CANADIAN THANKSGIVING

Hi everyone, welcome to Canadian Thanksgiving. It's just like American Thanksgiving, only earlier, and probably better. Everyone in this school who has lived in Canada for even a second is invited, and can invite their friends if they really want to. Dinah even invited her son, Lazer, and he's from, like, Arkansas.

It's not a big production, but there's food, there's friends, and there's good conversation. Come gather around the table, eat some delicious food, and try to not feel homesick. Maybe they can all come to a consensus on what movie has the most cute boys in it.

After dinner is over, Paige Ripley is running the Hand Turkey Crafting Station! There's construction paper, pens, feathers, glitter, like whatever you might need to make a truly badass hand turkey. After you're done, put a blindfold on and play Pin the Hat on the Turkey! Stick your turkey to the wall and help it get a beautiful new accessory, because literally no outfit can't be improved by a pilgrim hat.

HOW THIS WORKS

Welcome Canadians! Friends they felt like dragging along! Party crashers!

This is during dinner. Don't go to regular dinner, come to cooler, more polite dinner.

Ennis brought food! Lots of food! Casserole dishes and covered pie pans float beside him as he enters because he doesn't have the hands to carry them all. He cancelled his Divination tutoring hour to bake all of this because Ennis has a burning need to show off his domestic skills any chance he can get.

There's a spread of dressing and pies for both meat-eaters and vegetarians, and there's way more than any of them can eat. (Or CAN they??)

"High School Musical has a lot of cute boys," he adds helpfully as he helps set up the table. "Or Twilight?"

Ari, who is accompanying actual Canadian Jade to this event, has for the most part just been standing around in a sullen silence. She doesn't really get this holiday. Of all the holidays, there are probably three to five that she would choose to do two months in a row before she picked Thanksgiving. But Jade asked her to come, so she's here, listening to the world's most inane conversation. Normally she'd rather die than participate in a which boy is the cutest boy conversation, but after hearing a particularly stupid phrase her curiosity gets the better of her.

"What is High School Musical?" she asks before she can help herself.

Essie's never heard a bad idea that she didn't immediately jump onto. Okay, maybe that's not entirely true, but she's determined to make this Thanksgiving Pizza Pie inspired by coolest sophomore Dinah Dixon???

She like.. doesn't take Magical Rudiments but how hard is pizza really??? Sure, the toppings list sounds kind of GROSS but it's still PIZZA and that automatically makes everything good???

Well, everything would probably be going a lot better if she hadn't started playing with the dough ball like it was a Quaffle. Heads up!!!

Jade is not very Canadian, but she does know how to handle a Quaffle, these days. With a little fumbling, she catches the flying dough ball and tosses it between her hands. She looks at it, obviously bemused. "You lost this." She tosses it back to Essie. "Is this..that pizza?"

Dominic arrived (with Ree, if she wants to come with?), as promised, carrying "a metric fuckton" (his words) of Grandmere Tremblay's Queues de Castor pastries in several varieties.

That's Beaver Tails to you Anglophones. And they are amazing.

For Sy, today is "the day after a Coppertale game." He woke up slightly hungover but in a good mood, and by dinner, the hangover's mostly gone away but the good mood has stayed. When he walks into the cafeteria, all he's expecting is to load up his tray with all the protein a growing 17-year-old needs, then track down Rosy and convince her to help him with the homework he's been putting off.

He's not expecting his reserve to be leading a... what even is this? "Dixon." He looks over all the food. God, he's starving. "Why the shit do you have an entire turkey?"

Dinah has a stupidly huge spoonful of mashed potatoes crammed in her mouth when she tries to answer. It sounds like she says, "Ish Thifling!" before she manages to swallow at least half the food shoved in her face and tries again.

"It's Thanksgiving," she says with an eye roll. "The better one."

Nisha looks like she belongs at the kids table as she examines the dinner spread. Where she actually belongs is a cage somewhere and definitely not at Canadian Thanksgiving, but she's working on her parent trapping skills and this is the perfect way to hone them. Pretty soon, she and Dinah will be utterly indistinguishable and then they can fool all sorts of people with hijinks.

Speaking of hijinks...

"Hey," she blurts at Dinah. "Bet you could cut that turkey super fast if you had a lot more knives. Or like if your hand was knives." After a pause, she adds, "eh?" She is NAILING this Canada thing.

Dinah looks at the knife in her hand. Then at another one sitting next to her on the table. Then at the tape nearby for Pin the Hat on the Turkey. Then she looks at the three again, like she's putting things together, like numbers are flying through her vision as she sits there. What if—wait, no, she's almost got this, what if—OH, WHAT IF SHE WAS BRILLIANT???

"You are a GENIUS," Dinah says, and she's already grabbing the tape and wrapping it around her hand, a way too sharp knife sticking out at an awkward angle. This is already going well.

How's the hand turkey looking?: Nisha's hand turkey looks what I imagine a hand turkey that has seen the true horrors of war would look like. Also, somehow she managed to give her hand turkey five finger feathers? It's a mystery. Maybe the hat will help him to cope.

How's the hand turkey looking?: This is a pretty fancy looking turkey if you like piles of blue glitter. It's also been charmed to squawk when approached by sharp objects so that's like MAYBE cheating but really it's just SELF-PRESERVATION FOR THE TURKEY.
What's your technique?: Definitely doing this before attempting to commit death by pie.

After dinner and a rousing game of Pin the Hat on the Turkey, there are still a lot of pies left. A lot. Students aren't allowed to bring them back to their cabins, especially after the bear incident last year, so the only option is to throw them away. What a waste!

Unless... There's still more room for dessert and/or the insatiable desire to one-up peers in a senseless competition?
