LOOKING BACK

So many things happened over the course of the last two years, as well as things we imagine happening before the game even began. Maybe you didn't get a chance to react to all of these events, or maybe your character wasn't around back then. This is a space where you can play out any scenes you wish you'd gotten to, bring back old memories, or revisit something you missed.

HOW THIS WORKS

• There will be two headers:
  • EVENTS: You bring up an old event, and anyone can respond to it and play out scenes or describe how their character reacted. For instance, you might say KISSING PLAGUE and people can revisit that one time everyone kissed their way into sickness. You could also bring up a more personal character event, like DIEGO'S REVEALED AS A CHEATER. You can make it as broad or as specific as you want, but give a little description, and link back to the IC/OOC if you can find it.
  
  
  • THREADS: This is a space for individual threads of any sort that can happen at any time in the past or future.
• Please try to approximately date the event or thread! The years go as follows:

2013: ACCIDENTAL AMORTENTIA

Last year, Archimedes Rose, Hieronymus Lee and a third friend dosed the majority of their classmates with Amortentia. They were immediately caught, and blamed everything on their third co-conspirator. However, the damage was done, and the school spent about 24 hours in absolute chaos as students fell randomly, magically in "love" with one another.

2014: MASQUERADE

During the 2013-2014 school year, Event Committee opted to skip a Valentine's Day Dance in favor of a Mardi Gras Dance at the end of February. Mr. C-B used his Anonymity Charm for the first time to allow students to wear masks to hide their identities from their fellow students for the evening. Anonymous also took advantage of the charm to join the fesitivities and dance with a few lucky students. This charm would be utilized again at the winter dance during the following school year.

2013: MUD WRESTLING AT COPPERTALE

While the seniors were stranded on Lone Wolf Island, Sylvester Stoker got a brilliant idea: Mud Wrestling. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen could all sneak off and enjoy the rainy festivities. Prefects who were caught not stopping the fights got in trouble... but it was totally worth it, right?

2013: STRANDED ON LONE WOLF ISLAND

Monthly bonding went horribly wrong when all the seniors ended up stranded on Lone Wolf Island after what should have just been a day hike. They crammed inside an old cabin, and were scared when a bear rolled down the hill and bumped into the wall. It was a true bonding experience.

2015: A SPRING DAY'S GARDENING CLUB

It's late March, which means it's beautiful outside. Blue skies. Buzzing insects.

Earlier, Wilde gave a safety demonstration (ie, "don't fucking touch these") related to some new fanged geraniums off in a corner, but now it's a free work day for Gardening Club. The Greenhouse's doors have been thrown open for air. Students mill about between personal plots and watching Spore the bowtruckle (newly invigorated by the warm weather) weaving in and out of view among rows of thriving plants and budding flowers outside in the gardens.

Wilde is working at a table indoors, attention split between two things: building a protected terrarium for growing assignment-related plants under the bed in his cabin, and a shivery little enchanted orchid that he periodically leans down to whisper at. Occasionally he breaks to scribble notes, brow furrowed.

[ooc: this is totally free!! you can throw a character at wilde or just do yr own thing in a cute gardening club setting ;-; i moved it up to events to make that a bit easier maybe~]

2014: SCHOOL TRIPS

Over Thanksgiving this past year, the overly funded Gooseberry High sent its students off to exotic new locations. The seniors got to visit beautiful Paris, the juniors took a trip to exciting Walt Disney World (oh, and the rest of Orlando probably), and the sophomores stormed Osaka, Japan. There was education, there were antics, and, surprisingly, no one was killed or arrested, but not for lack of trying, I'm sure.

2014-2015: SHINNY

During the 2014-2015 shinny season, run by Hazel Keating and Rosemary Stoker, there were four regular games, one familial game, and one championship game! Each game had different mechanics... and different team names. As usual they were pretty rough and tumble, and pre-healer students had the opportunity to learn a bit of first aid, whether they were playing or not!

It's probably because of all the water. It can be seen at least a couple times a week, floating through the widest parts of the river where the current gets lazy. It preens, it naps, it won't let anyone near it.

Well, it won't let most people near it.

2014: Mandatory Camping, Rosy & Danny

Rosy's just trying to study. Her notebook is on her lap, a highlighter in her hand, and she's sitting just close enough to the fire to get some light but not, like, accidentally burn her meticulous Pre-Healer notes.

But these fucking bugs keep getting all up in her business.

"Goddammit," Rosy hisses, slapping a mosquito trying to feast on her hand. She wrinkles her nose at the smear it leaves behind. When this happened at school she could just go to her cabin, but here all she had was a tent and - just, gross. Rosemary Stoker is not what you'd call a camping enthusiast. "Who the hell thought of camping school?"

2013: Rafael intrudes on Quidditch practice.

When Rafael spots the purple streaks over the Quidditch pitch, he detours. It's an impulsive decision, but he has time. If he remembers correctly, practice is coming to an end right about now, and Ebonhide's captain seems precise and punctual. Admirable qualities. He was made captain for a reason, after all.

It's a warm day, warm enough that the exercise was probably tiring. Rafael casually lets his waterbottle hang from his fingertips as he approaches. He does his best to walk steady and disguise the limp, which isn't overly difficult if he concentrates.

Ah, and there he is, the unattainable, unreadable Captain Leonardo Fiori. He has plenty of admirers, and Rafael's not ignorant to that fact. In fact, it's a bit exciting. He gets a little thrill when he can steal Fiori's attention from a girl who technically has a better chance than him. So Rafael stands to the side as the players land one by one, and waits until they break before he moves.

"Good morning, Captain." He smiles, and the result looks just a little bit wicked. With unshakable certainty it'll be accepted, he offers his water bottle to Leo. "Hard day of practice?"

2010: Cecil and Diego and Bees

There's been a lot to get used to around Gooseberry Alternative High School and, while most of it has been overwhelming in a good way, barely-fourteen-year-old Cecil Honeychurch is grateful for the familiarity of what's taking shape in front of him and for the help of his new roommate in setting up the beehives. Looking up from the last of the neatly-constructed units, he offers the other boy a bright smile, teasing shyly but warmly, "Are you sure you haven't done this before? These look pretty perfect to me."

He stands, pulling the hive upright as he does and then offering Diego a hand up too. He's not the giant he'll be by senior year yet, just a taller than average and slightly stocky freshman with a mop of brown hair and callused farm boy hands, but he's still up for the task.

2014 Endgame: Team Punch Ghost Waits Around

"Just gimme a damn ass second," Robin shouts as exactly no one tries to rush him through his task. They're in the Grotto. Just hanging around. Robin's got his shorts off, he's plopped himself down on the wooden box in the closet, and he's trying to blindly thread a goddamn needle from his flimsy little sewing kit. Literally no one's having a great time. "It's Ramirez's damn fault for having such a scrawny ass."

No one cares, Robin. Some people have shit to do.

2013: A Tiny Mutiny (Open to Ebonquid 2012/13?)

It's March 2013, and Ebonhide just lost again. To Coppertale, again. Their junior beater lands on the ground. It's raining, and he's dissatisfied. The captain goes off early. To punch something or kiss his boyfriend or girlfriend or get drunk or whatever, Leo doesn't know.

But he does know what he has to do. He's out of the locker rooms first. He waits at the entrance to the pitch to steal away every other member of his team...well...not his yet, but just tell him that. "We're practicing extra this week." He announces, uninvited, but undeterred. "We might not be able to use the pitch, but our offense needs to tighten up. Twice weekly isn't gonna do it anymore."

Please someone ask who died and made him captain, because the real answer is no one did.

2011: EFBs

Casper Kim isn't certain what he'd expected his first night at Gooseberry Alternative High School to be like but he's already having second thoughts about his decision to come here. After being sorted into a camp in the middle of the fucking woods and finding himself with four inexplicable roommates (two of which haven't stopped talking since they'd left the Sorting Cave), that seems entirely justified to him. But he's here for a reason and that's what he needs to keep in mind. Willing himself to tune out the verbose southern boys as they enter the cabin, the space they'll all be sharing for the next year, he moves away from them and toward one of the beds.

Their belongings have been delivered for them and he grabs his single black suitcase as he passes, hauling it up onto his empty desk with a grunt of effort. He unzips it and pauses before beginning to go through the sparse contents to push back his dark hair, currently shaggy enough to cover his ears and occasionally obscure his eyes but not long yet. In the process of growing out, it's still flipping in sporadic places and mostly just makes the boy look like he's in need of a haircut.

With the others still talking behind him, he silently tries to remember where he'd put his headphones.

Spring 2011: Kurt gets accepted into GB

Fourteen years of awkward, gangly teenager, drenched in mud and rain and known as ‘Kurt,’ bursts through the library doors and rushes to Chloe. Kurt begins to speak excitedly, but is immediately cut off by a librarian’s stern shush. Rolling his eyes, he grabs her wrist and leads her urgently into the hallway.

“Chloe,” he repeats excitedly once outside. “Chlo, I got it!”

“Got-?” she begins, but his excitement clues her in. He’d been accepted to Gooseberry. Disappointment flashes over her face before happiness can snap into its place. “That’s great!” she replies, grabbing both of his hands and squeezing them. “I know you’re going to love it.”

“Yeah! I just–” He gives a small frown and tilts his head. Had something happened? “A-are you okay?”

“I’m just happy for you!” Chloe replies. And that would have to be enough. It would be selfish to ask him to stay just for her, and she doesn't even consider giving the thought voice.

Kurt shakes his head and squeezes her hands back, because he is not convinced; if Chloe was trying to gloss it over, then there was definitely something wrong. He insists, concerned, “W-what is it?”

She's caught, of course. She could never hide anything from Kurt. “I am happy for you. I just… I’m going to miss you.” she replies, shoulders slumping.

“What…?” Despite it being the most obvious thing in the world, Kurt is somehow caught off guard. He’d thought about what Gooseberry would be like without Chloe, obviously, and it sucked, obviously, but he hadn’t actually taken any time to think about how it might feel for her back at Ilvermorny. Some part of his mind—mostly the part that lacked any confidence—expected Chloe to resume business as usual, find a new best friend, and forget about him.

He wastes no time and wraps his arms around Chloe in the biggest hug his stringy arms can manage. “Me too,” he replies quietly.

2025: Closet Full o' Varmints

Maybe Jeffy should know better. He's been teaching first grade for a couple years now, and one of the first things he learned was to never turn his back on two dozen six-year-olds. That's how you get locked in a closet with your girlfriend, Mr. Key.

"UHH, guys??" he calls out through the door, though it's, uh, PRETTY obvious they're under the spell of Super Cool Adults Lucas and Jade and aren't about to listen to him. First graders are fickle. "I'll let you ALL get something from the CANDY jar if you open the door."

His only answer is a chorus of giggles. They're probably already elbow deep in the candy jar. Jeffy turns toward Essie, a crooked smile on his face, and shrugs.

"Looks like we got ourselves in another pickle, don't it, Miss de Ville?"

CHRISTMAS 2010: Crybaby Carney Cousins

Austin isn't happy about the turns his life has suddenly taken. Kentucky is gross. Living so close to a place like Olympus is gross. Leaving Alabama and being forced to socialize with a passel of cousins he ain't never met because up until two months ago his mother hated them all is his exact idea of hell, and he doesn't know what he did in life to deserve this.

But at least it's quiet in this room, where he can watch a movie and not get harassed by grandparents and aunts wanting to know his whole life story up til now. Where he can hug a pillow and pretend he's not crying, even if there's no little sisters around to see him being such a bad, unmanly influence on them. Even if he is out of tissues and he's forced to sniffle and wipe his nose on his hand like a man.

Sorry, random cousin in here with him. Try not to look at him.
