It's broken us both. I think you and I might actually have beating hearts inside and I had tried so very hard to replace mine with a lump of coal. But I say go for it. If Reid's going to ditch in the name of love, you can too. Do you really want to risk Alastair Du Pont whisking in to your rescue with his perfect white teeth and silent judgement?

I did go through a very extensive process of reviewing potential prom companions last year and he scores superbly in a number of categories. And he's younger than me. By less than a year, of course, but I still think my mother would approve.

God, that is actually the best argument I've heard so far. It doesn't matter how soft my heart is now, I cannot listen to him and Lavender discuss their plans to help underprivileged orphans in some third world country or I will actually hurt myself rolling my eyes.

I think your mother and I would both much rather see you with a high-scoring date less than a year younger than you than delving into the junior and sophomore classes. Those kids are... intense, and possibly all psychically linked.

You know the maiming builds character. But I'm sure that won't be your only opportunity. I'm not sure if you've heard, but it sounds like some people are talking about slipping away from this cotillion thing.

Why yes, this-or-that designer label did contact Lavendar about a collaboration, it is such an honor, but of course all the profits will go to charity. Do you know how many orphans you can feed with the sale of just one designer gown?

They're monsters. I have barely a handful of them to deal with in Event Committee and I'm still checking the mirror every day for my first gray hair. And you know... I'm not going to think too hard on the fact that if I wanted to properly follow in my mother's footsteps then my best options are out playing recess right now.
