ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARTY

It's St. Patrick's Day, and everyone's Irish tonight!

Just like last year, the Grotto has been decorated with crude but brilliantly colored green sparkling charms, making the still-bare trees around the clearing light up with emerald and gold lights. The crowning achievement is a beautiful glowing rainbow that passes right over the fire. The "pot of gold" at the end of this particular rainbow is where an exceptionally generous accumulation of alcohol is being kept.

Heathcliff Lacey managed to get the Grotto to basically explode with mounds of bright green clovers. The clovers are soft and comfortable to lie on and enjoy a drink. [Character B] finds a four leafed one amongst the bunch!

Atop a stump rests the crown for the new King/Queen of St. Patrick's Day: a crown of silver laurels in the Roman style. Hopefully this won't be bad luck in the Hunger Games. It was created by Ennis Harper just for the occasion. At the end of the night, Casey Patterson, the previous king, is supposed to crown the new king.

There are bright green shamrock pins you can take from a basket by the fire. These indicate that your character agrees to the annual kissing competition. The pins track how many different people gave your character a smooch (hands and cheeks count), and at the end of the night, the person who got the most kisses can demand a kiss from any party guest! (Assuming OOC consent is given.)

As always, there's a movie being screened, and this time it's the questionable "horror"/"comedy", Leprechaun. It is, unfortunately, neither horrifying or funny, except in its abject failure to be either.

RULES

• The party starts at 7:30, and runs until 10:00. The prefects are still strictly enforcing curfew.


• It's warm out now! These terrible children can put fashion over function once again. (Anon was kind enough to intervene, and while there's snow on campus, it looks like May in the Grotto.)


• Speaking of: you should consider wearing green, or you might get pinched.


• The King/Queen of St. Patrick's Day will be announced Sunday at noon, Mountain Time. This will hopefully give everyone a chance to play, but will allow your characters to react to the winner in a timely fashion.


• Tomorrow there will be a mini follow-up IC/OOC, popularly called the St. Patrick's Day Pity Party. It's tradition that the next day, everyone who drank too much gathers around the fields of Coppertale to recover and whine about their hangovers.


• Regarding the Hunger Games: you may not kill anyone in the Grotto or along the secret trails leading to it.

RULES

1. Teen peer pressure (and player sadism) aside, no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to. Characters doing Seven Minutes In Heaven can spend the time just talking or staring awkwardly at each other, and characters playing Spin The Bottle can opt out of a kiss (although people will probably boo).


2. If characters get up to anything more racy than PG-13, please fade to black on that! This includes sexually explicit conversations. Many people track IC/OOC posts, so please have consideration for your fellow players. Talking about sex is fine (and part of the flavour of a teen game), but there's no need to get into detailed descriptions of anatomy or sex acts.


3. If you'd like to say two characters were partners in STB or 7MIH in addition to what's been rolled, go ahead! Obviously, get the permission of all involved characters first.

» Before the Party: The St. Patrick's Day celebration is always a big one, even compared to other Grotto parties! Prep your outfits, grab your friends, and maybe hold off on pregaming if you want to show the school how much alcohol you can consume in one sitting.

» Around the Fire: The large bonfire is warm and romantic. Pull up a log and grab a blanket, make some s'mores, or dance to the party music. There's a karaoke setup for anyone who feels bold enough to sing along. If you don't care for music, there's beer and soda in the ice chests, along with bins for empty bottles and cans. Don't litter. This isn't your home. Some bold students are even doing body shots as the temperature is continuing to rise, and lifting your shirt is no longer going to result in freezing to death.

» MOVIE SCREENING: LEPRECHAUN: Students sit around to watch the classically bad horror-comedy, Leprechaun. Micah will readily defend the quality of his choice.

» Drinking Competition: At the end of the night, the heartiest drinker will be named King or Queen of St. Patrick's Day. There's a crown on the line, and the winner will be carried back to their cabin by the remaining drunken survivors at the end of the night. (Yes, they'll probably be dropped at least once.) People who participated in the drinking games (and anyone else who wants to play along) are expected to refer to them as "Your Highness" for the next week and bow when they enter the room.

• There are drinking games taking place all over the party, in addition to just regular old drinking without a game involved at all. Gooseberry's on the lookout for the heartiest drinker this year!


• Start a thread for your character under this comment and fill out the form below to be part of the competition.


• Each time you comment to your thread with the form, you will get a roll to add to your character's drinking score. You may request up to three rolls in one comment.


• The goal is to get as close to 200 as you can without going over. After you go over 200, your character either passes out, vomits, or is simply too unwell to continue. They're effectively disqualified.


• In the case of a tie at the end of the night, we'll roll a tiebreaker.


• As your score increases, we'll inform you how drunk your character is becoming.


• Special Austin Rule: Because Austin McNamara opted to take his Felix Felicis today, he'll get two saving graces. This means that if he's about to go over 200, the mods will reroll until he doesn't. We'll do this twice, and after that he's on his own.


• There's an option to indicate your character has low alcohol tolerance. This means that every roll gets a +5 modifier. Your character will get drunker faster, but they're more likely to go over 200.

<b>Name:</b> <b>High or low tolerance:</b> Low tolerance will at +5 to each of your rolls. <b>How many rolls:</b> 1, 2, or 3. Each is a roll of 1-50.

» Other Games:

• Pinching: Did your character forget to wear green? If so, comment here, and other character may come along and give your character a pinch.


• Kiss me, I'm (pretending to be) Irish: Those shamrock pins being offered around the fire? They're a cue that you're open to receiving random pecks from strangers. These are assumed to be cute platonic kisses, not mouth kisses. If your character is participating, comment here for drive by smooches. Your character's pin will then magically keep track of how many times they're kissed. The character that receives the most kisses by midnight can request a kiss from any party attendant! (You must receive OOC permission, and the type of kiss is chosen by the person your character selected. The winner will be announced at the same time as the king/queen, both IC and OOC, and the kiss will take place in front of the crowd of revellers.)

» Inside the Building: This may be where the kissing games are taking place, but there's still some room to just snuggle and chat. It's warmer than outside, at least!

» Kissing Games:

• Spin The Bottle: Everyone sits in a circle and takes turns spinning the bottle to find their partner. Anyone who squeezes in (or happens to be accidentally standing behind a gap in the circle) gets a shot at a kiss. People can leave and enter the game at any time. Participants will be encouraged by their drunken classmates to kiss on the mouth.


• Seven Minutes in Heaven: "Heaven" is a narrow, closet-sized room adjacent to the main party, and is dark except for some cracks of light from the doorway. There's now a proper wooden door on the closet, and people will magically lock it behind you for 7 minutes. You can use your wand to get more light, but really, you two should be making out.

» The Woods: The prefects probably won't let you wander too far in, but why would you want to anyway?

» After the Party: At midnight, prefects will be clearing the party and guiding everyone home. Don't walk back alone! Anyone left at 12:30 AM when the second wave of prefects hits the Grotto will be written up for punishment. As it's St. Patrick's day, the prefects might be anticipating more passed out classmates than normal.

By this point, Spencer is Extremely Drunk and laughs easily. He's here for Ira (whether Ira asked for it or not), but will probably let other people appreciate his abs by taking a shot off them. So long as they don't mind that his muscles are private property now, of course.

Its not apparent yet how far gone Gwen is when she comes up to where the shots are being done, just that her face is equal parts curious and suspicious. "So, how does this work?" she asks whomever seems like they will answer.

Sofia is already tipsy by the time she heads over for body shots, willing to give and take as many as she's wanted for. She mostly wants to drink more, though.

In fact, Calvin has never been this drunk in his entire life. He slides down to the ground, intending to merely sit, but ends up just lying down and feeling the world spin. The clover patch is blessedly soft, and he can just stare up at the stars as he waits for everything to stop moving.

When he thinks about how much pain he's going to be in tomorrow, he groans.

Calvin & Micah

"Hellooooo handsome," comes a familiar sing-song voice. A water bottle is dangled in front of Calvin's eyes before Micah's face comes into view, with an affectionate smile for his most favorite flushed fish of the night.

Eileen & Sandy

Lying in the clovers seemed like an amazing idea when Eileen stumbled past the fire and dropped herself in the greenery, and to be fair they are fantastically comfortable. She's not actually sure she'll be able to get up ever, though; she'd tried to sit up to smoke at some point and it had been a real chore. Not one to be deterred, however, she'd settled for twisting onto her side and now reclines like this, sipping at a cup of whiskey she doesn't really need and occasionally remembering she's got a lit cigarette between her fingers.

Eileen & Sandy

While drinking the One Beer he's allowing himself to have during the party, Sandy spots Eileen collapsed in the clovers and smiles a bit to himself. Even if it looks like she may be on the verge of starting a forest fire. He grabs a bottle of water before heading over to join her, sitting down and propping up her arm and offering her a smile, "Are you a competitor this year or just an enthusiast?"

Ursula is a mess. (Open to multiple)

Ursula's been drinking. A lot. At some point, she obtained one of the shamrock pins, but actually maneuvering it on has been an ordeal. She stabs herself with it on more than one occasion, but never manages to actually get it on her shirt.

Ursula & Ferdie

Ferdie sees this struggle, and decides to take mercy on someone who deserves it. He steps close and without saying anything, takes the pin out of her hands and fastens it to her collar. "Gotta get you in that contest." He explains.

Karen & Open (to multiples)

Karen is sitting around the fire and been avoiding actually drinking anything for the time being. She is high on her first Hunger Games kill, pleased the dry spell finished after day three. Now she has her new target and no idea how to accomplish it, but hey she will be back plotting soon enough. Though tonight is for hanging with friends and people watching. She has been enjoying the people watching from around the fire.

Karen & Rory

From afar, Rory spotted Karen sitting on her own. Deciding that was unacceptable and she shouldn't be alone at such an interesting party, she grabbed two drinks and moseyed over. As a prefect, she probably shouldn't be drinking either nor encouraging the act of drinking, but she wasn't perfect.

"I can't help thinking your hand looks lonely, so I brought it a companion." She teased, big grin and all. Holding the cup out she wiggled it a little, the contents sloshing gently inside. "Plus, you know, it's a party." And Rory was an enabler of one of the highest standards.

Sofia + Open

If Sofia could properly think, she'd be certain this is the drunkest she's ever been. She went hard for drinking contest and indulged even more after that. She'd been having a lot of fun, though. The people she'd been kissing weren't Phin, but they had agreed to let each other go wild tonight for some last hurrah before graduation and being committed sorta thing. Plus, they were sloppy drunks.

Finally allowing herself a break, she flopped down by the fire and soaked in the warmth she didn't realize she'd needed. Usually excessive drinking took care of that for you.

Sofia + Iliya

Iliya looks up when he notices someone flop down close by. Sofia. He'd been just sitting here quietly, not entirely sure how to fill his time at this party if he wasn't either getting too drunk or trying to psych himself up for kissing people in a dark closet. A friend is a welcome interruption to Iliya's brooding thoughts.

"Dobur vecher," he calls out, and moves to sit beside Sofia. "Having fun?"

Sy & Clem

Sy has made several miscalculations this week, beginning with not getting there in time to stop Ebonhide from blocking out every non-sadistic time slot for tomorrow, continuing with letting Clem stick a plastic knife in him, and culminating in deciding to say, fuck it, if everyone's gonna drink tonight, he'll drink too.

Tomorrow, he'll deeply regret it. Tonight, he's happy to be very drunk as he approaches Clem from behind, and wraps an arm around her shoulders. "Guess what." Sy sneaks a kiss against her temple. "I forgive you."

Clem? Is also very drunk. Luckily for her, she and Ulysses double-booked afternoon time slots for practice, so she gets to sleep in tomorrow morning. And she doesn't have a Quidditch game this weekend. And? She can't be murdered in the Grotto, or on the majority of her walk home tonight, which means that she's totally competing for that drinking crown. Call it growing up if you want to, but she doesn't get shitfaced all that often anymore, and this is probably, honestly, the drunkest she's been since she and Sy started dating.

She giggles as he wraps an arm around her, leaning her head back into his shoulder to look up at him. Big mistake, a little vertigo there. He's too tall. "You do, huh?" she asks. "That was quick."

Quentin & open to multiple

Quentin is past tipsy. He’s pretty drunk. He’s not yet eliminated from the drinking competition but he’s taking a break, sitting at the fire, leaning back against a log, staring into the fire, transfixed. His mind is pretty hard to slow down or focus in on anything. Sometimes it gets in the way of class and homework and conversations but it’s gotten to the point that it’s basically just a part of his personality. Caffeine slows it down, but holy shit alcohol works way better. This is the stillest he’s ever been and he’s so focused on this fire. He’s not even thinking about anything which is nice because people keep making him think about shit lately.

Before the drinking competition, he was thinking about how he’s supposed to be nice to everybody and not play favorites if the people he don’t play favorites with keep shutting him out and snapping on him. Like he’s okay with it, but it’s also a lot like hitting a brick wall every time he tries to move forward. So that’s gonna take some finessing. Noel’s new girl keeps telling him to observe but he’s not too sure what she means by that because like - he’s always observing everything, that’s how he picked his favorites in the first place, so what the fuck is he supposed to be observing now? And how is that supposed to prove that he’s being nice anyway? Archie observes everything and he just looks like a creeper most times.

That’s probably a mean thought.

Quentin grimaces. Fuck. He accidentally started thinking again.

Quentin & Panda

Panda, of course, is a functional opposite. At this level of inebriation, she's messy, hard to pin down, and more talkative than she ought to be. It's hard to be still. It's hard to focus, so much that the clipboard is missing and the mission has been cancelled.

She's been able to sit in place very nicely for kissing games, but not without a wobble or a shake or a sudden appearance on the opposite side of the circle. Alcohol makes everything slower and quicker all at once, so -- she sees Quentin, thinks about saying hello to him, and a blink later has plopped down beside him with the grace of a teetering fawn.

"Hi!" He looks serious, so she repeats it in a quieter voice, tossing her dark hair behind one shoulder. "Hi."

Liberty & OPEN

Liberty has a wrist watch and an Erlenmeyer flask. She's calculated how much alcohol she should consume per hour to achieve and maintain the desired level of inebriation that her research indicates would be optimal to lower inhibitions without excessive consequences. She sets the flask on the table to pour in whiskey, watchful of the meniscus curve. Then, she tops it off less carefully with cherry cola.

Bert & JD

JD is more than a little bit nervous about the arrangement she's made with Bert for tonight, but she's trying to be cool about it. Everyone at this school kisses people. She's missing out on a huge portion of social interactions by isolating herself.

And of the people she could kiss, Bert isn't a bad option at all. Like, she's drinking out of an Erlenmeyer flask right now, with JD finds fairly endearing.

"Points for style," she says as she approaches Bert, somewhat awkwardly.

A Special Girl!!! + Open to Multiple

Hey everyone! Tally almost died last night and she's very drunk! She spends most of the evening drinking by the fire and trying to get absolutely anyone and everyone's attention. She's looking especially like she just arrived from the unseelie court today, in her sparkly green dress and with her hair haphazardly full of jeweled pins. She was wearing a dramatic, dark green lipstick earlier too, which was maybe even kind of working for her. But it's long since worn off, thanks in part to her unscrupulous drinking.

She is very, very drunk. But not ready to be carried home just yet.

"Dance with me," she demands of a random passerby, grabbing their arm to pull them closer and maybe also to stop herself from falling over.

Gwen and Webster

About halfway through the night, Gwen takes off the shamrock pin and tosses it on the table as she passes by, having had enough of random kisses from people (although Ennis would likely just keep at it). She trades in the cup of whatever she had been drinking and grabs a can of soda, before she heads over to the fire to warm up. Getting drunk at the Grotto is....interesting, she admits, but not really any different than getting drunk any other time with her friends. She isn't sure what she had been expecting. At least she could cross it off her senior to-do list?

The fact that it is her birthday also doesn't seem to factor in. Eighteen now, but she certainly doesn't feel any different. Besides Calvin and her cabinmates, no one really knew it was anyway, so she resolves to just relax the rest of the evening and try to sober up by the fire. She is certainly far gone enough to choose her spot very carefully and not pitch herself into the fire, the possibility of which makes her laugh a little to herself (also a good indicator that she's had too much). She's got a blanket, the fire is warm and she decides that leaning against the log and closing her eyes is a capital idea, except that the log certainly isn't remaining nice and still. Bastard. She reopens her eyes, glancing around again. She's been looking for Webster for a bit and has to assume he isn't there yet. Still, if anyone else tries to sit on the blanket with her, she lets them know the spot is saved.

Lilika & Open

It's not that Lilika forgot to wear green, she just didn't think it would matter. Attending a school with uniforms meant she very rarely got the chance to flaunt her favorite outfits and she wasn't about to sacrifice an opportunity to rock a suede mini skirt just because some Irish guy chased some rats out of a pub or whatever.

Unfortunately, she severely underestimated just how pinchy the underclassmen at this school could be. By midday, she had been pinched THREE times, which might seem innocuous to most but not to the Azurcrest Cheer Captain who is accustomed to striking fear into the hearts of the meek. Sure, it would make sense to just charm something green but that would clash with her color scheme. Plus, she's already made a fuss about it and Casper's advice feels a lot like he's telling her what to do. PLUS!!! Someone just pinched her on the BUTT and she refuses to be harassed into compliance!!! #ShePersisted

Lilika stands close to the fire, partly because it's too cold to be wearing a mini skirt and partly to reduce the chances of getting accosted by anymore grabby little fingers. Her stance is wary but after a while she starts swaying with the music and if you approach slowly she probably won't smack you.
