ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARTY

It's St. Patrick's Day, and everyone's Irish tonight!

Just like last year, the Grotto has been decorated with crude but brilliantly colored green sparkling charms, making the still-bare trees around the clearing light up with emerald and gold lights. The crowning achievement is a beautiful glowing rainbow that passes right over the fire. The "pot of gold" at the end of this particular rainbow is where an exceptionally generous accumulation of alcohol is being kept.

Heathcliff Lacey managed to get the Grotto to basically explode with mounds of bright green clovers. The clovers are soft and comfortable to lie on and enjoy a drink. [Character B] finds a four leafed one amongst the bunch!

Atop a stump rests the crown for the new King/Queen of St. Patrick's Day: a crown of silver laurels in the Roman style. Hopefully this won't be bad luck in the Hunger Games. It was created by Ennis Harper just for the occasion. At the end of the night, Casey Patterson, the previous king, is supposed to crown the new king.

There are bright green shamrock pins you can take from a basket by the fire. These indicate that your character agrees to the annual kissing competition. The pins track how many different people gave your character a smooch (hands and cheeks count), and at the end of the night, the person who got the most kisses can demand a kiss from any party guest! (Assuming OOC consent is given.)

As always, there's a movie being screened, and this time it's the questionable "horror"/"comedy", Leprechaun. It is, unfortunately, neither horrifying or funny, except in its abject failure to be either.

RULES

The party starts at 7:30, and runs until 10:00. The prefects are still strictly enforcing curfew.

It's warm out now! These terrible children can put fashion over function once again. (Anon was kind enough to intervene, and while there's snow on campus, it looks like May in the Grotto.)

Speaking of: you should consider wearing green, or you might get pinched.

The King/Queen of St. Patrick's Day will be announced Sunday at noon, Mountain Time. This will hopefully give everyone a chance to play, but will allow your characters to react to the winner in a timely fashion.

Tomorrow there will be a mini follow-up IC/OOC, popularly called the St. Patrick's Day Pity Party. It's tradition that the next day, everyone who drank too much gathers around the fields of Coppertale to recover and whine about their hangovers.

Regarding the Hunger Games: you may not kill anyone in the Grotto or along the secret trails leading to it.

RULES

Teen peer pressure (and player sadism) aside, no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to. Characters doing Seven Minutes In Heaven can spend the time just talking or staring awkwardly at each other, and characters playing Spin The Bottle can opt out of a kiss (although people will probably boo).

If characters get up to anything more racy than PG-13, please fade to black on that! This includes sexually explicit conversations. Many people track IC/OOC posts, so please have consideration for your fellow players. Talking about sex is fine (and part of the flavour of a teen game), but there's no need to get into detailed descriptions of anatomy or sex acts.

If you'd like to say two characters were partners in STB or 7MIH in addition to what's been rolled, go ahead! Obviously, get the permission of all involved characters first.

» Before the Party: The St. Patrick's Day celebration is always a big one, even compared to other Grotto parties! Prep your outfits, grab your friends, and maybe hold off on pregaming if you want to show the school how much alcohol you can consume in one sitting.

» Around the Fire: The large bonfire is warm and romantic. Pull up a log and grab a blanket, make some s'mores, or dance to the party music. There's a karaoke setup for anyone who feels bold enough to sing along. If you don't care for music, there's beer and soda in the ice chests, along with bins for empty bottles and cans. Don't litter. This isn't your home. Some bold students are even doing body shots as the temperature is continuing to rise, and lifting your shirt is no longer going to result in freezing to death.

» MOVIE SCREENING: LEPRECHAUN: Students sit around to watch the classically bad horror-comedy, Leprechaun. Micah will readily defend the quality of his choice.

» Drinking Competition: At the end of the night, the heartiest drinker will be named King or Queen of St. Patrick's Day. There's a crown on the line, and the winner will be carried back to their cabin by the remaining drunken survivors at the end of the night. (Yes, they'll probably be dropped at least once.) People who participated in the drinking games (and anyone else who wants to play along) are expected to refer to them as "Your Highness" for the next week and bow when they enter the room.

There are drinking games taking place all over the party, in addition to just regular old drinking without a game involved at all. Gooseberry's on the lookout for the heartiest drinker this year!

Start a thread for your character under this comment and fill out the form below to be part of the competition.

Each time you comment to your thread with the form, you will get a roll to add to your character's drinking score. You may request up to three rolls in one comment.

The goal is to get as close to 200 as you can without going over. After you go over 200, your character either passes out, vomits, or is simply too unwell to continue. They're effectively disqualified.

In the case of a tie at the end of the night, we'll roll a tiebreaker.

As your score increases, we'll inform you how drunk your character is becoming.

Special Austin Rule: Because Austin McNamara opted to take his Felix Felicis today, he'll get two saving graces. This means that if he's about to go over 200, the mods will reroll until he doesn't. We'll do this twice, and after that he's on his own.

There's an option to indicate your character has low alcohol tolerance. This means that every roll gets a +5 modifier. Your character will get drunker faster, but they're more likely to go over 200.

» Other Games:

Pinching: Did your character forget to wear green? If so, comment here, and other character may come along and give your character a pinch.

Kiss me, I'm (pretending to be) Irish: Those shamrock pins being offered around the fire? They're a cue that you're open to receiving random pecks from strangers. These are assumed to be cute platonic kisses, not mouth kisses. If your character is participating, comment here for drive by smooches. Your character's pin will then magically keep track of how many times they're kissed. The character that receives the most kisses by midnight can request a kiss from any party attendant! (You must receive OOC permission, and the type of kiss is chosen by the person your character selected. The winner will be announced at the same time as the king/queen, both IC and OOC, and the kiss will take place in front of the crowd of revellers.)

» Inside the Building: This may be where the kissing games are taking place, but there's still some room to just snuggle and chat. It's warmer than outside, at least!

» Kissing Games:

Spin The Bottle: Everyone sits in a circle and takes turns spinning the bottle to find their partner. Anyone who squeezes in (or happens to be accidentally standing behind a gap in the circle) gets a shot at a kiss. People can leave and enter the game at any time. Participants will be encouraged by their drunken classmates to kiss on the mouth.

Seven Minutes in Heaven: "Heaven" is a narrow, closet-sized room adjacent to the main party, and is dark except for some cracks of light from the doorway. There's now a proper wooden door on the closet, and people will magically lock it behind you for 7 minutes. You can use your wand to get more light, but really, you two should be making out.

» The Woods: The prefects probably won't let you wander too far in, but why would you want to anyway?

» After the Party: At midnight, prefects will be clearing the party and guiding everyone home. Don't walk back alone! Anyone left at 12:30 AM when the second wave of prefects hits the Grotto will be written up for punishment. As it's St. Patrick's day, the prefects might be anticipating more passed out classmates than normal.

Webster stands on his tip-toes and scans the grotto. Of course, it's tough to find someone when everybody is wearing green. Finally he spies Gwen reclined near the fire and makes his way over to her, careful to avoid getting bumped or having anyone spill on him or the small, wrapped box he's holding.

"Mind if I join you?" he asks, but doesn't wait for her to answer before sitting down next to her. He takes note of her current state and breaks into a smile, "Seems I'm late to the party!"

When he first sits down, Gwen almost tells him not to, as her focus is not the best. But it registers all at once. "Hey, you," she replies, grinning a bit unsteadily. Deciding to go with the joke anyway, she pokes him and adds, "This spot is saved for some guy named Webster. You'd better watch out, he's a bit of a wolf." She nods with a mock serious wide-eyed look that dissolves into another smile.

"I think I'm done though." She holds up the soda. "I was starting to lose track of who was trying for a St. Patrick's kiss."

"Webster?" he repeats dismissively, "Yeah, I'm not worried about him. But," he leans closer and lowers his voice, "I would like a list of all the people who have been giving you St. Patrick's kisses." He doesn't actually care, but he'll try to play the part of Jealous Boy... just for a moment... unconvincingly.

"Names." He squints, channeling some on-the-edge cop he once saw on TV. "Of the smoochers."

Gwen giggles, with a hiccup, but she schools her expression to a somber one as he turns the metaphorical screws. "Uh..." is her brilliant start, before she scrunches up her face in thought. "Ennis, then...Riley? And Ennis. Marie. Um...Ennis. Then Chloe, maybe? And then definitely Ennis." She grins. "Did I mention Ennis, too?"

And just because, she leans over a bit conspiratorial. "And also, that guy Webster."

"Mhmm... okay..." Webster nods as Gwen rattles off the names. He mimes writing everything down in a little, imaginary notepad. "Ennis," he interjects after her fifth mention of the name. He looks up at her and furrows his brow, "Is that with one n? Or two?" He nods again, "Mhmm... okay... thank you, miss." He mimes flipping the notepad closed. "This has been very helpful. I will be following up with these individuals and... handling the situation," he finishes, attempting maximum ominousness.

He bites his lip. "I don't actually have to follow up with any of these people? Right?" He's caught somewhere half-way between this character and himself.

Gwen is promptly distracted by having to spell out Ennis' name, and she adds a description of his hair for humorous effect, purposefully making his curls sound more of of control. As Webster closes the fictional notepad, she momentarily wonders what handling might really look like.

"Not unless you want to congratulate any of them," she muses, taking a sip of her soda and hiccuping again. "But maybe you should get the license plate of that car that ran me over, sir." She laughs, a bubbly sound even though the spinning has definitely not slowed down that much. It helps to focus on him. "I'm pretty sure it was made out of vodka. Can't miss it."

Webster is now genuinely unsure if he should be jealous or not. Of the classmates she kissed. Of Ennis in particular. Of this bottle of vodka that apparently has gotten to touch Gwen's lips a bunch tonight. Her joke about the car that ran her over pulls him out of his head. He laughs and decides to shelf these thoughts for later.

"I can't believe you were the victim of a hit and run. On your birthday no less." He gets comfortable next to her. "How's today been otherwise?"

Blissfully unaware of his thoughts regarding her overly-amorous housemate, Gwen scoots so that her shoulder and arm are pressed against his. A little more stability does wonders. "Pretty boring. My parents sent me a card." She puts the soda can against her cheek, absently sighing at the blessed coolness on her face. "Not much else though. I don't think anyone else remembered." She manages a small pout before she perks up. "You remembered, though! Oh, and the vodka car remembered. Although that was probably me throwing myself in front of it," she admits, after a moment.

The contact from Gwen's arm and shoulder feels nice and Webster lets himself lean slightly into her until they strike a comfortable balance. "Of course I remembered! I'm actually pretty good with dates and numbers," he reveals before adding, "Of course yours is St. Patrick's Day so it was super easy." He turns away from Gwen for a moment and returns holding a small box with an envelope and simple wrapping. "I didn't know if I should make big deal out of it or not. Birthdays can be weird for some people."

"Mine isn't weird. I wish more people remembered. I usually like a big deal." The faint forlorn note disappears as he holds out the gift, and Gwen's smile returns in force. "Hey, you did get me something! And so much better than the car, really." With a slightly unsteady grasp, she takes the envelope first, setting it on her lap and then the box. "Should I open it here? Am I saving it? I'm really terrible at saving things for later. I should be better about that."

What monster would stand between Gwen and her getting to open a birthday present? Certainly not Webster Knox. "No, you don't have to wait," he assures, her breaking out into an amused smile. "But I think proper manners still dictate that you begin with the card."

Inside the envelope she'll find a card with an animated drawing on the front. Two Quidditch players fly around, leaving a trail behind them -- like airplanes do -- that spells out "Happy Birthday!" When the text starts to fade, they repeat their route. Inside Webster has written a short note.

"Someone's been going around telling people it's your birthday. You need to Catch The Snitch. I hope you have a wonderful day. Happy Birthday! - WK"

Also inside she'll find the photo of Webster that London took. London is a talented photographer with... interesting taste. Webster sits outdoors, perfectly lit, shirtless in a chair. He reads sheet music like it's a magazine and has a guitar leaning against the chair my his arm. Behind him, horses graze absently. Turns out they weren't allowed to do a photo shoot on the horses as London had initially planned. But even with their improvised shift towards a music motif, they've decided to keep Webster in his riding pants and boots. It's A Look, and Webster ~~thinks~~ hopes Gwen will enjoy the beautiful absurdity of the final result.

"I have great manners, I'll have you know," Gwen returns, still grinning, as she sets down her soda so she can give proper attention to the card. The drawing on the front earns a small laugh of appreciation, as does the message inside. The picture slides out faster than she can grab it, landing on her lap atop the present, and she picks it up with curiosity, as she teases him, "You know, puns are the lowest form of-"

Her voice trails off as she sees the full picture in the low light of the fire, and she instantly blushes straight up to her hairline. "Webster," she chides, unable to hold back a wide smile despite pretty savagely biting down on her lip. She fans herself with the photo melodramatically, a movement made a little looser given how drunk she is, before she looks at it again. "You sexy beast. I love the boots." She leans against him a bit bonelessly, not having the best coordination now. "We've been doing trail rides all wrong, clearly."

If Gwen is blushing, Webster doesn't notice it. He's a little preoccupied with the heat that's radiating out over his own face. The photo shoot had been a lot of fun. And he'd put it in the envelope without much thought. But now? Now he finds himself a bit self-conscious. Gwen's fanning and chiding and smiling are all positive signs, but still. What was he thinking? Webster from even a few months ago would never have done the photo shoot let alone give the end result to his crush. Should he get a drink? Where's a drink?

"Of all the things in the photo to single out, I'm glad you picked the boots," he tells her, and there's a lot of truth to that statement. "The whole thing is a joke," he feels the need to explain. "But the photo is yours. Do with it what you like. Hide it away. Hang it up. Blackmail me. Whatever!"

"I have a shoe fetish," she jokes, an absurd lie but worth it as she presses the picture to her chest, still dramatic. "I didn't know you would go through with it when London offered! I'm tickled that you did." Still smiling, she peeks at it again and then (mostly without trouble) slides it back into the card so it's secure. "You're much braver than I am, joke or no joke." She thinks she can see a blush on his face although the fire makes it hard to tell, but if he isn't yet, he will be with her words. She and Ennis are a pair when it comes to being inappropriate when drunk. "And I'm gonna hide it and bring it out on special occasions."

Webster didn't know that blood could travel so quickly to one's face. You learn something new every day, would be a fun quippy comment to make... if he were capable of quick thought in this moment. "Oh! Well-- Um-- Thanks-- I'm glad you like it," is what comes out of his mouth instead. And all things considered, he's pretty proud of that. "Why don't we open the box now?" he redirects, taking the envelope from her.

Inside she'll find two, brown leather riding gloves. On the palm of the left is a bumblebee. On the palm of the right is the Ribbonfin sigil.

By the time she's opened the box, Webster has regained some composure. Enough to quip, "I wish you'd told me about the shoe fetish sooner. Would've picked out a different riding accessory if I'd known..."

Gwen almost pulls the envelope from him just to really tease him, but she gamely lets it go, satisfied that she got enough of a reaction from him. Still giggling, she opens the box, thinking over a few other choice retorts she could still use, although they are all likely only funnier because she is at least two sheets to the wind, not quite a third.

"Oh, I love them!" she exclaims, holding up the gloves close to her face so she could examine the little bee, and the sigil (yea, drunk and low firelight do not mesh well). "They're so cute." A fresh bit of humor comes to her and she leans against him with a cheeky smile, lowering her voice. He really has no chance. "I have a glove fetish, too, did I tell you?"

"No, no you did not," his voice cracks. "Good thing my fetish is indulging your fetish, then." Ah, one of those jokes you regret halfway through but can't stop yourself from completing. He shakes his head. Nope. Bad bad bad. He's dead. Full dead. He grabs a beer out of the hand of a passing student and takes a sip. Sorry, he needs this more than you do. "Well, happy birthday, Gwen. I'm glad you liked the gifts." He raises the bottle as if to clink with her soda can but doesn't wait for her before taking another long sip.

"I liked all my gifts." Yes, still smiling, quite pleased with herself. Gwen holds up the soda can in a weaving toast, before taking a drink. "It's like they just keep on giving." She eyes the beer. "Don't try and catch up, though. You might die." Closing her eyes, she leans her head on his shoulder, resting almost all her weight there now. It would be fun getting her back to camp eventually. With a sound that is almost another laugh, she murmurs, "I don't really have a glove fetish, sorry. But maybe...I'll get one now!" Yes, the novelty is appealing all of the sudden.

Webster wraps his arm over Gwen's shoulder when she leans up against him. "I have no dreams of catching up to you," he assures her as he takes another sip from his beer. He looks down at her, "I like you. Whatever fetish you may or may not have." He gives her shoulder a little squeeze and holds her close against his body. He looks up at the fire and rubs her upper arms gently, finally allowing himself to relax a bit. "...or may someday develop."
