During dinner, Cricket slips out of the cafeteria to set up the Atrium for Cricket Quayle's First Annual Costume Crafting Party!™ With the help of Prospero, Mrs. Acuña, and any eager prefects, she has pushed back the couches to the borders of the room and rolled out various round tables. Each table is loaded with craft supplies; both magical and no-maj tools are available. She's done her best to collect any supplies specifically requested throughout the week. There is PLENTY of cloth to go around and an embarrassing array of crafting supplies from her personal supply (and maybe Maggie's too!)

There is campy Halloween music playing from a barely functional CD player. And remember all those pumpkin seeds y'all harvested? Those are roasted and set around the room in various bowls for everyone to snack on.

Students will run smack dab into this crafting bonanza as they exit dinner and Cricket does her best to enthusiastically greet anyone showing even the slightest interest, particularly lost looking Freshmen.

The event lasts from 7:00 - 9:30pm, when Cricket begins asking students to finish up and find a buddy to walk back to the cabins.

Trixie showed up early having made a few trips back and forth to her cabin storeroom and set up shop in a corner with a sign saying 'Armstrong's Orchidian Adornments' ready and willing to lend a hand with anything outside of sewing. She's been making weapons and accessories for years and years now and has gotten pretty fantastic at doing things quickly but quite well.

She will also offer to not only make something but will attempt to teach as well. If anyone wants to learn.

Also nothing will catch on fire or explode!

Rafael arrives right on time for set up, and can be kept busy organizing all of the supplies and what goes where. He's taking this all very seriously and talks a lot about the logistics, but that's probably not surprising.

As promised, Ravi is skipping LARP today to help out with the Costume Crafting Party. He's not much taller than Nate, but has no trouble with moving couches and arranging supplies on the tables, as per Cricket's directions. Consider him totally willing to be ordered around to where he's needed most.

Maggie's there for set up!! And she definitely combined her craft supplies with Cricket's, but she's charmed their tools to emit a loud noise if any of them leave the atrium. NO WALKING OFF WITH THEIR SUPPLIES, ASSHOLES.

She's also brought her cloth dressform if anyone needs to see how their fabric drapes. The dressform can magically adjust itself to accommodate different measurements but you can't fully get rid of the lady-lumps on it. Sorry, boys!

"Come to Armstrong's Orchidian Adornments if anyone needs anything or needs ideas!" Trixie calls out acting like an actual shopkeeper in any movie or game ever but spends her time if she's not helping others fiddling with a giant green and blue glowing lantern for future purposes.

Ravi's taken Prospero's class for years, and has tons of experience putting together costumes for LARP, so he's happy to aid anyone when it comes to sewing and costume construction. While he's got a bit of experience in making props and accessories too, he'll probably direct those people to Trixie, since she's definitely the one to go to for that.

Ravi also has his Greek god costume to work on for the dance, so when he's got a spare moment, he'll be trying to figure out how to do Hades. He's putting together an ash-coloured chiton and himation on a table, and also a book on Greek mythology to provide some ideas. He'll also be talking to any passing prefects about what they're planning to do for the group costume!

Quinn made sure she could attend the crafting party because oh god, did she ever need the help. Last year she panicked and just went as a cat.

She arrives on time via a post-practice study session in the library, and her actual outfit — yoga pants, neon running shoes, and an obnoxious and oversized eighties-inspired sweater (that, let's be honest, was probably knit by her dad at her request) — accidentally makes her look like she's already in costume as a terribly misdirected millennial take on The Bangles.

She knows what she needs: a toga thing, a sick spear thing, and a helmet-with-a-brush thing. Assets include: some kind of sick golden boob-shield thing, a shield for real, and maybe an owl.

Quinn isn't afraid to ask for help and never turns it down when offered, because otherwise she's just going to bring out the cat ears again; something that [VOLUNTEER?] told her she was under no circumstances allowed to do, ever again.

Rafael is terrible at crafts, but he's on top of making sure everyone plays nice! Most of his time is spent fussing affectionately over younger students, and then passing them off to more creative peers. When he finds out one freshmen wants to go as a ballerina, he's very excited about making sure her costume comes together PERFECTLY.

He does need to work on his Poseidon costume, though, which he's going to need a lot of help with. In its current state, it's a pile of nice shimmery fabric and a box of shells and glitter.

Cole arrives with almost more supplies than he can carry, most of which are secured in a large plastic box, though there's also a garment bag on top and a few small containers and an assortment of odd tools sticking out of his back pocket. He's out of breath and looks a little unhappy that he had to make such an effort, but relieved once he sets everything down on the table. Clearly, he means business. When he opens the largest box, some loose feathers (some brown and some white and some black with white flecks) go fluttering out.

He sets up his space (which is probably more than his fair share, really) and gets to work, though what he's doing isn't immediately obvious. Anyone that offers to help him will be reassured that, no, he's totally got this!

Laurel is IN THE MOTHAFUCKIN ZONE

This is the most focused you'll probably ever see her, in/out of classes .-.
She's goofy and silly and happy to say hi to everyone as she's setting up, but slowly gets more and more tunnelvision'd into her project(s) as time goes on.

She may snap out of it once or twice to model for people and ask them opinions about various stuff tho c:

Okay, Rosy is competent at this, but she is just not very creative. She would much rather be walking around, telling people what to do or acting like she knew what was going on. The only reason she's bringing her own costume to work on is because she's counting on other people helping to make it AWESOME. But she also doesn't accept help very easily and wants it to look perfect dammit, so she keeps ripping things out and starting over.

She gets frustrated with her work probably about every ~8 minutes or so, gets up to see if anyone needs help or like she's really interested in going to get some pumpkin seeds, then sits back down with the intention of TOTALLY FINISHING THIS. And ~8 or so minutes later, she's frustrated again because IT DOESN'T LOOK RIGHT.

Spoiler alert: she does not finish by the end of the night.

Levi's costume has already been owled to him by his step-sister so he's good! He's just here to help with Cecil's costume the best that he can.

His sister has sketched up several concept ideas for the humanized White Rabbit and has sent along commercial patterns that she thinks would work for it. She was kind enough to send the ears, tail, and a short, prestyled white wig (Levi is skeptical about wearing wigs but his sister is adamant about them) but they're on their own for the construction of the costume. There's print outs of a few tutorials stapled together, though, with a cheeky note that says, 'Good job waiting until the last minute! Have fun! ♥'

Levi's feeling pretty confident until he opens one of the pattern envelopes and-- it's just paper? A few giant sheets of tan tissue paper with shapes drawn on them. What even is this???????

WE'RE DOING IT THIS WAY

Kurt arrives in the atrium looking slightly bewildered. He hadn't actually planned on attending the Halloween dance before (a) Chloe was, and (b) he'd somehow, miraculously become Pippa's date. Despite being a young man with a wild imagination, he has no ideas!

He walks around and checks out the tables and costumes, hoping to get some inspiration. Please, somebody help.

After satisfying herself with flitting around for awhile, Ursula does take a spot at the crafting tables. She's also spent quite some time in Prospero's classes, so she's not too concerned about whipping something up. She's determined to go with a pretty low key costume, so she's spending just as much time chattering away with people as she is fussing with some black fabric.

Addy showed up to this thinking she would make a costume but ended up wearing a tutu out.
SO HEY, NEW CLOTHES

Sybilla arrived promptly after dinner with a white, tall wig in a bag, which almost looks half as tall as she is herself, if not more. She uses both craft materials and transfiguration spells to add some further height, and has lots of fun making little bows and jewels to place strategically into the wig. She constructs a paper sail ship, and charms it to sway back and forth on the very top of the tower of fake hair. The last touch is a school of paper cut-out fish that she charms to swim around and dive out of the white curls.

"Is it too much?" she may ask her friends. "Or perhaps that is precisely the point," she smiles, as she shakes blue glitter all over her project.

After taking Rafael's measurements, recalling Nate's measurements from the part of her brain where she stores 'Everything About Nate's Whole Life,' and having her OWN measurements taken, Cricket hunkers down on the floor with several bolts of cloth and sets to work. She sews magically and is pretty good at it, but she's no Tim Gunn. If Nia or Ravi want to join her chiton making pow-wow, they're more than welcome.

She works on Raf and Nate's costumes first. They should both have functional outfits by the end of the night, though they may want to dress them up a bit and add cool effects. She abandons her own costume (she'll deal with it later!) in favor of helping everyone else.

Despite her plainly uncreative nature, Quinn can still help. While she's looking for somebody with the skills to help her, she cheerfully charms and transfigures certain items on command for others' costumes. She's also available to patch up any crafting-related injuries.

At the end of the evening, Quinn loudly designates each one of the atrium's corners for each house in turn, and proceeds to loudly instruct all students to go to their house's corner so that everybody can walk back in groups. And she's used to shouting on pitches and rinks of all sizes, so you can bet she's got the lungs to do it.

She sticks around until the very end to ensure there aren't any students left who don't have somebody to walk back with.
