PERUVIAN DARKNESS POWDER

Xavier Lewis gets a letter from a relative of theirs who has a mean sense of humor. When they open the envelope in the halls of the lodge, Peruvian Darkness Powder bursts out, blanketing the area in magical darkness! The inconvenience lasts an hour, and Lumos and Incendio don’t do anything to help.

Magdalen Gillis walks in with their friend, and grabs their friend’s hand so they don’t lose them… only to walk out and find they’re actually holding hands with Riley Stamper. How embarrassing.
Wyatt Winslow trips and crashes into Saira Raza in the darkness, and ends up banging their face against a wall and getting a bloody nose!
Joanna May is startled by Robin Youngblood who was creeping around in the darkness “singing” the Jaws theme.

HOW THIS WORKS

If you're looking to get hurt and go completely insane, have I got the place for you. New York's Hottest New Club is The Lodge But It's Dark For An Hour. Located in a giant magical log cabin in the woods of northern Utah, this place has everything: nosebleeds, darkness, gals being pals, 15-and-16-year-olds who haven't slept since last Thursday, my son and an intense feeling of dread for what the future holds. So come on down and grope around in the pitch while also possibly inhaling the same magical powder that's causing this predicament.

Lumos and Incendio do not work.

The fun begins roundabout lunchtime.

Have fun. Watch out for snakes.

The fingers suddenly touching his arm make Isaiah jump about a mile; he's never really okay with unexpected touches, and this is a new level of unexpected, but it's just Xavier so he makes himself refrain from shaking it off. "You say that like I have any idea what your sister is capable of." He pauses, considers. "I have a brother. But if he were to place some sort of substance in an envelope, I am almost certain it would be pot. And I know that pot doesn't kill you. Typically."

Satisfied that Isaiah is still there and has not suddenly become incorporeal, Xavier withdraws and, instead, turns and looks around at the inky black void. Whole 'lotta nothing. "Pretty sure this isn't pot." Xavier says, not sounding as sure about that as he probably should. "We should get out of here before we, like, asphyxiate...or get mugged by a freshman. Want me to lead the way?"

"The blind leading the blind," Isaiah murmurs, unsure if he's laughing or horrified. Both? Both. "Oh, Merlin, the Murder Freshman might be around. Yes, let's go."

"We're gonna die as we lived, at least." Xavier announces as he lets his arm grope along the wall. God he hopes he doesn't accidentally grab a stranger. "Completely confused, terrified of fourteen-year-olds, and wishing Ravi were here to guide us."

Where is the cafeteria from here, even? He's so turned around. Shit.

It gets a bark of a laugh from Isaiah. "Truer words," he acknowledges, taking a step in what he hopes is the right direction. "There's something to be said for consistency in trying times."

"Ribbonfin Reliable." Xavier automatically replies, deadpan, like it's a slogan he's said before. After a few shuffling steps forward, Zav glances over his shoulder to where he hopes Isaiah still is. "So, Zay, be honest. You gonna miss this absurdity? Or you ready to get out?"

Isaiah stops for a second, considering the question, before he realizes that Xavier can't see him stop and therefore this is a great way to get separated. He startles a little and hurries forward, which of course results in him sort of banging awkwardly into his roommate's shoulder.

"There are aspects I won't miss," he says dryly.

With a surprised "oof!" Xavier stumbles forward a few steps, steadying himself by flattening his palm on the locker. The collision also sets him to laughing; an airy giggle, mostly genuinely amused -- and maybe a pinch anxious about their continued fumbling through the darkness.

"Just think of how much more boring your life will be," he gestures at the darkness, in the darkness, then pauses, and more seriously adds, "Yeah, man. I'm ready for a vacation, too. I'm pretty sure the cafeteria is this way."

There's silence for several moments as Isaiah follows Xavier through the dark; it's not precisely easy, as the little mishap from a minute ago shows, but he's had plenty of experience following his roomates around. It's not too difficult in the long run.

"It's just odd to think that we won't be coming back at the end of it," he admits quietly. In contrast to walking like a normal human being, admissions almost seem easier in the dark.

Zav nods, for all the good it does, feeling suddenly sad. He slows his pace to a shuffle. "Yeah, dude. Especially with..." The people they're leaving behind. The people they might not ever see again. The things in the forest. Take your pick. He fusses with his hair before settling on a breathless, "Everything."

Not content to linger with these thoughts, Xavier adds, more hopefully, "But hey, like, we're gonna keep in touch, right? Not like we're disappearing from each others lives, entirely. Adulthood! It'll be cool."
