SLEDDING

As 4:30 creeps closer, students begin to bundle up and sneak out into the woods behind Azurcrest. It's a new path this time, less well-worn, which leads to a new hill. Perhaps it's not the same dramatic drop as last year, but sledding is sledding!

It takes two hours before Mr. Covington catches them, and many of the rule breakers scatter and escape punishment. Those who stay lose points and earn detention... but at least it's just a forced study hall. You all ought to be preparing for midterms anyway, and Mr. Covington's not so heartless that he'd impede your academic success.

HOW THIS WORKS:

• Anyone who reasonably wouldn’t have stopped this in its infancy is invited, regardless of what house they’re in or whether or not they're a prefect!


• This is against school rules. If your character participates, they are breaking an explicit command by staff.
• However, getting in trouble is opt-in. Comment HERE if you want your character to get in trouble. They must attend a two-hour study hall in the lodge tomorrow after dinner, and they will lose house points, which will contribute to the end of the month House Cup calculations
• There are single-person sleds and two/three-person sleds, most of which were kindly transfigured by other students.


• No alcohol is available this year unless your character brought their own!


• Characters lingering at the bottom of the hill may be randomly informed that a recently rolled sled is about to crash into them. They may dive out of the way or be knocked down like bowling pins.


• Every time you go down the hill, write “SLEDDING, INJURY Y/N” in the subject line of your ic/ooc comment.
  • I’ll then roll on the chart below. If your character wipes out and you answered “Y” to injury, I’ll then roll a second time. There’s a 5% chance of sustaining an injury. If two characters are riding in the same sled, it’ll be a 50/50 chance which one is injured.
  
  
  • Last year was extremely dangerous, but this year the chosen hill isn't as steep, nor is it quite as perilous. Injuries will be limited to bruises, bloodied noses, and maybe a sprain or two.
• You may choose to make it down the hill unscathed, in which case write “PERFECT RIDE” in the subject line.


• There are also smaller hills nearby if your character doesn't want to take the big plunge!


• However, you may not choose to get injured. That can only be obtained by facing the wipeout table.


• Due to how huge this cast is, while characters can go down as many times as they like, if things get too busy we'll only roll two or three for each character. If we start skipping your character because they've gone a bunch of times already, that's why!

1-2	Mystery event. Ooooh~
3-5	Are you dead? You think you might be dead. Guaranteed injury. A second roll will be made to determine your wipeout.
6-15	Hit a tree, and then the branches above you dump copious amounts of snow on your sled.
16-25	Dumped into the stream. You’re now all wet. :(
26-35	Crashed into bushes, and sustained scratches and bruises.
36-42	Dumped off a small ledge and into deep snow. You need help escaping.
43-45	Nearly hit a deer. The deer looked more traumatized than you were.
46-50	Flipped the sled. Teenagers go flying everywhere.
51-53	Your sled hits a small incline over a log buried under the snow, and you go flying gracefully through the air! Once you hit the ground, though, you tumble head over heels into a snowbank. Bruises sustained, and you lost one of your boots.
54-55	Swerved to avoid hitting a bunny and flipped the sled.
56-69	Very rough ride, with several near-misses with low hanging branches and trees that you swear came out of nowhere. Your life flashed before your eyes. Somehow you made it to the bottom in one piece, though.
70-73	Duck! You quickly lie back as a low hanging branch flies over your head. That was a close one!
74-75	Duck! … Ouch, not quick enough! You get a faceful of branch and a bloody nose, and you’re knocked right off your sled.
76-80	Your sled careens out of control, and you (and anyone riding with you) tumble the remaining twenty feet to the bottom of the hill. Bruises sustained.
81-84	Where did that ditch come from??? No one knows, but you’re in it now. Bruises sustained.
85-89	When you reach the bottom of the hill, you realize something is missing… or someone. The person riding in the back of the sled fell off halfway down! (Reroll if solo rider.)
90-91	Perfect ride! Your exhilaratingly fast descent down the hill… went right through where everyone else is trying to climb back up. There was chaos and screaming as your classmates dived out of the way of your careening sled.
92-94	Perfect ride! No one can stop you! You keep going! Oh my god, where are you going?! Come back!!! Your sled has so much momentum, it zips past the finish line, under some bushes, and takes you about 300 ft. into the woods with nothing getting in your way. Walking back is going to be a paaaaaaain.
92-100	Perfect ride! Your exhilaratingly fast descent down the hill set a new record!

» top of the hill: This is where you’re least likely to get hit by an out of control sledder.

» Sledding: If your character is sledding, this is where it happens! Grab a sled and one or two friends, and hold on tight!

» Bottom of the hill: Pull yourself together and climb back up! If your character lingers here, there's a chance that the mod account may inform you that the most recently rolled sled is about to crash into them!

ESSIE & JEFFY SLEDDING - INJURY Y

Two very good friends just want to go sledding together!! Jeffy takes a couple seconds to find a sled that isn't uncomfortably cramped (hey, maybe stop eating your vegetables and growing so big and strong Jefferson) but once THAT'S taken care of, he happily and definitely-not-weirdly invites Essie to join him. It seems super safe!! Jeffy's like a wall, he'll cushion her fall!!!

Micah is here with a whole tweeting lot of junior jays, although he made sure to detour through Ribbonfin first to kidnap at least one (1) cold fish to join them. "It's going to be completely safe," Micah assures Calvin, "and if it's not, you can totally fix up any broken bones, right??"

She'll find some other terrible children to take a trip down Cheating Death Lane later, but FIRST Dinah needs to test something out. She needs to see if she can do a SICK OLLIE while ZOOMING down the hill.

Dinah deserves death and it's your fault she won't get it.

Cole's happy to get to go sledding! He doesn't really know what to do when he arrives at the hill, though, and spends a few minutes wandering and watching other students go careening down the slope. Fortunately, Hazel's there and Hazel knows what to do! It doesn't take long for the two of them to end up on a sled, Hazel in front and Cole in back; she'd insisted for some reason?

Sam felt really bad that she was going against Reece’s wishes like directly, but she needed this. Sam hadn’t felt like herself since before the events of last year and she missed it. She missed herself, was sick of being scared all the time. She had been following rules, studying, getting good grades. It wasn’t her. So she told Solo she was sledding, he was coming, and that was that.

At the top of the hill, Sam looked at Solo. “You ready?”

All right, all right so maybe this IS a Spencer Sweet Project for which she very well could try to get him in trouble as opposed to attending with glee. But Jade thinks there will be plenty of time for running away and pinning blame where it’s due later. Right now, she’s somehow tugged Ari into a sled, sitting in front and risking the faceful of snow for her trouble. “We can study...velocity.” She decides with a nod, see, it’s all worthwhile.

ESSIE & LUCAS SLEDDING - INJURY Y

Lucas would not consent to literally being the sled, but he didn't have much choice when the buffest kid in the junior class insisted he stop being WEIRD and ride instead of just standing around like a doofus. So he plops down in front and covers his face with his hands.

JUNIOR JAYS SLEDDING - INJURY Y

Eventually, because all Azurcrests believe they're immortal, the juniors start strapping together a bunch of big sleds so they can go down together like the train on Splash Mountain. Except without any kind of safety measures whatsoever. Lucas, are there charms they can use to chain these sleds, or should we just trust in Jeffy's long and strong arms to hold them all together?

It's a bit of a transfiguration project to create something big enough to hold both Heathcliff and Pandora, and even then Pandora's hanging on more than anything else. Like a little barnacle.

She's screaming a little excited scream before they even get moving.

Okay. Wilde has time to do this once before he has to get back to the library, so he's going to do it right. He approaches the hill like it's a serious mission, studying the attempts of others as he waits for the perfect moment, and then gets a crazy running start before making his own.

Riley will never go down alone, not when there are cute girls to harass. She can sled alone at home, why would she do that at school?

Dressed in an outfit that is honestly inappropriate for the weather, the girl who should be studying is waiting around for someone cute to jump on her sled. Unapproved boys will absolutely be kicked off.

Ruby's looking to go down this hill as many times as she can. At this point, she'd rather serve detention that subject herself to another minute of studying. In the future, of course. If she gets detention, she's going to do something to earn it.

She transfigured her sled to be bright red and just big enough for two. Who wants to get close? ;)

YANCEY & ENNIS SLEDDING, INJURY Y

If Ennis gets in trouble again this year, he wants it to have been worth it.

"Safety first!" he tells Yancey, making sure the boy's helmet is secure before testing his own. Old, underused Quidditch helmets have been given new life in the form of fish helmets with rainbow trout coloring. They look cute as hell.

"Roadrash time," he says gruffly as he mounts the sled and puts on a pair of aviators he brought just to use for one-liners.

If anyone wants to ride with him, Ira figures they can catch him at the bottom of the hill. His first run is alone and snuck in while he’s sure there is someone else waiting to attend to injuries.
He tries to look sure that no one’s watching him run, clearly enjoying himself unironically, and jumps belly-first on to a sled.

This is very very dumb and and Tally knows she shouldn't be doing it, but what's the worst that could happen when she's got Toby to be a meatshield for her? She insists on sitting behind him after seeing a freshman get whacked in the face by a tree branch.

As the Junior Jays make their disastrous descent, Ari is left stranded at the top of the hill. She lingers by the push-off point, clearly considering going again but hanging back. Someone might be able to talk her into making another trip down the hill with them.

Griffin is lying in a sled at the top of Azurcrest hill. It's unclear if he's waiting for someone to join him or just... snow... napping...?

Fern could be down at the bottom of the hill helping the other pre-healer studies students mend the cuts and bruises this little event is causing, but she's not feeling particularly up for it today. Instead, she plans to hit the hill hard with whoever is up for a daring dive.

Look, if Essie isn't completely black and blue from this tomorrow morning, then what is she even doing with herself. And how could she possibly go sledding and NOT go with her absolute bestest fake BFF ever??? Essie is at puppy levels of excitement when she urges Ira to go down with her.

They're both mildly dinged already, so after he gets sick one more time of attending to others' injuries, Ira finds Todd for "Just one badass looking ride."

Okay, so maybe Heathcliff's first trip down the hill had almost killed Essie and Austin but they're fine and the pre-collision part had been fun and he's ready to go again! He looks around eagerly for someone to pull onto a sled with him.
