2nd September 2013

I'm in Ribbonfin! Which is brilliant because green is one of my favourite colours and everyone's been so nice in helping me get settled in my cabin. I'm not entirely sure I know my way around yet since my orientation was a bit disorientating but at least I got to see a lot of the woods! I love that the forest here isn't forbidden. That does mean it's safe, right?

Oh and I have a question for my fellow trouts --

wait do we call each other trouts? That doesn't sound very flattering.

I doubt anyone would be mad at you, it's just not what we do, is all.

Ha. Well, there are a few of us who have journals, so we're easy to grab if you want to check something. It's different enough when you're from a different state, so I imagine it's way worse when you've crossed continents.

Nah, you get used to them. Like, where I'm from is very urban, parts of it very working class and parts fancy, like a lot of big cities, you know? Then you've got people here at Gooseberry from very 'country' kind of states like Idaho and Wisconsin. So that's like everywhere, but each state has its own identity that people will definitely be happy to answer if you ask.

Yeah, just bigger. I bet the UK would fit into a lot of US states, which is kind of mindblowing.

I'm from Pennsylvania! Philadelphia, to be precise. It's the biggest city in the state, and there's a lot of history. It used to be the capital during the Revolutionary War and everything. We're right up in the North East.

I can imagine. I want to travel Europe some day.

Well, a whole bunch of our history is linked to the Brits and that's where Philly comes in. We kinda protected the rebels for a long time. And yeah, the Civil War is more popular for reenactments, but you see Revolutionary War people too. Mostly because people adore George Washington.
