PARTY RULES

  • The party begins at 7:00 PM in the Grotto tomorrow night, November 11th. This event is to remain in the Grotto, and should not extend to campsites before, during or after.
    • Any “pre-game” activity should be kept in private cabins.
  • The party ends at 1:00 AM, and curfew will be enforced as normal at 2:00 AM. Some lenience will be given in terms of where you end up for the night, accounting for inebriated students. We would rather have you safely in a cabin that’s not yours than passed out halfway to Azurcrest.
  • Safety is the primary concern of the prefects, Head Boy, and Head Girl. Any unsafe behavior will be stopped. Unsafe behavior includes but is not limited to:
    • Fighting.
    • Holding fight clubs.
    • Climbing things while under the influence.
    • Setting things on fire, regardless of whether or not you are under the influence.
    • Dancing too close to the fire pit when you are clearly under the influence.
    • Etc.
  • Within the confines of the Grotto, the consumption of alcohol and pot is allowed. No questions asked. There are only a couple limitations.
    • Spiking anyone’s drink without their knowledge is a punishable offense.
    • Any drugs harder than marijuana will be reported to staff.
  • Do not have sex in the Grotto, for the comfort of your peers. All the bushes have lost their leaves, we will be able to see you.
  • Keep your clothes on. It’s cold out anyway.
  • Respect your fellow students. Harassment will not be tolerated. If another student makes you feel unsafe, find a prefect.
  • At the end of the night, help your peers. Walk one another home. Help to clean up. It is very important that we clean up after ourselves
  • Do not go into the woods, do not leave the path.
  • And if you think that all I will do for breaking these rules is remove points, you must not know me very well.
For the "clever" individuals who will say this was too long to read, here is a summary: There are allowances made for Grotto parties, but the comfort and safety of your peers will not be sacrificed. I will answer questions clarifying these rules, but I am not interested in hearing your complaints about compromise or how I am a tyrant.

I will see you all tomorrow night. I look forward to having a fun time.

The following is delivered to Cricket at her cabin by two Ebonhide freshmen (buddy system!) after the pumpkin carving party, not long before curfew.

A quick PSA in bullet format by popular demand:
  • If anyone tries to be funny and attend the dance as the "Lake Gooseberry Killer", then I hope they enjoy my company and lots and lots of detention.

  • The dance will have nothing to do with aliens. Nothing.

  • For the time being, strict curfew rules and the buddy system are still in place. No exceptions. If this is giving you trouble, contact a prefect. If you want to complain, then here I am.

  • There will be a pumpkin carving contest in the gardens after dinner and I am going to show you all how it's done hope there is a good turnout.

  • Happy birthday, Isaiah.

  • Personal note: Looking forward to Coppertale winning this weekend. Deepest condolences to my Ebonhide friends.

[Warded to Wes]
Tell me what happened on the camping trip.

If we do it here, no one can bring up the fucking aliens. Chris thinks he is so funny. Robin is just... Robin. He flooded the suggestion box with about a dozen requests the dance have an alien theme.

For old time's sake

Do you have a date

Only curious

Fine, fine, no fun allowed. Everyone stop joking immediately. I hate humor.

If I find out anyone is staying in a cabin besides their own overnight, you'll be reported to your Head of House. No questions asked.

[Warded to Wes]
If you were not actually joking about wanting to get away from us, then I'm sorry. For now it seems like I am expected to enforce everything, or enforce nothing. Compromise is not popular. People will get bored of trying to undermine the prefects eventually, though. I hope.

It would be... easier on me if you just stayed in our cabin. I'll make it up to you. I'll ignore Chris, no fighting.

From now on, the following rules apply to all gatherings that take place at Azurcrest, Coppertale, Ebonhide and Ribbonfin (*) campgrounds:
  • No contraband, drugs, or alcohol of any kind are to be consumed, smoked, used or shared at campground parties. If you are found drinking, smoking, or otherwise consuming any mind-altering substance that would be against Gooseberry school rules, prefects will take disciplinary action. This includes but is not limited to: alcohol of all kinds, pot, cigarettes, fireworks.

  • If you are going to enjoy drugs and alcohol in the privacy of your own cabin while a party just happens to be taking place, you may not:
    • Invite anyone in to join you. The creation of “side parties” in private cabins will not be tolerated, and it’s at the discretion of the hosting house’s prefects as to whether or not things have gone from “private enjoyment” to “trying to dodge the rules.”
    • Leave your cabin while under the influence. If you are still high or drunk and come out to rejoin the party, a prefect will ask you to leave. If you do not comply, they will take disciplinary action.
    • Bring drugs or alcohol over to a friend’s cabin to enjoy privately during a party. Students may not bring drugs or alcohol to the campground of another house, period.

  • On a day-to-day basis, if you consume drugs or alcohol in the privacy of your own cabin, you may not inconvenience your roommates. If a prefect hears a complaint that smoking, drug or alcohol use (or any other detrimental or distracting behavior) is taking place in a way that makes one or more of the students living there uncomfortable, it will be investigated.

  • Senior prefects and/or the Head Girl and Boy will determine curfew at these parties. The default is midnight. Unless told otherwise, all students from other houses must be gone from the campsite hosting them by 12:00 AM.
    • Students under 16 will be escorted back to their own campground in a group by junior or senior prefects whenever a party runs past normal curfew.

  • At the Grotto, we will remain tolerant of the use of alcohol and drugs, and will not enforce a curfew. We will still be aware of what is unfolding there, and any drug we feel to be harder than pot is still subject to disciplinary action. Fighting is still forbidden. Fireworks or otherwise setting things on fire outside the firepit is still forbidden. We must still clean up after ourselves. We are guests.

  • Special rules for smoking, vaping or chewing tobacco: as tobacco is not a mind altering substance, whenever there is not a campground party taking place with guests, you may consume these products outside in public, as long as you're ~20' from windows and aren't disturbing anyone. During a party, we ask that you smoke/vape/etc. out of view of the main area the event is taking place. A prefect may ask you to relocate, and you will be allowed to return to the party after you've finished.
The Head Boy and Girl reserve the right to make adjustments to these rules in the future.

[Warded to Tess]
We need to discuss what we want for Coppertale regarding house parties. Magdalen and Cecil have given senior prefects the authority to decide what's best for our house.

So. If Ribbonfin and Ebonhide are going to disallow all drugs and alcohol at parties outside the Grotto, we should too.

We need consistency and camaraderie. The prefects need to have a unified front. It will be better if as many of us as possible support this decision. It will be unpopular, so we can't waver. We need to be seen as a strong, cooperative team. No weak links amongst the seniors. The younger prefects will soon realize it's not so bad, their friends will forgive them, and they can blame us for being hardasses. I don't know what Azurcrest will do, but the other three houses should be together on this... Especially if Azurcrest decides to enforce more rules. They will need our help, they will need to see no one is bending.

Coppertale's biggest problems are not drinking and smoking anyway. It's fighting. Going too hard. That mixes badly with alcohol. If it happens in the Grotto, we deal with it, but it should not happen where we live.

Magdalen asked me to make the announcement of the policy change when everyone has finished talking.

[Warded to Senior Prefects + Maggie and Cecil]
I will be making an announcement of the new expectations at camp parties as soon as we're done talking to one another.

My understanding so far is that Ebonhide and Ribbonfin are going to allow no use of alcohol and drugs at campsite parties. Azurcrest and Coppertale are still discussing. Are there any other nuances I should be aware of?

Um.

I-- Should I tell Mr. Hi

Did someone drop some seeds or something at the campfire party? And then come by here late at night to make something grow overnight?

[Ribbonfin Junior Girls]
Did any of you hear anything out of the ordinary outside our cabin last night? Or have a secret admirer you haven't told me about?
[identity profile] firstposition.insanejournal.com
That was a very uneventful nice night, and everyone behaved so well. You must have all gotten out of your systems earlier through a different event that I could not possibly have known about. But there's plenty of time between now and the dance to cause trouble, so I'll have my eyes open.

When does the panic over dates and costumes usually set in?

[Coppertale]
It seems as though hosting parties is the thing to do now. When it's our turn, we must do better than climbing all over the infrastructure or telling ghost stories.

I propose that after the first big snowstorm, we should have a snowball fight in our fields. The other houses won't stand a chance.

[Prefects & HB/G]
Thoughts on last night? I didn't see anyone causing trouble. One Ribbonfin was spiking the hot chocolate, and several individuals were sneaking off to the woods to smoke pot, but I find those to be acceptable transgressions.

Do you think exceptions are still a good idea when the gathering is sponsored by staff? We were walking a fine line, potentially taking advantage of Hightower's blessing.

POINTS RAISED:
  • Ravi has stated for the record that no alcohol or drugs are to be present at Ribbonfin campsite parties. Anyone caught breaking this rule will be punished accordingly. And that is not me cheekily saying to just be more cautious, it's actually not allowed. Prefects are enforcing it.
  • Maggie has agreed, and said the same for Ebonhide. She also suggests no contraband of any kind be allowed at house parties.
  • No pot at Coppertale parties.
  • Cricket suggested more regular small parties, which makes the above point(s) even more important.
  • Do we need to establish rules for individual campsites? Senior prefects and Head Girl and Boy, we need to discuss amongst our immediate peers.
