Sy is nowhere to be seen in the cafeteria, but the delivery freshman claims these come from him. Each member of the Coppertale Quidditch team (including reserves) receives a dark orange envelope with the following items inside:



A bronze fox claw necklace. The pendant is about the size of a penny, and hangs from a black chain.



An origami fox, which was obviously kept from the time Coppertale was flooded with origami foxes by a mysterious fan. On the back of the fox, there's a short note in Sy's handwriting:

I got word from Drake. Whatever happens, it'll still be you and me after graduation.

This...might just mean the world to Heathcliff. Especially since he's been doubting himself ever since he was the only Coppertale Chaser that failed to make the school Quidditch team. He's going to read this note over (and over) before the game to get PUMPED and if anyone thinks he's taking this necklace off anytime soon, they're dreaming.

Time to kick some ass for Captain Sy and Coppertale!!

Dinah's putting this necklace in her hair. Hopefully it doesn't fall out. It'll almost definitely get tangled in there and she'll end up having to cut or tear it out.

Reid silently tucks the necklace under his shirt after receiving it, hidden and unseen. He's tense and avoids engaging his teammates up until the game starts. At least one thing is guaranteed.

Ira's not exactly one to make a big fuss about this kind of thing. Especially from someone who's technically an authority figure. He pockets the gift and the note in his jacket with no comment.

Of course, the second no one's paying him direct attention, he makes the little fox sit up so it doesn't get crushed, and slips the pendant on.

Nisha slips the necklace over her head before she reads the note on the back of the paper fox. And she smiles - muted, her mouth pressed into a line, but with an excitement that's barely contained. She clutches the fox with both hands, between thumb and forefinger, and gives it a squeeze before tucking it gently between the pages of her notebook.

Roxie loves this game - loves this team - far more than she ever anticipated. And this is it. No matter what the outcome, she's never going to have this again. But, with her fingers curled tight around the metal and her feet on the ground, it actually feels like that's okay. She'll have something else instead.

Which is nice. Strange and unexpected and nice. She never thought she'd have that either.
