn't actually ready to do either. Emboldened by Levi's presence and encouragement, he instead asks, "Can we go higher first? Just a little?" His heart is starting to beat very hard now and there's an eager quality to his voice at the prospect. He really can't imagine why he's put this off for so long.

"We can do anything your heart desires," he tells him, upping the stakes by making an obvious pass at him now. There's some undeniable chemistry going on here that Levi just can't deny. If he swaps bodies and timelines back with Future Levi any time soon, he considers this doing his future self a favor. Cecil Honeychurch is top-tier and passing up an opportunity to smooch him when he's clearly open to be smooched should be a crime.

"Lean with the broom and guide it upward until you reach the height you like, then level it again. Remember to focus on a fixed point~!"

Cecil blushes more deeply at that and has to resist the urge to glance over his shoulder at Levi. Instead, he follows this advice, gradually guiding the broom higher and taking on more speed. The lesson goes on like this for a while, with the pair exchanging banter as Levi gives instructions and Cecil does as he's told as well as he can. Gradually, he stops overthinking everything and the pair get high enough to touch the tops of the tall trees and move quickly enough not to completely bore an experienced Quidditch player. It's quite a morning! At least for Cecil.

Eventually, though, it's time to land. Cecil manages this fairly smoothly, slowing the broom and drifting down and catching them both on legs that have gone a little rubbery. He stumbles, steadies, and looks back at Levi, laughing brightly and breathlessly, "Well....we made it!"

Levi lowers his legs to try to help with the landing and braces Cecil as he stumbles. "Weak in the knees already?" he teases flirtatiously as he rests his chin on his shoulder again, arms still wrapped around the other boy despite their feet being firmly planted on the ground now. Levi thinks he's being so smooth, especially when he turns his head to murmur into Cecil's ear. "You are, without a doubt, the best student I've ever had."

Finally, he loosens his grip and swings a leg over to dismount before offering out a hand to ""help"" Cecil with his balance. "Such a quick learner," he continues to praise, "So handsome, too. Are you doing anything after this?"

Cecil doesn't mind the teasing and he definitely doesn't mind the entirely unnecessary embrace or the fact that he can feel Levi's breath as he whispers into his ear. Though, the latter does deepen the color in his cheeks. "That can't possibly be true," he returns quietly, simultaneously embarrassed and amused and charmed by his flirt of a boyfriend.

When Levi climbs off the broom, he follows and takes the other boy's hand, continuing to hold it even once he's back on his feet. He squeezes it fondly, but can't reply immediately under this barrage of compliments. Instead, he looks away and shakes his head. Then, grateful for the question, he lifts his eyes again and reaches for Levi's other hand and smiles. "Well," he says playfully, "Apart from thanking you? ...I was hoping that you might have some time before practice. Just to go back to the cabin for a while. Relax, talk about what a wonderful teacher you are, see Uric? I don't know. Just spend some time together."

Oh, right, practice. Wait-- Who the fuck is Uric? Did they get a new roommate? Is that an exchange student? Why does Cecil want them to see him? Senior Levi should know these answers and he has enough sense not to ask and blow his cover. Uric is probably not Cecil's boyfriend or else they wouldn't be holding hands like this. Unless there's some poly thing going on, but that doesn't really seem Cecil's style. Maybe. Probably.

... Or, more likely, Cecil's just not picking up what he's putting down. He's gotta be more direct! Levi locks eyes with Cecil as he brings his hand to his lips and presses a kiss to his knuckles. "I have all the time for you before practice." -- Shit, what time is that scheduled this year? WHATEVER, he'll figure it out later!-- "But I was hoping you might want to spend it with me... alone?"

This prompts a soft but genuinely surprised and genuinely amused laugh from Cecil. "I didn't realize the cat would cramp your style," he says, his tone warm but just a little shy because he's beginning to wonder just what Levi actually has in mind. But he's not unwilling. He moves to press a kiss, gentle but nevertheless eager, to the other boy's lips and asks quietly as he draws back, "What were you thinking, then?"

Levi can't help but let out a laugh. Uric is a cat. He hadn't realized Cecil had gotten himself a cat, but now he does remember there being a kitten in the cabin in addition to Sylvain. Duh, Levi.

The kiss, though, takes him by surprise. Cecil is definitely picking up what he's putting down, no doubt about it, and Levi's pleasantly surprised by how bold Cecil Honeychurch has become. But he receives that message loud and clear and when Cecil pulls back from the kiss, Levi is left starry-eyed and dazed.

It's a simple kiss, one that the couple shares several times throughout the day everyday without much thought, and yet this is the first one that Levi can remember. It's... their first kiss!! His first time kissing Cecil Honeychurch!!! He goes from dazed, to giddy, then-- Oh, fuck, Cecil thinks he hates his cat.

"No, I love cats!" he tries to backpedal, as if poor, sweet, innocent Uric the Kitten wasn't the one he was trying to avoid seeing, "They're totally my style." He squeezes his prefect's hands in his gloved ones and returns his kiss with an eager one of his own, withdrawing his hands to rest on Cecil's hips instead. "I was just thinking about, like, if our roommates are still in the cabin." Another kiss, to his jaw. "But we can draw the curtains." Another kiss, to his neck. "You're so cute, I'd kiss you until practice if I could."

Honestly, fuck practice if it means he gets to make out with a cute boy from the future. Future Levi would understand.

This strikes Cecil as a peculiar thing for Levi to say. Of course, Levi likes cats. Adopting Uric had been his idea and the two of them have spent hours doting over and playing with and indignantly gushing about how cute the kitten is. A hint of confusion surfaces in his expression and he looks like he's about to say something when the other boy kisses his jaw. And then his neck. He exhales a soft breath and steps a little closer...but he still can't quite let it go. Because he's been acting a little strange all morning and he feels less familiar somehow. This is just bringing that sense into focus.

Gently, he touches Levi's cheek, attempting to coax the other boy into looking at him. "Yeah. Yeah, we can. But..." Now that he's on the verge of the question, he feels foolish. He can't even describe what's different or what's giving him pause when all he really wants to do is be with Levi. His lips thin and this uncertainty shows before he asks quietly, "Are you okay, Levi? You just seem..."

The touch to his cheek instead of, say, the back of his neck is taken as a sign to yield and Levi pulls back to gauge Cecil's reaction. That uncertain expression is telling enough: he knows something's up. Cecil's not drawing back and the ease in which he's accepted and returned these kisses and touches suggests that he may be intimately familiar with these sorts of gestures from Levi. They've kissed before. Maybe more.

Cecil knows. He may not know what is wrong, but he knows that something's...

"Different?" he finishes for him, expression turning somewhat sheepish. "You know me well, don't you?" It's both a statement of endearment and a genuine inquiry. "Well, you were gonna find out soon enough so I'll tell you anyway--" Levi takes a deep breath as if he's about to reveal something Big and Important and an experience that's unique only to him, "I've been transported to the Future for some unknown cause. ... Or maybe Future Me has been transported back to the past for a wayyy more important reason and I've just swapped consciousness with my Future Self for convenience and I'm just supposed to fuck around here until he's done." A pause. "... Or, like, this is an elaborate dream sequence where I'm imagining a way hot future version of you who's totally receptive to my flirtations but is still taller than me for some reason."

Cecil...just stares. And blinks. And stares some more. This seems like it must be a joke but Levi doesn't look like he's joking with that sheepish expression and after he takes that big preparing-to-drop-a-bombshell breath. Slowly, he lowers his hand. He doesn't step back, though, and the confused expression on his face deepens into genuine concern. "Of course I 'know you well'. I..."

He shakes his head. He doesn't know what to think of this, but he knows that the other boy is confused. And that there's a lot he doesn't remember. And that something's wrong. He lowers his eyes for a moment, trying to ignore the sudden pang of hurt so he can focus. "I think," he says finally, "That we need to take you to Healer Mufferaw. Okay?"

Levi doesn't know what sort of reaction he was expecting from Cecil with that reveal. He can see the shift in the other boy's expression and he can't blame him for thinking Levi's off his rocker and in need of a Healer.

"Cecil Honeychurch, you're such a Good Boy," he coos fondly, rubbing a finger against the worried crease between his brows to tease. It's a gesture Cecil should be familiar with, but it feels all new to Levi. "I'll go after I put my Quidditch gear up and grab a shower, okay?" He just wants to delay it, to give Future Levi more time to correct the past before the staff discover his time travelling plans. "And maybe we can eat lunch together, and then I can go?"

The touch is something that Cecil recognizes, but he's not certain how to feel about it now. Not coming from this Levi. He looks up, still visibly worried and uncertain. But he can't force the other boy to do something he doesn't want to do without going to a prefect or directly to Healer Mufferaw himself and he's been fine all this time. So.

"Promise?" he asks quietly. Even if the other boy doesn't know everything that's happened, they've been friends for a long time and that's all he needs to trust that Levi will stick to this plan.

Levi has only known Cecil for a few months at most and he likes the guy well enough, but harbors no strong sense of loyalty toward him. Still, he needs an ally in this future and there's no sense in betraying his trust this early in the game while Levi still has no clue why he's here or how long he's here for. It could be a day, it could be months; he needs to establish a good rapport.

He holds up a pinkie finger, grinning impishly. "Promise! But only if you promise not to tell on me. Nobody can know I'm a time traveler, okay? It'll be our secret for now."

Levi & Cecil

A promise would mean something to Cecil, though, and he hesitates. Even if it is just a pinkie swear. "Do you...really think that's what's going on?" he asks quietly. Because it seems far more likely to him that Levi was exposed to some sort of charm or magical malady or that he hit his head or...something. And such possibilities make it impossible not to worry.

When Levi realizes he's not getting his pinkie promise the second he asks for it, he lowers his hand and that impish grin fades. "I dunno, I just woke up like this. I thought I'd just kind of wait it out and see what happens." He hasn't even touched the journals yet and hasn't really bumped into anyone else this morning to witness their odd behavior. As far as he knows, he's a special and unique creature. The only one this is happening to. But he's super laissez-faire about it; he figures whatever's happening is Future Levi's problem to deal with, not his.

"I'll go to the Healer later, okay? I've got a whole list of things I wanna do and learn about before they lock me away in the nuthouse. Like..." Okay, Levi, what can you stall with? "You got a cat, right? That kitten is yours? Do you still have the bees?"

Cecil considers this, not knowing what it might mean that Levi had gone to sleep normal and woken up months (or years?) out of sync with the person he'd been the day before. Nothing good, probably. But he doesn't have much time to think about it before he's tensing and frowning earnestly at the other boy. "Nobody is going to put you in a nuthouse. You're fine. There's just something...odd going on. Just another week at Gooseberry." Unable to help himself, feeling protective and wanting to reassure Levi, he takes his hands again, "Okay?"

This leaves him entirely unable to push his not-quite-boyfriend, though. "Later's....fine. After lunch is fine," he adds, slowly letting go of his hands and looking a little uncomfortable. "Uric is ours. Mostly yours. The kitten, I mean. But, yeah, I've still got the bees."

Waitwaitwait, hold up.

"Ours?" he asks, looking back up the path to the cabin before swiveling his head back to Cecil. "Like, a cabin pet or...?" He gestures between the two of them. "Are we co-parenting? Is it like a daddy-daddy thing?"

That...might've been a misstep. Cecil hesitates, not certain how much he should say and not knowing if being honest will make Levi uncomfortable. But he's a terrible liar and he can already feel heat rising in his cheeks that could be answer enough. He mimics the other boy's gesture, then says quietly, "Ours. Yours and mine. It's...something like that. 'Co-parenting'."

Levi's eyes scan Cecil's features, openly studying the shifts in his expressions as he considers the question. The color in his cheeks gives him away before he even answers, but when he does answer Levi doesn't seem to react negatively to it; there's a brief look of surprise that settles into smug satisfaction.

He knew there were tender feelings involved, but he didn't realize the scope of it. Co-parenting a cat with Cecil Honeychurch, Domestic God and All-Around Good Boy™.

"Sounds serious," he teases, reaching up to playfully tap a finger to Cecil's flushed cheek. Levi's completely unbothered and unconcerned by this notion, and even seems pleased by it. "Is he Uric Kramer, Uric Honeychurch, or did we hyphenate?"
